“Tú eres mi faro. No te apagues”. Así se declaran en el faro de Giglio los protagonistas de ‘Perdona si te llamo amor’. Un emotivo pasaje que ha causado furor entre jóvenes de todo el mundo; muchos se han dejado llevar por el ‘Fenómeno Moccia’, el autor de esta historia, y han convertido al ‘Faro de la isla azul’ en un refugio de amor.
”Thou art my lighthouse.” Turn not you off”. this is the phrase of the lighthouse of Giglio island, the protagonist ‘forgive me if i call you love’. An emotional passage which has caused real furore among young people around the world; many of them are no longer carried away by the ‘phenomenon Moccia’, the author of this story, and the so-called ‘blue Island Lighthouse’ has become a coveted love haven,

IN Vive Mijas, we have also been caught by the attraction that awakens these unique vigilant sailors. Atardece en las playas de Mijas
Con la pose serena de quien
lleva prácticamente toda una
vida junto al mar, nos recibe
José Manuel López, actualmen-
te encargado de la coordinación
de los Servicios Operativos de la
Autoridad Portuaria de Málaga
y residente en el faro de Cala-
burras desde hace ya 24 años.
Ascendiendo los interminables
peldaños que conducen hasta lo
alto de la torre, no imaginamos
ni por un momento el fascinante
espectáculo que nos espera en
el exterior de la cúpula. Mien-
tras aprovechamos los últimos
minutos de sol para captar la
inmensidad del mar que se ex-
tiende ante nuestros ojos, José
Manuel nos relata los entresijos
que rodean a este imponente
cíclope mitológico.

With the serene pose of one
who has spent almost all his life
by the sea, José Manuel López
welcomes us, currently respon-
sible for the coordination of the
operational services of the port
authority of Malaga and resident
at Calaburros Lighthouse for the
past 24 years. Ascending the
endless steps leading up to the
top of the Tower, one could not
imagine for a moment the fasci-
nating spectacle that awaited us
on the outside of the tower. Whi-
le we take the last minutes of
Sun capturing the immensity of
the sea which stretches before
our eyes, José Manuel explains
the details surrounding this im-
posing mythological Cyclops.

EL SOL ESTÁ A PUNTO DE CONCLUIR SU DESCENSO TRAS
LAS MONTAÑASY, con la cálida penumbra
característica del atardecer,
el faro comienza su incesante
periplo nocturno. Sus elegantes
destellos comienzan a guiar la
trayectoria de los barcos que
se dirigen hacia el Estrecho de
Gibraltar, marcando con su breve
parpadeo la situación exacta de
la costa a las embarcaciones
que pueden encontrarse hasta,
aproximadamente, 30 millas de
distancia.
Poco a poco, con la llegada
del invierno y los atardeceres
tempranos, el faro aumentará
progresivamente sus horas de
actividad. En este punto, José
Manuel hace referencia a su
excelente óptica, fabricada en
cristal de roca y que constituye
el único elemento original de la
estructura, junto con el cupulino
de zinc, ya que la torre fue
restaurada a fi nales de los años
20 con piedra procedente de la
sierra de Mijas.
The Sun is about to conclude its descent over the
mountains and, with the warm typical
half light of the sunset, the
lighthouse begins its long night
journey. Its elegant sparkles
begin to guide the trajectory
of the boats that are directed
towards the Strait of Gibraltar,
highlighting with its brief fl icker
the exact situation of the coastal
vessels that can be found up
to approximately 30 miles
away. Gradually, with the arrival
of winter and early sunsets,
the lighthouse progressively
increases its hours of operation.
At this point, José Manuel refers
to his excellent optics, made
of rock crystal and is the only
original structure, together with
the cupula zinc, since the tower
was restored at the end of the
1920s with stone from the
sierra de Mijas.

It was also the first Spanish Arial Lighthouse; also marking the trajectory of small planes and helicopters. In fact, its light guided Châteauvillain-Casablanca line aircraft, as well as military aircraft ranging from Tablada based in Melilla and Alhucemas.

ASIMISMO, RECUER-DA EXPERIENCIAS VIVIDAS EN ESTE
ESPECTACULAR PARAJE

el año 2000 con motivo de las
obras de la autovía. También
rememora la época en la que
el faro necesitaba de atención
constante; y es que aunque su
funcionamiento se electrifi có en
1949, él era el encargado de
subir a la cámara de servicio
varias veces durante la noche
para dar cuerda al mecanismo
que hace girar la óptica. Entre
risas, el antiguo farero agradece
que éste no sea uno de los faros
más altos; de hecho, tiene una
altura de 25 metros frente a los
69 del faro de Chipiona, el más
alto de España.
HE ALSO RECALLS THE EXPERIENCES IN
THIS SPECTACULAR SPOT
...his years in the old light
keeper housing, demolished
in 2000 because of the highway
works. He also recalls the time
that the lighthouse was in need
of constant care and even of its
electric operation in 1949. He
was responsible for uploading
to camera service several times
during the night to wind the me-
chanism that spins the optics.
He laughs about the the old
lighthouse and was grateful that
this one is not one of the highest
lighthouses; in fact, its height
measures 25 metres compared
to Chipiona Lighthouse which is
69 metres and is Spain’s highest
lighthouse.

LA AUTOVÍA QUE DISCURRE POR LA BASE DEL FARO SE LLENA DE LUCES VELOCES QUE RASGAN LA OSCURIDAD. EL CIELO MUESTRA EL TONO PURPÚREO QUE ANUNCIA LA LLEGADA DE LA NOCHE

Mientras aprovechamos los bri-
llantes refl ejos de la luna sobre
el mar para concluir nuestro re-
portaje fotográfi co, oímos a José
Manuel describir con nostalgia
el cambio que experimentó su
labor en el faro en 2003, cuan-
do estos vigilantes marinos in-
corporaron un sistema por adsl
que los capacitó para funcionar
por sí solos. Ahora, se dedica a
atender las averías y a velar por
el mantenimiento básico de to-
dos los faros de la provincia. Sin
embargo, no ha querido dejar de
disfrutar del encanto del encla-
ve que, hace más de 20 años,
él mismo eligió como lugar de
residencia.
Antes de fi nalizar nuestro re-
portaje y bajar de vuelta al mun-
do de los mortales, José Manuel
nos habla del inmenso cariño
que siente hacia el faro de Cala-
burras. Todavía recuerda como si
fuera ayer las veces que observó
el mar desde la cúpula el día en
que llegó a Mijas, emocionado
ante tanta belleza. Por eso, ante
la incorporación de sistemas de
orientación en los barcos, defi en-
de la fi gura del faro como punto
de referencia diurna –de ahí el
color blanco de la piedra- y su
fi abilidad para indicar a los nave-
gantes su posición exacta. Mien-
tras disfrutamos de las luces
que, ya encendidas, bordean la
costa, nos deleitamos con los úl-
timos recuerdos de este amante
del mar, los numerosos acciden-
tes que ha presenciado desde la
torre o aquellas dos ocasiones
en que un rayo fulminó todo el
sistema eléctrico del faro.
Al contrario que el faro del li-
bro de Moccia, el de Calaburras
no es turístico. Sin embargo, su
majestuosa presencia es em-
blema indiscutible del municipio
de Mijas, testigo mudo de los
cambios que ha experimentado
la costa a lo largo de más de un
siglo y medio.

THE HIGHWAY THAT RUNS PAST THE BASE OF THE LIGHTHOUSE IS FILLED WITH FAST-MOVING LIGHTS THAT TEAR UP THE DARKNESS. THE SKY HAS A PURPLISH TONE THAT ANNOUNCES THE ARRIVAL OF THE NIGHT
The sky has a purplish tone that
announces the arrival of the
night. While we take the bright
glare of the moon on the sea to
conclude our photo gallery, we
hear Jose Manuel describe nos-
talgically, changes experienced
in his work at the lighthouse in
2003, when these marine wat-
chmen incorporated an adsl
system which meant they could
work on their own. Now, he is
dedicated to addressing faults
and to ensure the basic main-
tenance of all the lighthouses
in the province. However, he
doesn’t cease to enjoy the
charm of the enclave, which for
more than 20 years, he chose
as his place of residence. Be-
fore we get to the end of our
interview we get back to the
world of mortals, José Manuel
speaks of the immense affection
he feels towards the Calaburras
lighthouse. He still remembers
it as if it were yesterday; the ti-
mes he observed the sea from
the dome the day he arrived in
Mijas, excited by the presence
of so much beauty. That is why,
before the incorporation of gui-
dance systems for boats, the
image of the lighthouse had to
be defi ned during the daytime
- hence the white stone - for its
reliability to indicate the naviga-
tors exact position. While we en-
joy the twinkley lights that have
already lit up the coastline, we
delight in the recent memories
of this afi cionado of the sea, he
has seen numerous accidents
from the tower, on two of the oc-
casions lightening struck down
the whole of the lighthouse elec-
trical system. Unlike the Moccia
del Libro lighthouse, Calaburras
is not open to tourists. However,
her majestic presence is an un-
deniable emblem of Mijas Town,
a silent witness to the changes
experienced by the coast for
over a century and a half.

Cada miércoles a mediodía, tanto vecinos como visitantes están invitados a pasar un buen rato disfrutando del mejor fl amenco en la Plaza Virgen de la Peña de Mijas Pueblo. El grupo de baile Azabache, siempre fi el a su cita, regala al público su arte sobre el escenario en una exhibición gratuita.
Every Wednesday at midday, residents and visitors are invited to pass a pleasant afternoon enjoying the sounds of Flamenco at the Plaza Virgen de la Peña in Mijas Village. Azabache dance group, always faithful to this appointment, entertain the public on stage with thier art at this free performance.

Las paredes de la ofi cina de Turismo estarán decoradas hasta el próximo 1 de diciembre con los lienzos de Graham Denison, un pintor de origen británico que actualmente reside en Marbella. Denison nos propone una selección de obras muy marcadas por la calidez y la luminosidad del Mediterráneo en los que destaca, además, su técnica con espátula.
Lugares como Venecia o Capri aparecen en sus creaciones envueltos en colores contrastados que nos hacen respirar energía y vitalidad.
La carrera de Grahan Denison comenzó cuando apenas tenía 17 años, produciendo para “The Walt Disney Corporation” y otras empresas líderes mundiales. En los siguientes 15 años creó centenares de panorámicas que fueron vendidas en Europa, Sudáfrica y el Medio Oriente. Graham también ha creado muchas guías con estilo poniendo las bases de una calidad seguida por otros artistas.
The Tourism Offi ce walls will be decorated until 1 December with the canvases of Graham Denison, a British painter who now resides in Marbella. Denison offers a selection of works marked with the warmth and light of the Mediterranean in which he enhances his technique with a palette knife.
Places like Venice and Capri appear in his creations in contrasting colours that make us breathe with energy and vitality.
Graham Denison’s career began when he was barely 17 years old, producing artwork for “The Walt Disney Corporation” and other leading companies worldwide. And for the next 15 years he created hundreds of panoramic views which were sold in Europe, South Africa and the Middle East. Graham has also provided art for many style guides, thus setting the high standards for other artists to follow.

JESÚS SÁNCHEZRedes y pequeños trozos de papel se entrecruzan en el universo mágico de Jesús Sánchez, un fuengiroleño de Los Boliches, que expone durante el mes de octubre en Las Lagunas.
La temática que envuelve su obra se basa en la peculiaridad de lo cotidiano. Composiciones casi hiperrealistas de bodegones o rincones andaluces nos transportan hasta un mundo costumbrista que podría ser el de los años 40 en Los Boliches.
En el año 2007 recibió el premio al mejor cartel que representaría la Feria y Fiestas de Ntra. Sra. del Carmen de Los Boliches y la Romería del Rosario, en Fuengirola. Además, ese mismo año expone en solitario en la galería Ru-H del municipio fuengiroleño. Tras un año repleto de actividad artística, en 2008, logra de nuevo el primer premio del cartel de Feria y su segunda exposición en solitario. Ya en 2009, fue elegido para realizar el cartel de Semana Santa de Los Boliches.
Coincidiendo con el año mundial de la biodiversidad, el Teatro Las Lagunas acoge, desde el viernes 1 de octubre a las 19 horas, una muestra de paneles interpretativos que recoge los elementos de la fl ora y la fauna más característicos de Mijas. A través de textos explicativos e imágenes, esta muestra, promovida por el área de Medio Ambiente, pretende concienciar a los ciudadanos acerca del importante patrimonio natural con el que cuenta el municipio.
Coinciding with the world year of biodiversity, the Las Lagunas Theatre welcomes, from Friday October the 1st at 7 p.m., a sample of interpretive panels that capture the most characteristic elements of Mijas’s flora and fauna.
Through the explanatory texts and images in this exhibition, the area of environment, aims to promote and educate citizens about important natural heritage in the municipality.
Networks and small pieces of paper intersect in the magical universe of Jesús Sánchez, from Los Boliches, Fuengirola who is exhibiting this month of October in Las Lagunas.
Themes surrounding his work are based on the peculiarity of the everyday. Almost Arquitectural compositions, still life’s and Andalusian corners transport us into the local customs and manners of the 1940s in Los Boliches. In 2007 Jesus received the prize for the best poster that would represent the fair and Festival of Ntra. Sra. Carmen of Los Boliches and the Fuengirola Rosario pilgrimage. In addition, during the same year he did a solo exhibition at the Ru-H Gallery in the municipality of Fuengirola. After a year packed with artistic activity in 2008, he again achieved the fi rst prize For the Feria poster competition and second prize for his solo exhibition. In 2009, he was chosen to create the Los Boliches Holy week poster.

La India es un país mágico, que enamora a todo aquel que lo pisa. Es un lugar lleno de color, vida y alegría a pesar de las grandes desigualdades socioeconómicas. La exposición Mijas/Calcuta ha sido concebida como proyecto de gran impacto estético y emocional, basado en una serie de fotografías realizadas por diferentes amigos del IIMC - Institute Indian for Mother and Child- que han visitado La india y el programa que desarrolla el IIMC en Calcuta.
La intención no es sólo estética, sino que a través de la muestra, se pretende dar a conocer la realidad de este país, así como la importante labor que realiza Amigos del IIMC desde España, colaborando con el Instituto Indio de Madres Niños de Calcuta.
La exposición cuenta con una veintena de fotografías de La India, así como con varios estandartes de divinidades hindúes.
India is a magical country, those who encounter it fall in love with it. It is a place full of colour, life and happiness despite its socio-economic inequalities. The Mijas/Calcutta exhibition has been conceived as a project of great aesthetic and emotional impact based on a series of photographs taken by friends of the IIMC – Indian Institute for Mother and Child - that have visited India and the IIMC programme development in Calcutta.
The intention is not only aesthetic, through the works on display it is intended to make known the reality of this country, as well as the important work that the friends of IIMC Spain do, for instance working with the Indian Institute of mothers of children from Calcutta. The exhibition features twenty pictures of India, along with several banners of Hindu divinities.

Cristina Aguilar, Luisa Reyes y Ana Rico han decidido unir sus universos creativos y abrirlos al público con una única llave, la de una muestra colectiva que podremos contemplar a lo largo del mes de octubre en el Centro Cultura de La Cala.Empezaron a colaborar casi por casualidad, cuando Cristina fue llamada para exponer en el Teatro Las Lagunas y, desde entonces hasta ahora han hecho efectiva su simbiosis en tres ocasiones.En esta ocasión, la imagen del cuerpo femenino estará muy presente en la obra. Desnudos, bailarinas, damas bohemias, curvas... poblarán el centro caleño.

Partiendo de la base de las raíces andaluzas y tomando como referencia la repetición de diversos motivos
para expresar su dolor ante los problemas que aquejan a la sociedad actual, la compañía teatral ‘El Velador’,
recurre al desequilibro y el exceso para retratar la existencia de un grupo de inmigrantes a través de la obra
‘Dröppo’. La vida de estas personas, que habitan hacinados entre trastos inútiles, persiguiendo el sueño
de alcanzar una vida mejor en el mundo desarrollado, constituye la razón de ser de dicha representación.
Los personajes de esta casa-habitación son apátridas solitarios y soñolientos, de edad inverosímil, ni viejos
ni jóvenes o, a veces, demasiado ajados o demasiado tiernos. Sobrellevan sus frustraciones agarrándose
a las rutinas del día a día y al humor como fi losofía de la vida. Una puesta en escena sobre la superación,
que muestra al público la importancia de la alegría de vivir.

Based on Andalucian roots and referencing the repetition of various motives to express their pain at the

Letters that take fl ight, disappearing coins, telepathy and
many more surprises are merged in Arrikitown’s show, the fi rst
Andalusian theatre company that fosters the development of
illusionism as a stage art. The magician Miguel Puga, better
known as ‘Magomigue’, will be demonstrating the art of illusion
on stage; the perfect host in his own show, he will use all his
experience to show the public the amazing world of illusions.
Some of the audience will also have the possibility to become
the protagonists of the afternoon, participating, wand in hand, in
the many different tricks.
Miguel Puga, world title holder of ‘cartmagia’ since 2003, has
received multiple awards for his contributions in theatre, fi lm and
television. Working, in addition, as magic advisor and showman
and currently concluding a Treaty on magic.

de Arrikitown, la primera compañía teatral andaluza que fomenta el desarrollo del ilusionismo como arte

¿Has practicado alguna vez longboard?¿Conoces el gravity-bike? Si no tienes idea de a lo que nos referimos, no te preocupes. Tendrás oportunidad de averiguarlo dentro de muy poco en Mijas Pueblo. Tanto el longboard como el gravity bike pertenecen a la categoría de los llamados deportes de inercia o gravedad, unas prácticas que llamarán la atención de los mijeños el último fi n de semana del mes, con una nueva celebración del Descenso de Mijas.
En el campeonato mijeño podremos ver pruebas de longboard, gravity bike, carrilada, patines, golfos y street lugg. Ya el año pasado, la prueba contó con la participación de una treintena de deportistas, cifra que se espera repetir también en 2010. Con respecto a los premios, habrá reconocimientos para los tres primeros de cada categoría. En cuanto a los horarios, habrá una jornada dedicada a entrenamientos libres, mientras que el siguiente día por la mañana tendrán lugar los entrenamientos cronometrados y por la tarde, la competición en sí.

You will have opportunity to fi nd out within a short time in Mijas Pueblo. El departamento de Extranjeros del Ayuntamiento de Mijas organiza en el mes de octubre una jornada informativa para los ciudadanos daneses que residen en la Costa del Sol. El CIOMijas, ubicado en La Cala, servirá de escenario a este evento que ya se ha realizado con anterioridad en Mijas. Como en años anteriores, se abordarán asuntos relacionados con la administración, la justicia o la sanidad, de forma que los daneses afi ncados en esta zona puedan conocer tanto sus derechos como sus deberes. El objetivo no es otro que hacer la vida más fácil a este colectivo, informándolos de temas de interés. Los que quieran participar tienen que ponerse en contacto con el departamento de Extranjeros del Ayuntamiento de Mijas, bien a través del correo electrónico [email protected] o en el teléfono 952 58 90 10. El precio por persona es de 20 euros.
El departamento de Extranjeros ha organizado diferentes conciertos internacionales a lo largo del mes de octubre. Abrirá el calendario la orquesta fi larmónica Drammen de Noruega el 18 de octubre. Algo más adelante, el 22 de octubre, llegará el turno del coro Sankt Annae de Dinamarca. La mini estación fi nalizará el 27 de octubre con el concierto del coro infantil de la catedral de Ely, de Inglaterra.

The objective is to make life easier for this group, reporting on topics of interest. La Cala

La hermandad de Santa Teresa, en La Cala, festeja el próximo 15 de octubre la festividad de su patrona. La celebración comenzará con la tradicional procesión de la imagen por las calles del núcleo marinero. El cortejo, que partirá de la parroquia a las 21 horas, recorrerá el centro de La Cala para culminar de nuevo en la iglesia. Tras la procesión, dará comienzo la verbena sobre las 22:30 horas. El grupo de baile de la U.P. de La Cala, ‘Sur de Andalucía’ amenizará la velada con una exhibición fl amenca. Ya el sábado 16, la fi esta continuará por la noche con la elección de las reinas infantiles; una orquesta se encargará, además, de poner la nota musical a los dos días de verbena. Por último, el domingo 17, a las 11 horas, la parroquia de Santa Teresa acogerá una misa rociera, tras la cuál se iniciará un recorrido hasta el campo de Los Olivos, donde los vecinos disfrutarán de una entrañable jornada de romería a partir de las 12:30 horas.
The brotherhood of St Theresa in La Cala, celebrates on the 15th of October the festivity of its Patron Saint. Celebrations will begin with the traditional procession with the image through the streets and the sailors nucleus. The procession, which will leave the parish at 9 p.m., will tour the centre of La Cala and culminate in the Church. After the procession, the verbena will begin around 10.30pm. The dance groups from the U.P. of La Cala and ‘Sur de Andalucia’ will enliven the evening with a Flamenco show. On Saturday the 16th, the party will continue through the night with the election of the children’s Queens; an orchestra will play for the two days and fi nally on Sunday the 17th at 11a.m., the parish of Santa Teresa will host a rociera mass, after which everyone will make their way to the Los Olivos campo, where residents will enjoy a lovely pilgrimage day from 12: 30pm.
