MEDIA ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS
“It is possibly the most bizarre book in the Bible. It talks about the end of
time. It is filled with imagery of dragons and beasts. It tells of
apocalyptic war. It speaks of a lake of burning sulfur. It is the book of
Revelation. And it is what we are going to explore in this five-week
series beginning April 3rd. Above all else, this book is all about Jesus.”
We have been having a great time on Sunday
nights with our Worship Arts for Kids during the Kids
Connection time. We are planning on our older group
(grades 2-6) to help lead in worship on Sunday, May 1
so you’ll want to be sure and be here to experience
them sharing in worship.
Parents—it is extremely important for you to have
your children here each Sunday night between now
and then so that we can finalize our preparation for
worship on May 1st. Thanks for allowing your child to
participate!
PS—we still need helpers in our older WAK group
on Sunday nights. If you can help please contact the
Music and Worship office (no experience is
necessary).

ACTS 1:8
FROM THE PASTOR Mike Stachura writes, "The mark of a great church is not its seating capacity, but its sending capacity." First Baptist Church is not defined by our building, nor are we defined by our attendance statistics. Rather, the strength and significance of our church is determined by our witness and ministry to a world in need of a saving relationship with the risen Lord. Being on mission is the heartbeat of who we are as a church. Henry Blackaby wisely reminds us, “Missions is God finding those whose hearts are right with Him and placing them where they can make a difference for His kingdom.” How are you making a difference for the Kingdom of God? You are a missionary in the “world” where God has placed you. Our responsibility as church folk is to help people to take one step closer to knowing Christ. As a congregation, we have been commissioned by our Lord to, Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age. “Making disciples of all nations” is possible as we give sacrificially to the Annie Armstrong Easter Offering for North American Missions and pray for the spiritual needs of our nation. The world is living among us. As we testify of the saving grace of Christ, the message will find its way back home to family and friends in their native country. It is imperative the gospel of Christ is preached to the nations among us! On Sunday, April 3, we will celebrate the third anniversary of our church start, Blessed Hands Baptist Deaf Church. Pastor Jim Walterhouse is faithfully ministering to the deaf in our community and SWCID. Join us for our joint service of celebration at 10:50 a.m. You will have the opportunity to get to know Simon and Christa Hoopes, Southern Baptist missionaries to Kosovo on Sunday, April 10. Our church partners with the Hoopes in their ministry in this Muslim nation open to the gospel. They are building lasting relationships through an America-style bakery and the harvest of jalapenos. A noon meal will follow the morning service to give our church the opportunity to invest in their ministry as our missionaries. I long to worship with you each Sunday! Brother Mark
“For we are to God the pleasing aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and those who
are perishing.”
2 Corinthians 2:15
NAMB OFFERING—ANNIE ARMSTRONG EASTER OFFERING. 100% of the offerings we give to North American Missions go to helping establish new churches in North America and to raise up a new generation of young missionaries. The monies you give make an eternal impact.
SIMON AND CHRISTA HOOPES, PEJE, KOSOVO. You may remember that our Lis Shoshi, former Howard basketball player, is from Peje, Kosovo. Through our connection with Lis, we were able to connect with IMB personnel, Simon and Christa Hoopes. Sunday, April 10, the Hoopes will be in our morning worship service. Following the service, we will have a Texas BBQ in their honor. In that meal, there will be specific ways that you can participate in their ministry in Kosovo.
1. Meal. Donate money towards the cost of your meal. The suggested amount might be what you would pay if you went out to eat for a meal. This money will serve as a love offering for the Hoopes.
2. Desserts. A dessert table will be set up which will be a visual to represent “Sweet Beans Bakery and Coffee House”, the bakery that Christa runs in Peje, Kosovo. Desserts will be provided by our people. You may purchase a dessert to serve to your table during this fellowship meal OR you may purchase one to take home or give to someone for whom you are praying. Specific prayer needs will be available at this table. All monies received for desserts will go toward the support of Sweet Beans Bakery and Coffee House.
3. Jalapeños. Small jalapeño plants will be available for purchase. This represents the jalapeño project that Simon runs in Kosovo and Albania. Prayer needs will be available with each plant. As your plant grows, you will be reminded to pray for the Hoopes and families involved in the jalapeño project. Use the fruit from your plant as an outreach tool for a friend or a neighbor in a creative way. All monies received from the purchase of plants will go to the support of the jalapeño project.
4. Pray. God is moving in the lives of people in Peje, Kosovo. Would you pray for a mighty movement of God’s spirit in this place? Ask God how you can join him in what he is doing.

March was an awesome month for the Children’s Ministry. I set a challenge for the kids to bring 20 guests to our activities on Wednesday nights . Their motivation was that upon reaching the goal, they would each get to pie me. Well, in just seven weeks, the children managed to bring 24 friends! We averaged 50 kids every Wednesday in March! The kids had a blast and are learning to be missional right here in Big Spring.

contribution towards the balance due.
Youth Camp will be here before you know it. Dates again are July 10-15 at Glorieta, NM. Put a few dates on your calendar. Final balances for camp are due April 24th. The Pre-camp Parents and Students meeting is Sunday June 5th, late afternoon, early evening, time to be finalized soon. Please make plans to be at this critical meeting. YOUTH NEWS
Parents,
If you remember about a year ago, I purchased multiple copies of a book called "Crazy Busy" and encouraged you to take one and read it. They all got picked up and I hope it was helpful to you. I have just finished reading another great book called "12 Huge Mistakes Parents Can Avoid: Leading your Kids to Succeed in Life" This is a tremendously good book that I have read fully and completely endorse. I will be placing copies on the parent's resource table just outside the youth hall. Please take one, read it and then feel free to pass it along to a fellow parent. There is no charge of this book, I simply ask that when you finish it, you either bring it back and put it on the resource table or pass it along to another parent with the same request to return it to you or pass it along. I can promise you that this book will challenge you. The author, Tim Elmore, has written multiple books on parents and the differences in generations. He also has a great website and blog at www.growingleaders.com
Other summer plans are underway as well. If you have not heard, the younger kids 1-4 Grade are participating in a Family Camp in July. This 3 day camp is unique in that family members of all ages (including youth) participate. If you have younger siblings and parents participating in this, youth will certainly enjoy it as well. We will have several things during those few days that are specifically for youth. If you have questions about it ask Justin or Jonathan.
