Extreme weather conditions and tough working conditions, rough applications and demanding physical efforts character-ize the work in pipeline construction.

The tools used have to comply with maximum safety requirements. PFERD is a founding member of the “Organisation für Sicherheit von Schleifwerkzeugen e.V. (oSa)” (German organization for the safety of grinding tools) and develops, manufactures and tests its tools according to prescribed quality and safety requirements. PFERD industrial power brushes are quality tools for surface machining. We offer a com-prehensive program of high-quality brushes for professional machining of various materials and applications. Within the PFERD program you can fi nd the best brush for every applica-tion, for every machining problem and for every material.

Never exceed the permitted maximum RPM

In order to guarantee operating safety, the maximum permitted RPM written either on the brush, the label and in the catalogue must never be exceeded!Please observe the following before use: The tool drive speed must not exceed the maximum permissible brush speed. Please refer to our product information and product tables for further recommendations on optimum operating speeds. Here you can find the recommended speeds [RPM] for an optimum working result.

Read the safety recommendations!

Technical brushes must be used in a proper manner. For this reason, guidelines on the safe and economic use of PFERD brushes are in every packaging unit. They advise you how to increase your personal work safety.

Problem Solution

Inadequate brushing action

1. Increase RPM or use larger brush diameter at unchanged RPM.

Recommendation for use

Brush diameterWith hand-held tool drives, the brush diameter should never exceed 180 mm, regardless of the fill material.Contact pressure and work position

Abrasion is done by the filament tips (fig. 2).Exception:Brushes with SiC fill: approx. 2 - 3 mm of the filament tips grind. When using brushes on stationary machines, always operate below the brush centre line (see fig. 2).

Visible trim lengths Short filaments give a stiffer fill surface, result-ing in more aggressive brushing action. Longer filaments are more flexible, giving a softer brush performance that produces a more uniform finish, even on non-homogeneous surfaces.

Thinner filament = soft brushing action, finer surface finish

On a brush with thicker filaments, fewer fila-ment ends are in contact with the workpiece surface at the same time. This results in a more aggressive brushing action and coarser surface finish. With thinner filaments, many filament ends are in contact. The result is a softer brushing action and finer surface finish. Generally, finer filament is more flexible and ensures a longer brush life.

In addition to the Pipeline grinding wheel programme with a wheel thickness of 4.1 mm and 4.6 mm shown here we are able to supply other tools through special manufacture.

In this way optimal solutions can be found for difficult pipe-welding applications in accord-ance with DIN EN 10224, DIN EN 10217 and DIN EN 10208.
