YOUTH REC TOURNAMENT

First and foremost we want to thank everyone who participated in our 2013 Anaheim Ducks Youth Rec Tournament! It was an awesome day with many close games in the championships. Wild Wing and the Anaheim Ducks Street Team were even on hand to sign autographs and give away many cool items.

In addition Alkali Hockey was in attendence showing off their great gear, and even supplied every participant of the tournament with an awesome Alkali shirt. Gatorade and Moore Action Photography were also in attendance!

We would also like to give a big shout out to the Sierra Roller Hockey League from Bishop, California for bringing down five teams to the tournament. All of their teams did great and their Atom (8u) team took home 1st place for their efforts!

The tournament saw many very close championship games. The Atom division went into a shootout where Bishop ultimately finished it off. In Mites (10u), the final game went back and forth to the very end where Team Perry won 7-6 on a goal with five seconds left in overtime. The Squirt

(12u) division finished with Team Beachemin winning 4-1. Additionally, Team Winnik won the Peewee (14u) A bracket and the Cones took home 1st place in the Peewee B bracket. Finally, the Midget (18u) division finished with Team Silvferberg holding off a 4-1 comeback by Team Bonino to win 5-4 on the powerplay in overtime.

Overall, this year’s Rec Tournament was a great success. Thank you to all the players and parents who participated in the event! We want to also thank the Anaheim Ducks Street team and all the vendors, (Alkali Hockey, Gatorade, Moore Action Photography) who came out to help make the day a memorable one. We hope those who are attending the Ducks game against the Oilers have a good time and we look forward to seeing everyone back next year!

December’s Drill of the Month is a great drill to use for warm-ups. The goal of this drill is to get the skaters working on hitting the net off of long shots. Also, the drill is great to get goalies working on facing shots from different angles on the rink.

The drill is as follows:

• Players are lined up in the corner with pucks.

• On the whistle three players leave from the line, one right after the other.

• They skate down the boards to the center line where they fan out to fill the three lanes on the floor.

• Player 1 shoots in stride first from the top of the circle, 2 shoots second, and 3 shoots third. Players wait for the goalie to get set before shooting. They then continue into the line at the opposite corner.

Skate without puck.

Stickhandle with puck.Direction the puck is passed.
