Sooc, Arevalo, Iloilo City which include livelihood skills training in basic baking (cake making), seminar on customer service, marketing, and advertising last March 2, 2013 at JBLFMU-Molo. The activities were conducted simultaneously with Mrs. Melalyn Servento, faculty member of Bachelor of Science in Cruise Ship Management (BSCSM) as speaker for the livelihood training, Ms. Cheeryl Villaren, faculty member of Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (BSIT) as speaker for the seminar on advertising, Mr. Wyatt Belvis, faculty member of Bachelor of Science in Customs Administration (BSCA) as speaker on marketing, and Mrs. Sofia Celeste Sarino, faculty member of Bachelor of Science in Tourism (BST) as speaker on customer service. Moreover, Dr. Glenito L. Pador, Dean, College of Business supported the whole day outreach activity of the model student finalists from the different programs of the College of Business. To heed the request of the people in Sitio Villa Rica, Brgy. Trapiche, Oton, Iloilo and to give them information about the Human Immune Deficiency Virus (HIV) and Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS), the Community Extension Services (CES) conducted a HIV/AIDS seminar last February 19, 2013 at Sitio Villa Rica, Brgy. Trapiche, Oton, Iloilo.

The said seminar was in coordination with the Department of Health-Western Visayas.

The participants were informed about the basic facts of HIV and AIDS including its modes of transmission and ways of

prevention by Mrs. Charity Perea, RN, MM, STI Coordinator.

Furthermore, a person living with HIV shared to the participants about her experiences and challenges in life on how she was rejected by her family and friends after knowing that she has HIV and AIDS and how she accepted and became a stronger person knowing the fact that she is one of the persons living with HIV and AIDS in the country.

It was participated by the members of the Villa Rica Women’s Group, barangay officials, and youth of Brgy. Trapiche, Oton, Iloilo.

Rachel Mission, IA 1conducts drug awareness seminar to the youth, mothers and barangay officials of Brgy. Sooc, Arevalo, Iloilo City.

To help the pupils of partner school, Severo Abeto Elementary School in preparation their forthcoming National Achievement Test (NAT), the Math Club, English Club, and Science Club spearheaded a tutorial program in coordination with the Community Extension Service Department.

Lessons were conducted twice a week every Monday and Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. The tutorial started last February 4, 2013 and ended last March 6, 2013. English, Math, Science, Filipino, and Hekasi were the subjects taught during the tutorial program.

BST holds tourism awareness seminarIn connection with the

celebration of tourism day and culminating activity, Bachelor of Science in Tourism (BST) in collaboration with Community Extension Service (CES) conducted a tourism awareness seminar last February 9, 2013 at Sitio Nagpana, Brgy. Lipata,in Barotac Viejo, Iloilo.

Ms. Mona Luisa De Guzman, BST Program Head was the resource speaker and was assisted by Mrs. Angeline Bacso, BST faculty member.

The participants were given orientation on the importance of tourism and as well as to promote environmentalawareness,

considering that the said community is one of the tourist destinations in Barotac, Viejo, Iloilo.

Moreover, the BS Tourism students organized Filipino games like sack race, “pabitin”, and “hampas palayok” for the children of the community. After which, a gift-giving activity was held for aeta families.

Engr. Cicero Otizo, Mr. Noel Oquinaza, Ms. Consuelo Calitina, Mr. Wyatt Belvis, Ms. Mary Luna Dawn Cabingan, Ms. Gemma Aldama, Dr. Nonie Maravillas, Mr. Jay Tinsay, Mrs. Edda Joy Bulquiren and Ms. Elsa Parago were also involved in the activity.

Capacity Building, Leadership Training, Values Inculcation WorkshopJohn B. Lacson Foundation Maritime University-Molo students and faculty

members participated in the two-day capacity building, leadership training and values inculcation workshop initiated by the JBLFMU Community Extension Service Department last March 4-5, 2013 at Villa Igang, Puerto del Mar, Nueva Valencia, Guimaras.

Mr. Eric Divinagracia from the University of San Agustin was the resource speaker wherein he shared his knowledge and skills on informing the participants of the value of teamwork, leadership, patience, trust, confidence, unity, cooperation, and friendship in an organization, group, community, and family.

The participants are expected to put into action what they have learned in this two-day training not only being extension implementers and volunteers but also being members of their family and own community.

It’s Story Time!With the aim to give joy and enhance

the imagination, visual and auditory senses of the day care pupils in Sitio Villa Rica Day Care Center, the Community Extension Service Department in partnership with the Panay Federation of Family Welfare Committee (PFFWC) conducted an outreach activity entitled, “It’s Story Time!” last June 14, 2013.

The PFFWC member organizations who helped in facilitating the activity were the Medical City, Gaisano Guanco, St. Pauls Hospital, JBLFMU-Arevalo, JBLF-Training Center, JBLFMU-Molo, Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), Central Philippine University (CPU), and Capiz Manuel Hospital.

A storytelling with the 32 day care pupils was facilitated by the Medical City personnel. The pupils were also given school supplies such as envelope, pencil, crayons, story books, and papers sponsored by the PFFWC.

In order to give awareness about drug abuse, the JBLFMU-Molo Community Extension Services Department held a Seminar on Drug Awareness last March 2, 2013 at Brgy. Sooc, Arevalo, Iloilo City.

The said seminar was in partnership with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Regional Office 6 with Rachel Mission, Investigator Agent 1 as resource speaker.

It was participated by the youth, mothers, and barangay officials of Brgy. Sooc, Arevalo, Iloilo City wherein they were informed about essential information on drugs such as its symptoms, causes, effects, kinds, and prevention and control.

They were also given tips on what to do, where to go, and who to contact if they know somebody engaging in drug abuse.

In line with the University’s environmental thrust, Bachelor of Science in Customs Administration (BSCA) in partnership with the City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO), and Community Extension Service (CES) conducted coastal cleaning activity at Brgy. Calaparan, Molo, Iloilo City and Sto. Niño Norte, Arevalo, Iloilo City last January 23, 2013.

Technology Society (LITS) headed by Mr. Donald Pelaez, BSIT faculty member together with the Community Extension Service Department represented by Mr. Donie Alvon Mañosa, Guidance Counselor and Ms. Ma. Theresa Uy, CES Clerk turned over the five computer units last June 21, 2013 together with the 85 donated books to Severo Abeto Elementary School (SAES) in response to the request of the partner school of computer units as replacement to their non-functional computers.

The replacement of computers was recommended by the members of the LITS who conducted computer repair and service last August 2012 in the partner school as part of their community extension program. The computer units in the partner school were outdated, non-functional, and cannot be repaired because the spare parts needed are no longer available in the market.

Mrs. Carina Obispo and Mrs. Rhoda Bajada, SAES faculty members received the computer units and books.

CASS and SASA grant educational assistance to selected pupils of Severo Abeto Elementary School

With the aim of helping the pupils of the partner school to continue their education, the Customs Administration Student Society (CASS) and Student Assistance Scholarship Association (SASA) in coordination with the Community Extension Service Department granted educational assistance to selected ten (10) pupils of Severo Abeto Elementary School namely: Joerem Herrera, Dhenise David, Joelyn Franco, Cielo Mar Dela Cruz, Rizza Mae Sadsad, Mary Margarette Espinosa, Jameson Malapitan, Mary Lou Montero, Rayjie Herrera, and Roland Pico, Jr.

The pupils were provided with school uniforms, shoes, and school

supplies.In grateful appreciation of the

pupils to the sponsors and organizers of the program, each of them prepared and read a thank you card for their sponsored organization.

SASA was represented by its members and advisers namely: Ms. Mary Luna Dawn Cabingan, and M. Gemma Aldama while CASS was represented by its members and BS in Customs Administration faculty members namely: Mrs. Karenina Depamaylo, Mr. Jolly Sebastian, Mrs. Jennefer Galaraga, and Mrs. Mary Ann Tagaytayan in the turn-over ceremony last June 28, 2013 at JBLFMU-Molo.
