Situated in a nature reserve, surrounded by mountains and the mediterranean, La Cala Resort golf courses are sculpted in the middle of an impressive landscape and framed by a diverse tourist complex which is perfectly rounded off with a fi ve star hotel, luxurious spa and an extensive range of properties for rent or for sale. Considered as the largest golf complex of Spain, the courses have been designed by the renowned Cabell B. Robinson, presenting diverse challenges to the golfer.

The golfers visit begins at the club house, designed in the style of a traditional Andalucian cortijo, where you can take an aperitif on the terrace which has magnifi cent views of campo Asia, or if you prefer, you can enjoy an exquisite lunch in the ‘Los Olivos’ lounge. In this area, there are also changing facilities, with spacious showers and a sauna. Once ready to start the game, the player can pass by the La Cala Resort proshop, (one of the biggest on the coast), where he/she can register their inscription and can also acquire the necessary equipment.

El diseño de los campos de La Cala Resort respeta al máximo la orografía natural del terreno. El campo América se caracteriza por su topografía empinada; las amplias calles bien mantenidas y las zonas de matorral requieren de golpes largos. Además, casi tres cuartos de los greens están ligeramente elevados. En el campo Asia, al igual que en el anterior, es muy importante una selección cuidadosa de los palos. La mayoría de los golpes de salida son cuesta abajo o planos. El tercer campo, Europa, aprovecha el curso del río Ojén para crear obstáculos de agua. Las calles y los greens son más amplios, por lo que resulta un campo fácil para el golfi sta medio.

El complejo cuenta con la única Academia de David Leadbetter de España, que ofrece clases individuales y en grupo para principiantes y jugadores experimentados, haciendo uso de un campo de práctica de hierba y un gran putting green. Las instalaciones se completan con un campo de seis hoyos ideal para practicar el juego corto.

The design of the La Cala Resort golf courses respects to the utmost the natural oreography of the area. Campo América is characterised by its steep topography; the well supported paths are well maintained as well as the thickets where long drives are required. Also, almost three quarters of the greens are slightly elevated. On campo Asia, as in the afore-mentioned, it is very important to take care with the selection of golf clubs. The majorty of the tee shots are downhill or fl at. The third course, Europa, takes adavantage of the Ojén river to create water hazards. The paths and the greens are larger, making it an easier course for the average golfer.

The complex has the only David Leadbetter Academy in Spain, which offers beginners individual and group classes as well as classes for experienced players, making use of a practise grass course and a large putting green. The facilities are completed by a six hole course which is ideal for the player to practise their short game.

A la riqueza paisajística de Mijas Golf se une la comodidad de una amplia terraza que alberga el restaurante del complejo, donde se encuentra también la casa club. En la tienda del recinto, es posible encontrar todo tipo de equipamientos y accesorios para la práctica del golf, además de una amplia gama de ropa deportiva. Durante las últimas décadas, Mijas Golf Club se ha convertido en uno de los complejos de golf más populares de Europa, reconocido por el magnífi co estado de sus campos, así como por el excelente servicio que brinda a sus clientes. Los Lagos fue el primer campo del complejo, construido en 1976; se distingue por sus amplias calles bordeadas por numerosos lagos y bunkers, con árboles situados para proteger sus amplios ‘greenes’. Los Olivos, construido en 1983, presenta ‘greenes’ más pequeños, ondulados y con caídas. La cantidad de árboles situados en sus calles exigen del jugador un ‘drive’ más preciso y recto.

The rich landscape of Mijas Golf is joined by the comfort of a spacious terrace and the club house and restaurant. At the proshop, situated on the site you can fi nd all the necessary equipment and accessories for golf, plus a wide range of sportswear. The practise course, ‘putting-green’ and spacious changing rooms complete this attractive complex.

During the past few decades, Mijas Golf Club has turned into one of the most popular golf complexes in Europe, known for its magnifi cent course conditions, as well as its excellent client service. Los Lagos course on the complex, constructed in 1976; is distinguished by its spacious paths bordered by several lakes and bunkers, with trees perfectly placed to protect the wide ‘greens’. Los Olivos, constructed in 1983, presents smaller ‘greens’, curved and with slopes. The quantity of the trees situated by the paths requires the golfer to play a more precise and straight ‘drive’.

El campo se encuentra en un entorno privilegiado de la Costa del Sol, a 700 metros de la playa y rodeado por un inmenso bosque de pino canario y especies autóctonas. Cuenta con una gran variedad de hoyos que conforman un recorrido exigente que requiere habilidad y precisión. Además, es el único campo de la costa con 6 pares 3, 6 pares 4 y 6 pares 5. El complejo dispone de un campo de prácticas con un ‘green’ de 1.000 metros cuadrados, así como una academia de golf dirigida por profesionales de la PGA altamente cualifi cados.

El club de golf, que cuenta con mayoría de clientes británicos, comenzó siendo de uso comercial. En 2008 incorporó el abono, una alternativa a través de la cual por una cuota fi ja al año, los afi cionados pueden practicar cada vez que lo deseen y disfrutar de ciertas ventajas, como descuentos e invitaciones. Sus instalaciones acogen competiciones abiertas y torneos esponsorizados por diversas marcas e instituciones, con un personal que cuida al máximo la fi delización y la atención personalizada al cliente. The course is situated in a privileged setting on the Costa del Sol, some 700 metres from the beach and surrounded by a vast forest of Canary Pines and indigenous species. It has a wide variety of holes that shape the game requiring the golfer to play with skill and precision. It is also the only course on the coast with 6 par 3’s, 6 par 4’s and 6 par 5’s.The complex has a practise fi eld with a 1000 square metre ‘green’, and a golf academy led by highly qualifi ed PGA professionals.

The golf club, which has a majority of British clients, began as commercial use. In 2008, they incorporated a subscription, an alternative, which for a fi xed annual sum, golfers could practise whenever they wanted to and enjoy certain advantages such as discounts and invitations. The Club receives open competitions and tournaments sponsored by various known brands and institutions and have a personnel team who care about loyalty and always give their personalised attention to clients. The complex also hosts rounds of golf for ‘societies’(groups of English players), as well as clubs that don’t have ‘game’ facilities.

Los alumnos de fl oristería de la Escuela Taller Minerva de CIOMijas exponen 25 cuadros elaborados con materiales vegetales secos. Los trabajos muestran obras de grandes pintores hasta el 23 de noviembre.

Florist’s students from the Vocational Training Centre Minerva at CIOMijas are showing 25 works made with dry vegetable materials. These works resemble paintings from great masters, until 23rd November.

LÁMPARAS DE ACETILENO

Piezas de alto valor histórico precursoras de la electricidad son las que encontramos en esta muestra. El acetileno, un gas altamente infl amable descubierto por Edmund Davy en 1836, se utilizaba a mediados del siglo XIX para iluminar hogares, fábricas y calles. La economía, robustez, rendimiento lumínico y duración del combustible hicieron de estas lámparas el medio óptimo de iluminación durante décadas, hasta que fueron reemplazadas por los sistemas eléctricos.

In this exhibition you will fi nd this lamp which has great historical value, forerunner of the electric ones. Acetylene, a highly infl ammable gas discovered by Edmund Davy in 1836, was used around the middle of the 19th Century to light homes, factories and streets. These lamps provided the best light for decades, thanks to their toughness and their low consumption, being very economical and useful. They were replaced by electric lamps.

EXPOSICIÓN/EXHIBITION ‘PICASSO Y SUS AMIGOS EN MIJAS’

El genio de la pintura cubista española del siglo XX ha elegido una de las principales instituciones exponentes del arte en el municipio para reencontrarse con sus amigos y seguidores. La cita será el próximo viernes 6 en la sala de exposiciones del Teatro Las Lagunas; allí, el malagueño Pablo Ruíz Picasso entrará en contacto con sus compañeros a través de sus obras gracias a la muestra ‘Picasso y sus amigos en Mijas’. La exposición reúne un total de 25 trabajos del famoso creador, junto con lienzos de diferentes artistas que compartieron amistad con él, como Georges Braque o Dalí.

Tras la inauguración, el guitarrista fl amenco Daniel Casares deleitará a todos los asistentes con un breve concierto inspirado en Picasso. Una exhibición en la que la sensibilidad del músico se unirá a la obra del genial pintor para crear esa magia que sólo se manifi esta cuando las diferentes artes se funden en un luminoso momento único.


Los curiosos que asistan a este encuentro con el arte cubista podrán disfrutar, además de la exposición, de dos conferencias sobre el artista malagueño. La primera charla, bajo el título ‘El genio del siglo XX’, correrá a cargo de Pilar Rodríguez, jefa del departamento de Documentación de la Fundación Picasso. Francisco Javier Fructuoso, comisario de la exposición, será el encargado de dirigir la segunda intervención, titulada ‘Picasso y sus amigos en Mijas’.

Spectators attending this meeting of cubist art, will also be able to enjoy two lectures on the Malaga artist. The fi rst lecture, entitled ‘The Genius of the XX Century’, will be led by Pilar Rodríguez, head of the Documentation Department of the Picasso Foundation. Francisco Javier Fructuoso, commissioner of the exhibition, will be responsible for the second lecture, entitled ‘Picasso and his friends in Mijas’.

The genious from the Spanish cubist painting art of the XX Century has chosen one of the main cultural buildings in the municipality to meet again with his old friends and followers. This appointment will be next Friday, 6th November at the exhibition hall of the Las Lagunas Theatre. The malagueñan artist Pablo Ruiz Picasso will be with his colleagues again through their work thanks to the exhibition ‘Picasso and Friends in Mijas’. The exhibition shows 25 works by the famous artist and works by different artists that shared his friendship, such as Georges Braque or Dalí.After the inauguration of the exhibition, fl amenco guitarist Daniel Casares will delight those in attendance with a concert inspired by Picasso. An event in which the artistic feeling of the musician will blend with the work of the great painter to create a unique moment in which different arts combine to offer a unique moment.

José Valle Reina, más conocido como ‘El Nono’, fue solicitado desde muy joven para acompañar el cante en festivales y concursos. Llegó también a formar parte de un grupo de música pop. Sin embargo, fue en la guitarra fl amenca donde demostró toda su sabiduría y buen hacer.

En este concierto, José García ‘El Petro’, Ramón Cortés y Antonio Rojas ‘El Nono’, acompañados a la guitarra por Diego Morilla, Paco Aragón y Matt Mcgurk, rinden homenaje al artista sevillano en el quinto aniversario de su muerte. La percusión correrá a cargo de Francisco Javier Comino.

From an early age José Valle Reina, best known as ‘El Nono’, was asked to work with fl amenco singers in festivals and competitions. He was also part of a pop group. However, he really showed all his potential, wisdom and art with the fl amenco guitar.

La obra narra un encuentro entre dos antiguos amantes; momentos de enfado, alegría, esperanza, ensoñación, ternura y deseo. A través de la combinación de técnicas de contact, música en directo, acrobacia, equilibrios, manipulación de objetos y antipodismo, esta representación, ganadora de dos premios ‘Málaga crea’, habla de la soledad, la capacidad para ilusionarse y navegar sobre las huellas del amor. Through the combination of contact techniques, live music, acrobatics, the manipulation of objects and balance acrobatics, this play, which won the ‘Málaga Crea’ award, talks about loneliness, our capacity to hope and sail through the footsteps of love. All these emotions go through an elderly man on his birthday, excited by the memories of his soulmate.

Arqueólogo y profesor, Manuel Perdiguero muestra en esta exposición una colección de ánforas, hidrias, lekythos, copas, stamnos y cráteras modeladas por él mismo a imagen y se-mejanza de los restos originales hallados en sus excavaciones. Alikindoi Producciones, young company directed by Remedios Cervantes, brings to the Las Lagunas stage ‘Confi dencias muy íntimas’ (very intimate confi dences). This play shows the power of words to conquer the search for happiness. A comedy full of mistakes, intrigues and subtleness, with unexpected situations that show that stripping one’s soul is funnier and healthier than hiding it.


Con un estilo marcadamente experimental, la música de Rosbuska es una mezcla de la psicodelia y el blues de los sesenta, la contundencia del punk de los setenta y la urgencia inquietante del rock de los noventa, todo ello combinado con una lírica de corte existencialista. En 2008, el grupo grabó su primer L.P., ‘TV is all you need’.

El Teatro Las Lagunas se viste de gala con motivo de la celebración del Día Internacional de los Derechos del Niño. Para la ocasión, las instalaciones del espacio escénico acogerán una exposición de ilustradores y álbumes ilustrados. La jornada continuará con la proyección de ‘Tengo derechos’, una colección de cortos animados elaborados por el Instituto Iberoamericano del Niño. Los asistentes también podrán disfrutar de una narración oral de cuentos e historias a cargo de la uruguaya Jackeline de Barros y del cubano Aldo Méndez. El fi n de fi esta será un espectáculo de magia dirigido por Alberto de Figueiredo, de MagiComedy.

The Las Lagunas Theatre holds the celebration of the International Children’s Rights Day. For this event the Theatre shows an exhibition of illustrations and illustrated books. The day will continue with the screening of ‘I have rights’, a collection of animated short fi lms produced by the Latin American Children Institute. Those attending the event will be able to enjoy a storyteller by artists Jackeline de Barros from Uruguay and Aldo Méndez from Cuba. The party will fi nish with a big magic show directed by Alberto de Figueiredo, from MagiComedy.

Roshbuska music is a mixture of experiments with psychedelic and blues from the 60’s, the bluntness of the 70’s punk and the restless and urgent rock from the 90’s, all combined with existentialist lyrical poetry. In 2008 the group recorded their fi rst LP, ‘TV is all you need’.

Julio Rabadán, afi cionado a la pintura desde temprana edad y licenciado en Historia del Arte por la Universidad de Sevilla, muestra en la ofi cina de Turismo una colección de once cuadros inspirados en la cultura y las costumbres andaluzas. En ellos, se pueden apreciar fi guras y motivos propios de nuestra tierra, como el toreo o el baile fl amenco. Julio compagina su afi ción a la pintura con su trabajo como maestro de Secundaria; además, es compositor de música para cine y televisión.

Julio Rabadán, painting enthusiast from a very early age and graduate in Art History at the University of Sevilla, is offering an exhibition of eleven of his paintings inspired in the andalusian culture and customs. We can see fi gures and motifs that are typical of our region, such as bullfi ghting and fl amenco dancing. Julio combines his love for painting with his job as a secondary school teacher; he also composes music for cinema and television.

Las Lagunas opens the popular mile circuit that, each year, brings hundreds of athletes and enthusiasts to the municipality from all over the province. From pre-school up to veterans, runners of all ages and categories can demonstrate their abilities on this urban run.

Las Lagunas inaugura el circuito de millas populares que, cada año, congrega en el municipio a centenares de atletas y afi cionados procedentes de diversos puntos de la provincia. Desde prebenjamines hasta veteranos, corredores de todas de las edades y categorías pueden demostrar su destreza en este recorrido urbano.

El evento deportivo, organizado por el Patronato de Deportes, el Club Atletismo Parque Acuático Mijas y los alumnos del TAFAD del IES Sierra Mijas, continuará el próximo mes de marzo con la Milla de La Cala. El circuito concluye el 1 de mayo con la celebración de la tercera prueba, la XXIV Milla de Mijas.

The sports event, organised by the Foundation for Sports, The Mijas Water Park Athletics Club and the TAFAD students of IES Sierra Mijas, will continue next March with the La Cala Mile. The circuit will conclude on the 1st of May with the celebration of the third test, the XXIV Mijas Mile.

Three restaurants have the responsibility of delighting guests attending the conference with menus that combine the basic principles of the Mediterranean diet with a touch of the avant-garde.

The Foreigners Department, indisputable host’s of the event, wanted, this year to pay tribute to female chefs. Vive Mijas offers a preview of the menu and invites you to meet all the participants.

Además, este año, la XIX edición de la Semana Gastronómica mijeña nos sorprende con una apuesta totalmente en femenino. Y es que los tres restaurantes que pasarán por CIOMijas a partir del 25 de noviembre están capitaneados en sus fugones por cocineras. A ellas les corresponderá sublimar los paladares más selectos, así como dejar claro que el territorio de la alta cocina no es un campo sólo para hombres.

Como en otras ocasiones, la comida estará acompañada por una gran selección de vinos. En este apartado, el departamento de Extranjeros, el organizador del evento, continúa apostando por los servicios de la distribuidora Disnagar, la encargada de proporcionar los caldos que acompañan a cada uno de los platos desde hace ya tiempo.

Es una iniciativa del hotel Hacienda Puerta del Sol de Mijas que tendrá lugar del 30 de octubre al 2 de noviembre. ¿Sabías que la gastronomía marroquí se puede llegar a considerar como una de las más diversas del mundo? La cocina tradicional de Marruecos, a excepción de los platos más típicos, hoy en día mezcla gastronomías procedentes de los bereberes, moriscos, de Oriente Medio, del Mediterráneo y de África. En general, es una comida de fácil elaboración, como suele ocurrir con las cocinas populares. Tiene mucho en común con otras cocinas del Magreb pero posee una gran personalidad, ya que es la única que no ha recibido infl uencias de la cocina turca (debido a que el imperio otomano no llegó con sus dominios al territorio del actual Marruecos). En las II Jornadas Gastronómicas de Cocina Marroquí encontrarás un buffet con más de 40 platos diferentes, por 30 euros bebida incluida.

La cocina marroquí es, sobre todo, familiar. Hay un proverbio típico de Marruecos que dice ‘Mâ kainsh el-kalâm fi n kaien tag ham’: donde hay comida, no se habla. Sentarse a la mesa a comer, para los marroquíes, es un momento cargado de costumbres, casi un ritual. En zonas del interior de Marruecos, al Norte... es típico sentarse en el suelo para comer y, muchos, acompañan la comida con sus tradicionales rezos. La marroquí es una gastronomía casera, en la que participan fundamentalmente las mujeres y las recetas se pasan de madres a hijas por tradición verbal.

Moroccan Cuisine is, for everyone, familiar. There is a typical Moroccan proverb ‘Ma kainsh el-kalam fi n kaien tag ham’: when one is eating, one does not speak. For Moroccans, sitting down to eat is a time full of customs, almost a ritual. In the inland areas, especially the North ... it is typical to sit on the fl oor and eat and many accompany the meal with traditional prayers. Moroccan gastronomy is mainly home-made, primarily involving women and recipes are handed down from mothers to daughters by word of mouth.

Vive Mijas has a proposal that you shouldn’t try to escape from: the II Gastronomic Days of Moroccan Cuisine. It is an initiative of the Hacienda Puerta del Sol Hotel in Mijas and takes place from the 30th of October to the 2nd of November. Did you know that Moroccan cuisine has come to be considered as one of the most diverse in the world? Morocco’s traditional cuisine, with the exception of the most popular plates, is a gastronomic mix of the Berbers, Moorish, Eastern Mediterranean, the Mediterranean and Africa. In general, the meals are easy to make, which is normal for popular cuisine. It has much in common with other cuisine of the Maghreb but it possesses a different style, since it is the only one that has not been infl uenced by the Turkish kitchen (because the Ottoman Empire didn’t reach the dominions of the territory of modern-day Morocco). American traditions are here to stay. Santa Claus was fi rst, now, Halloween. Our traditional All Saints Day is gradually looking more like an American fi lm full of small monsters, witches and vampires running around the streets asking for sweets going from door to door. In Mijas, it is common to see establishments and private homes decorated with pumpkins and candles. However, along with fancy dress, decoration and parties, old traditions are still kept in the municipality, such as the typical gastronomy of this celebration. Las tradiciones americanas vienen pisando fuerte. Primero fue Santa Claus y, ahora, Halloween. Nuestro tradicional Día de Todos los Santos cada vez se asemeja más a las películas estadounidenses donde pequeños monstruos, brujas o vampiros corren por las calles pidiendo dulces de casa en casa. En Mijas, ya no sorprende ver diversos locales o incluso viviendas engalanadas con calabazas o velas. Sin embargo junto a los disfraces, la decoración y las fi estas, todavía se mantienen en el municipio las antiguas tradiciones, como la gastronomía propia de estas fechas. Huesos de santo, yemas de Santa Teresa o buñuelos son algunos de los placeres culinarios que toman especial protagonismo durante esta festividad. Junto a los caramelos y golosinas que endulzan las fi estas infantiles, obradores y confi terías muestran en sus vitrinas toda una selección de dulces típicos. En Mijas, la panadería de María Quero, ubicada en calle Málaga, elabora de cara a este día todo un surtido de especialidades gastronómicas muy populares en ciertos puntos del pueblo, como el barrio Santana.

Along with sweets and candy, pastry shops are offering a wide selection of typical sweets. In Mijas, María Quero’s bakery, in calle Málaga, prepare assorted typical sweets very popular in some areas of the village, such as Barrio Santana.

Halloween es una festividad cargada de misterio; los juegos de luces y sombras y la magia que desprenden las velas encendidas en honor de las almas difuntas tienden a acentuar el carácter ritual de esta celebración. Durante estas fechas, establecimientos de restauración, locales públicos e incluso casas particulares se llenan de velas y cirios decorativos de diferentes formas y tamaños que adornan e inundan de encanto cada rincón. Si quieres que tu noche de Halloween brille con luz propia, en La Cerería, en la carretera de Fuengirola-Coín, y Novo, en Mijas Pueblo, encontrarás una amplia gama de velas de múltiples colores y simpáticas formas. During these festivities, restaurants, bars and private homes are full of candles of varying forms and sizes, decorating and fi lling each corner with magic. If you want your Halloween night to stand out at La Cerería, in the Fuengirola-Coín road, and Novo, in Mijas Pueblo, you will also fi nd decorative motifs to create your own horror scene !

Un buen disfraz y una cuidada caracterización a través del maquillaje son parte indispensable en cualquier fi esta de Halloween. Brujas, muertos vivientes y esqueletos campan a sus anchas mezclándose en un baile de máscaras imposible con rostros manchados de sangre, dientes de hombre lobo o repugnantes cicatrices de zombi. Este año, si quieres lucir tu disfraz, no dudes en asistir a la fi esta que se organiza en Aroma Café, en Mijas Pueblo. Y si deseas que tu atuendo sea el más ‘cool’ de la noche, date una vuelta por Todo Todo, en Las Lagunas, donde puedes elegir entre decenas de modelos y curiosos complementos.

La Asociación Nueva Laguna también se suma a esta fi esta ‘terrorífi ca’ . El sábado 31 de octubre, a partir de las 17.30 horas, se organizará un taller de pintacaras para los más pequeños. Los participantes, que podrán venir disfrazados, preferentemente, recibirán un pequeño obsequio de recuerdo. ¡No faltes a la cita!

A good fancy dress and good makeup characterisation are basics for any Halloween party. Witches, the living dead and skeletons move around freely mixing in a masked ball, faces fi lled with blood, werewolf’s teeth and frightful zombie’s scars. This year, if you want to show off with your fancy dress, don’t miss a special party being organised at the Aroma Café in Mijas Pueblo. And if you want your outfi t to be the coolest of the party, go to Todo Todo in Las Lagunas, where you will fi nd a wide range of designs and odd accessories.

The Association New Laguna are also taking part in this ‘terrifying’ festival. On Saturday the 31st of October from 5.30pm, there will be a face painting workshop for youngsters. Participants who will preferably, be in disguise, will receive a small memento. Don’t miss this event!
