On October 30th, November 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, the 7th annual Give Blood Play Hockey Charity Inline Hockey Tournament will be held at The Rinks - Irvine Inline. Give Blood Play Hockey is dedicated to raising funds for CHOC Children’s Hospital and has broad support from the community, The Rinks, Jr. Ducks, and the Anaheim Ducks. The tournament has raised more than $250,000 for CHOC and collected over 1000 pints of blood. It is all because the hockey community comes together for one weekend to play the game we love and to help others.

Recently, The Rinks lost one of their own, Casey Strale, to cancer. The Rinks would like to encourage all travel hockey teams to participate. It is a lot of fun and a great cause. You can find out more information and register at www.givebloodplayhockey.org. If you and your team would like to get directly involved with raising money or just helping out, contact Dale Quayle at [email protected].

Ducks Launch Getzlaf and Perry Learn to Play Program

The Ducks announced the launch of the Anaheim Ducks Learn to Play powered by Ryan Getzlaf & Corey Perry. The program, in its third year of existence, assumes a new name after the Ducks stars committed to join instructional sessions and purchase Bauer equipment for skaters (for keep) who sign up for a hockey program within THE RINKS Development Program presented by Honda. The two players and Ducks owner Henry Samueli were on hand earlier today to kick-off this season’s program at Honda Center with fifth-grade students from Maranatha Christian Academy (Santa Ana), a school currently enrolled in the Anaheim Ducks S.C.O.R.E. Program (Scholastic Curriculum of Recreation & Education).

The Learn to Play hockey program, funded by the Anaheim Ducks Foundation, offers first-time hockey players between the ages of four and 10 the chance

to learn to play for free. Participants will receive instruction on the basics of hockey as well as learn how to skate properly during the four-week session run by THE RINKS Development Program presented by Honda. Following this free program, skaters who join a full-season program will be given free Bauer

equipment (for keep). Getzlaf and Perry will also make special appearances at Learn to Play events each year. The Learn to Play program is currently available at six RINKS locations (ice and inline). Participants with be provided with skates, shoulder and elbow pads, shin guards, a helmet, hockey pants, gloves and a jersey.

Please visit AnaheimDucks.com/learntoplay for more details. Due to high demand, some sessions are already sold out, so early registration is highly recommended.

October’s Drill of the Month is a great 2-on-2 drill designed to make players think about where they can move the puck in order to create offense. This drill is also great in introducing and working on give-and-go passes.

The drill is as follows:

• Move both nets up to the high dots.• Form four lines, two on each side

of the nets.• The coach stands on the side

boards with pucks.• The coach sends a puck out to the

center. Once this happens 1 player from each line comes out and plays the puck for a 2-on-2 situation (The two lines on one side of the center line are a team).

• At any time during the 2-on-2 a player may use anybody from any of the lines as an open pass. The player in that line then passes it back to either the first person, or his/her teamate once they are open.

• Play continues until the coach whistles it dead. Drill then resets. Skate without puck.
