    October 2014

Dear Members and Friends of the St. PetersFamily:

Dont you love October with its cooler daysand nights, the absence of humidity and theautumn leaves? Were blessed here inSouth Carolina to enjoy each of the fourseasons, unlike some parts of the countrywhere things stay the same almost yearround.

The changing of the seasons and thepassage of time should serve to remind usthat God is our Creator and Sustainer. Inthe very first chapter of Genesis we read:And God said, Let there be lights in thefirmament of the heavens to separate theday from the night; and let them be forsigns and for days and years God gave usthe sun and the moon to mark the days andseasons and years in our lives.

Each time the seasons change we are gentlyreminded that we are not in charge. God is.God created the world and set the stars andthe sun and the moon in motion. Godcreated the order of the universe, includingthe changing of the seasons. God created usto live in and enjoy the days and theseasons of the year, the days and theseasons of our lives.

As the days grow shorter and the nightsgrow cooler this October As the leaveschange from green to those beautiful redsand oranges and yellows of autumn let usremember and give thanks to the One whogives us the seasons, to the One who createdthe Seasons, to the One who created andsustains us through all the seasons of ourlives God our Father.

In joyful partnership with you in Christsservice,

    Pastor Leon A. Rawl

    STEWARDSHIP THOUGHTS

For it will be like a man going on a journey, who called his servants and entrusted tproperty. To one he gave five talents, to another two, to another one, to each accordability. Then he went away. He who had received the five talents went at once and tand he made five talents more. So also he who had the two talents made two talentswho had received the one talent went and dug in the ground and hid his masters money.

    Matthew 25:14-30(ESV)

As I child, I remember thinking that my mom was the most talented person in the world. She coulddo anything around the house. She could garden, cook, bake, can and freeze, sew, arrange flowers, craft, butcher chickens, play the piano and organ, and she somehow always kept the house neatand clean! It seemed like she was good at just about everything she did.

Maybe you are one of those people who have many talents. Perhaps you have just a few talents, ormaybe only one. We could ponder this disparity of talents among believers and wonder at Godswisdom in determining our abilities. We could question why our Master gives so much to someand yet, so little to others; but at the end of the day, we would have no answers.

God gives as He sees fit. It is not for us to judge how and to whom God entrusts His gifts andtalents. The verses above from Matthews Gospel, tell us that it really doesnt matter how much or

to whom God gives, only that we use what we have for good. As it is written in the Gospelaccording to Luke, Everyone to whom much was given, of him much will be required, and fromhim to whom they entrusted much, they will demand the more (12:48, ESV).

If God has entrusted you with talents (and indeed He has!), then why not invest those talents inthe church and her ministry to our community and beyond? Be bold enough to share the gifts thatGod has given you be they few or many and see if God doesnt bring about an abundant return.
