ACTS 1:8 OPPORTUNITIES

FROM THE PASTOR

The events leading to the birth of Christ were not coincidental, but were put in place by God so the prophecies of old would be fulfilled in Isaiah 7:13-14, Isaiah 9:6-7, and Micah 5:2-5. From the time the census was ordered to everyone returning to their own city to be registered, and the birth of Jesus while Joseph and Mary were in Bethlehem, were all orchestrated by God. Out of Bethlehem, a small town in the City of David, came the Messiah.

This event was the beginning of something so incredible. Jesus Christ left His throne in glory and took on human form to bring reconciliation to our Father, God. He came into the world, miraculously conceived, and born as all humans are born. He was first a baby, became a toddler, grew into a child, and went through adolescence before becoming an adult. Experiencing humanity at all levels, Jesus can identify with all people at all stages of life.

This very first Christmas, God gave the greatest gift ever, His Son! In turn, His Son gave the gift of His life, which was why He came. Because of this, we can have a relationship with God as His children. Through Jesus Christ, we are Sons and Daughters of the Most High God. Let your celebration of Christmas reflect the magnificent gift of salvation provided to you through the perfect plan of God in giving His Son as our Savior.

Many opportunities are available to you this month to proclaim the truth about the birth of Jesus. Each Sunday morning our worship will focus upon the gift of God’s Son. During the evening of December 4, our Sunday School and Small Groups will gather for their Christmas parties. On December 11, our church will meet in the Family Life Center for “Mingle and Jingle.” The evening of December 18, we will spread the good news of the birth of Christ as we Christmas Carol in the community. December 24, we will worship together for the Christmas Eve Lord’s Supper Service. Then, December 25 the church worships as one body!

You will find more details concerning these events elsewhere in the Proclaimer. I am grateful for you and thankful for your partnership is the gospel as we serve the Lord together through First Baptist Church! Let us make every effort to see one another this Sunday!

Bro. Mark

“For we are to God the pleasing aroma of Christ among those

who are being saved and those who are perishing.”

2 Corinthians 2:15

OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD. Because of your faithfulness, 465 boxes have been packed for Operation Christmas Child. This means that 465 families will be touched with the Gospel of Jesus Christ! THANK YOU!

MISSION CENTER UPDATE. The number of guests we have coming to the mission center continues to increase each month. For several years we have averaged about 30 families per month, but recently we have seen the number of families increase to between 50-60 per month. Please continue to pray that God will provide our monthly needs. This min-istry IS making an impact in the lives of people as we minister to them, pray with them, and share the plan of salvation with them.

BIG SPRING. As we have visited Kosovo and church plants in Boston, we have heard a common theme from the missionaries and church planters, and that is, they have a love for their city and a COMPLETE BROKENNESS over the lost in their city. We came back wondering, “Do we have the same brokenness over the lost in Big Spring? Are we as a church committed to pray for the salvation for those in our city? Are we burdened to pray for our neighbors? Are we compelled to tell others about Jesus? Are we ALL IN?

LOTTIE MOON CHRISTMAS OFFERING—The Gospel Resounds! Each Christmas, Southern Baptist Churches across the nation, combine their offerings to be sent to missionaries serving around the world. Starting a New Year

A couple of months ago, the church voted to purchase computerized check-in stations for the children’s ministry. Everything has come in and been programmed. We will begin using those in January. I will do my best to make this new process as painless as possible, but please plan to arrive a few minutes early to each activity for a couple of weeks. I don’t anticipate any problems, but change always comes with risks. Having worked through this system before, I know you will come to appreciate the security and convenience that it offers.
