Jugar al golf en un ambiente tranquilo mientras se disfruta de espectaculares vistas del mar y la sierra de Mijas es lo que ofrece el recorrido de Calanova Golf Club. El campo, inaugurado en 2006, cuenta con un diseño exquisito, con calles muy variadas y varios tees por hoyo, creando favorables condiciones para jugadores de diversos handicaps. Su buena relación calidad-precio, con económicas ofertas para grupos y clubes de golf, completan el atractivo de este campo, que dispone además de un ecológico sistema de riego con agua 100% reciclada procedente de la depuradora de La Noria.

El proyecto más inmediato de Calanova Golf es la construcción de su casa club defi nitiva; la actual, de 300 metros cuadrados, alberga la tienda, duchas y vestuarios, la zona de recepción, así como el área de restauración. Además, el club cuenta con una escuela de golf a cargo de Monty Bordelon, profesional de la PGA americana; en estas sesiones, los principiantes tienen la oportunidad de mejorar su ‘swing’ en el campo de prácticas o el putting-green situados junto al campo.

To play golf in a peaceful ambience while one enjoys spectacular views of the sea and the Sierra de Mijas is what is on offer when you visit Calanova Golf Club. The golf course, inaugurated in 2006, is exquisitely designed, with varied paths and several tee shots, creating favourable conditions for players of differing handicaps. It is good value for money, with excellent special offers for groups and golf clubs and it also has an ecological watering system with 100% recycled water from the treatment plant of La Noria.

The most immediate project of Calanova Golf is the construction of the new clubhouse. The current 300sqm temporary club house covers all the basic services: restaurant with a pleasant terrace overlooking the sea and the mountans of Mijas, proshop, changing rooms, caddymaster and offi ces. In addition, the club has a Monty Bordelon Golf School (Americal PGA professional); during these sessions beginners have a chance to improve their swing on the driving range or putting green located next to the course.

LA NORIA GOLF & RESORT

Con un recorrido compuesto por 9 hoyos defendidos por dos magnífi cos lagos y un arroyo que atraviesa el campo de noreste a sureste, La Noria Golf, inagurado en 2003, ofrece al jugador una emocionante partida donde se mezclan hoyos técnicos con otros donde se requiere más pegada. El campo, completamente llano, presenta su mayor difi cultad en los golpes a ‘green’, un verdadero reto para los jugadores; sin embargo, las instalaciones están pensadas para todo tipo de golfi stas, desde los principiantes hasta los más expertos.

La Noria dispone de una excelente academia de golf con profesionales nacionales y extranjeros y un método de enseñanza propio, centrado en la mejora de las habilidades de los jugadores en juego corto. Para ello, las instalaciones cuentan con campo de prácticas equipado con putting green, taller y plataformas de prácticas. Tras el paso por los vestuarios, la casa club, con su restaurante, constituye la mejor opción para fi nalizar la jornada golfística con un tentempié frente a la maravillosa puesta de sol sobre las playas caleñas.

La noria Golf opened in 2003, offering the player an exciting game where they mix technical holes with those that pack more punch. The course, completely fl at, presents diffi culties for drives to the ‘green’, it’s a real challenge for players but the facilities are designed for all types of golfers, from beginners to experts.

La Noria has an excellent golf academy with national and foreign professionals and a teaching method focusing on improving the players skills on their short game. Mirafl ores Golf


En una extensa urbanización entre Mijas y Marbella, en pleno corazón de la Costa del Sol, se encuentra el campo del Club de Golf Mirafl ores. Se asienta sobre un terreno accidentado desde el que se perciben vistas inolvidables del mar o la montaña. Abierto desde 1990 y diseñado por Falco Nardi, el terreno de juego es agradable y está lleno de retos interesantes para el jugador. El campo, recientemente reformado, cuenta con dos lagos, a nuestro paso nos encontramos también con aves de especies raras, pero comunes en esta zona. Cada uno de sus 18 hoyos ofrece un desafío diferente. Entre los hoyos más difíciles, el 12, un par 4 de 570 metros con un lago en el centro de la calle que difi culta el segundo golpe. Mirafl ores Golf , es más que un simple campo de golf.

Durante las últimas décadas, Mijas Golf Club se ha convertido en uno de los complejos de golf más populares de Europa, reconocido por el magnífi co estado de sus campos, así como por el excelente servicio que brinda a sus clientes. Los Lagos fue el primer campo del complejo, construido en 1976; se distingue por sus amplias calles bordeadas por numerosos lagos y bunkers, con árboles situados para proteger sus amplios ‘greenes’. Los Olivos, contruido en 1983, presenta ‘greenes’ más pequeños, ondulados y con caídas. La cantidad de árboles situados en sus calles exigen del jugador un ‘drive’ más preciso y recto.

A la riqueza paisajística de Mijas Golf se une la comodidad de una amplia terraza que alberga el restaurante del complejo, donde se encuentra también la casa club. En la tienda del recinto, es posible encontrar todo tipo de equipamientos y accesorios para la práctica del golf, además de una amplia gama de ropa deportiva. El campo de prácticas, la zona de ‘putting-green’ y los amplios vestuarios completan el atractivo del complejo.

En el corazón de la urbanización Sitio de Calahonda nos encontramos con el complejo ‘La Siesta Golf’, un pequeño campo de tan solo 9 hoyos diseñado en 1990 por Enrique Canales Busquet. A pesar de ser un campo corto, la distancia desde los tees a los greenes varía considerablemente y se tiene la impresión de estar jugando en un terreno más amplio. El recorrido no presenta demasiadas difi cultades, si bien es bastante variado, sobre todo, por la distancia que existe de tee a green entre unos hoyos y otros.

El hoyo 7 se puede atacar con madera para tratar de alcanzar green. Desde el bar-restaurante del club, se ofrece una magnífi ca vista al Mar Mediterráneo y de los hoyos 1 y 9. El par del campo está fi jado en 54.

La Navidad vista desde los ojos de los más pequeños de la casa. Es lo que encontraremos en la exposición de tarjetas navideñas que se abrirá al público en la Casa de la Cultura de Las Lagunas el próximo 4 de diciembre. Unos 100 alumnos de los tres núcleos mijeños de los talleres de pintura y cerámica de la Universidad Popular protagonizan una muestra navideña ya tradicional en la programación de cultura pero, sobre todo, original. Encontraremos dibujos navideños de todo tipo, con técnicas, estilos y motivos diferentes. Esta exposición es, sin duda, una ocasión ideal para comprobar cómo viven nuestros hijos el espíritu de la Navidad.

Christmas seen through the eyes of the youngest of the house? That is what is apparent in the Christmas Cards Exhibition which opens to the public on December the 4th at the Las Lagunas Cultural House. Approximately 100 pupils from the three mijeño nuclei that have been involved in the painting and ceramics workshops of the Popular University are the protagonists of this Christmas tradition. There are all kinds of seasonal drawings that are skillfull and stylish. This exhibition is, without doubt, an ideal occasion to see how our children see Christmas.

Ensamble Teatro invite us to enjoy their play ‘Vincent in the Wheatfi eld with the Crows’. Directed by Freddy Virgolini, the theatrical project invites the spectator to refl ect on certain values that play a big part in society nowadays. The life of painter Vincent Van Gogh, a man, driven to despair in his desperate search to preserve his convictions set against the pre-established ways is symbolised in the play by the actions of the Crows. During this play we will see scenes of the beginnings of this brilliant artist as the shepherd and texts of the letters he was writing to his brother... Vincent Van Gogh was a great man and a great artist!

Ensamble Teatro nos invita a disfrutar de su obra ‘Vicent en campo de trigo con cuervos’. Dirigida por Freddy Virgolini, esta propuesta teatral es una invitación a la refl exión de ciertos valores que hoy en día juegan un papel en nuestra sociedad. La vida del pintor Vicent Van Gogh avanzaba en su búsqueda desesperada por preservar sus convicciones frente a lo preestablecido, simbolizado en la acción de la obra de los Cuervos. En este teatro veremos escenas de los inicios del genial artista como pastor, textos de las cartas que le escribía a su hermano... Vicent Van Gogh fue un gran hombre, un gran artista.

“Mi primera exposición individual da la oportunidad al visitante de trasladarse someramente a esos soplos de tiempo que he vivido y, por supuesto, para mí, es una ocasión para enseñarlos”. Es la invitación del fotógrafo Carlos Calvo a la que será su primera muestra individual de fotografía digital. Una exposición que se podrá visitar en la Casa Museo de Mijas hasta el 7 de enero y en la que encontraremos multitud de escenas cotidianas o, como dice el propio autor, “momentos que se le antojaron destacables y que tuvo la oportunidad de capturar con su objetivo”. Para Calvo, hacer una buena foto es “capturar el preciso instante de una escena singular”.

The invitation to see the photography of Carlos Calvo is special in itself as it is his fi rst solo digital photography display. This exhibition can be seen at the Folk Museum in Mijas village until the 7th of January and we will fi nd a multitude of scenes from everyday life or, as the author himself says, moments to him that seemed remarkable and had the chance to capture. Daniel Casares y su banda presentan su último álbum, ‘Caballero’. A sus 28 años, este joven guitarrista malagueño se ha convertido en una de las nuevas revoluciones del fl amenco en vivo. Daniel Casares ha presentado su espectáculo en Nueva York, Shanghai, Madrid, Barcelona... y ahora llega a Mijas.

Daniel Casares and his Band present their latest album ‘Caballero’. At 28 years of age, this young guitarist from Malaga has turned out to be one of the new revolutions of live Flamenco. Daniel Casares has performed in New York, Shanghai, Madrid, Barcelona... and now in Mijas.

El departamento de Extranjeros de Mijas organiza como cada año su tradicional concierto de Navidad a cargo del coro de la Sociedad Internacional de la Música, TIMS. Afi ncado en la Costa del Sol, este grupo lleva más de 20 años colaborando con esta actividad. Se cantarán villancicos tradicionales en diferentes idiomas.

The Mijas Foreign Residents Department have organised, as they do every year, their traditional Christmas Concert headed by T.I.M.S The International Music Society. This group have collaborated for more than 20 years with this activity. They sing traditional christmas carols in different languages.

Lo que surgió como un reconocimiento desde el ámbito del rock a discos como ‘Mezclalina’ de Tabletom o ‘La leyenda del tiempo’ de Camarón, se ha convertido en un sólido proyecto defi nido por algunos medios de comunicación como neo-rock-andaluz y capitaneado por los miembros de la banda malagueña TYR.

Following the release of the singles ‘En el Lago’ and ‘Ininteligible 2.0’, Alhandal are preparing to release their fi rst studio album, ‘Raices’ in early 2010. El deporte mijeño también celebra la Navidad. Como ya es tradicional, el Patronato de Deportes de Mijas ha preparado un programa especial para despedir la temporada. ‘Mijeño Sport’ also celebrates Christmas. It is a tradition and the Mijas Sports Patronage have prepared a special programme for the closure of this period. On the 17th, 18th, 19th and 20th of December a Christmas Sports Fiesta will be celebrated at the Las Lagunas City Sports Centre. There will be displays of rhythmic gymnastics, tennis, gymnastics for the thrid age, basketball, swimming, judo, interior fl ight, skating and aerobics. Undoubtedly, it is the best way of saying goodbye to the year and welcoming 2010: with vigour.

Los afi cionados al slot tienen una cita el 19 de diciembre en el antiguo matadero de Mijas Pueblo. El Club Slot Mijas organizará la primera prueba del segundo trofeo ‘World Rally Car’ del Tercer Campeonato de Slot de Mijas. La cita se desarrollará en dos fases: por la mañana jugará la categoría infantil y por la tarde, los adultos. La velocidad y el suspense están garantizados.

El 20 de diciembre se celebrará un año más una concentración de vuelo interior en la Ciudad Deportiva de Las Lagunas. Todos los afi cionados al aeromodelismo están invitados. La participación es libre y requisitos son que el avión no pese más de 200 gramos y tener ganas de pasarlo bien.

On the 20th of December a concentration of interior fl ying will be celebrated again at the Las Lagunas City Sports. All fans of model airplane making are invited. Participation is free, and requirements? Only that the plane doesn’t weigh more than 200 grams and that you want to have a good time!

Fans of Slot have an appointment to look forward to: 19th December in the old abattoir of Mijas Pueblo. La Cala Resort acogerá los próximos días 6, 7 y 8 de diciembre el segundo Gran Premio de Golf de Mijas, una iniciativa que congregó el año pasado a casi 90 participantes. El torneo está organizado por el club Chaparracing y la empresa Golf and Travel Events y está patrocinado por el Ayuntamiento de Mijas. Está abierto a todos los jugadores amateurs que estén federados en Andalucía, no hay límite de edad y podrán participar hombres y mujeres. Los interesados pueden participar dos (a 75 euros) o tres días (a 99 euros) y se jugará en la modalidad de stableford a 36 hoyos. Los interesados ya pueden inscribirse.

If you like golf and you have no plans for the next bank holiday of La Immaculada, don’t look any further! We have a proposition that you won’t be able to resist. La Cala Golf and Resort is the venue for the Gran Premio de Mijas de Golf on the 6th, 7th and 8th of December. This initiative attracted almost 90 participants last year and was open to all amateur golfers of all ages. The event has been organised by Chaparracing Club and Golf and Travel Events and has the support of Mijas Town Hall. The tournament is open to amateur golfers that are federates in Andalucia, there is no age limit and men and women can participate. The cost for two days is 75 euros per person and for the three days it is 99 euros per person. Both options include free shared buggy and a meal. The play is stableford, 36 holes.

Las calles, nuestros hogares, los comercios... el ambiente en general de los pueblos poco a poco nos va anunciando la llegada de la Navidad. Los pastores se afanan en sus ensayos, pronto comenzarán a visitar las casas dedicándonos los villancicos de siempre, letras al niño de Dios que hacen que nuestras fi estas navideñas sean cada año tan nuestras. Llegan los XXV Encuentros de Pastorales Villa de Mijas, este año con 17 pastorales de toda la provincia. La actividad comenzará por la mañana el día 20 y durará hasta bien entrada la tarde. No faltarán los dulces típicos... Encontrarás el ambiente tradicional de estas fechas tan entrañables.

Streets, our homes, shops... and the general atmosphere of towns is, little by little letting us know that Christmas is arriving. Shepherds are busy rehearsing as they will soon visit all homes offering traditional carols and songs to Jesus, all part of the tradition of the festivity. The 25th edition of the Pastorales Meeting Villa de Mijas includes the performance of 17 pastorales from all over the province. This Meeting takes place on the 20th, starting in the morning until late in the evening. It will include typical sweets... You will discover the atmosphere of the Christmas season!

No se sabe a ciencia cierta el origen de las pastorales tal y como las conocemos en Mijas. Pero lo cierto es que los afi cionados recuerdan que esta tradición, prácticamente exclusiva de Málaga, nos ha acompañado ‘siempre’. En nuestro municipio, zonas rurales como La Alquería, Valtocado, Entrerríos o El Hornillo siempre han contado con pastorales que cada año, cuando llegan estas fechas, son las encargadas de anunciar por las calles y en los hogares de todos que llega la Navidad. Este año, la Comisión de Fiestas del Ayuntamiento de Mijas organiza los veinticinco Encuentros de Pastorales Villa de Mijas. Un cuarto de siglo manteniendo una tradición de antaño. Y detrás de ello, siempre el mijeño Francisco Alarcón, conocido como ‘Corro’, un gran afi cionado a este ‘arte’.

The exact origin of the pastorales is not known and is not quite as we know them today. But the important thing is that its enthusiasts recall this tradition, practically exclusive from Málaga; as ‘always’ being with us. In our municipality, rural areas such as La Alquería, Valtocado, Entrerríos and El Hornillo have always had a pastoral that every year have announced the arrival of the Christmas season in the streets and homes. This year, the Festivities Commitee of the Mijas Town Hall has organised the 25th edition of the Pastorales Meeting Villa de Mijas. A quater of a century keeping traditions from long ago. And backing all these inititatives, as always, the mijeñan Francisco Alarcón, known as ‘Corro’, a great supporter of this ‘art’.

Las pastorales son tradicionales de la gente de campo. Cuando llega el frío y hay menos faena, los pastores salen a la calle. De hogar en hogar, sus villancicos anuncian el inicio de la Navidad. Las pastorales, típicas de Málaga, son reuniones de amigos. Antaño, sólo eran de hombres, hoy las mujeres también son protagonistas. Y los niños, antes ‘aguaores’, actualmente también se van incorporando a esta costumbre que, como todas, pasa de generación en generación. Las pastorales recitan canciones populares, letras que pasan de mano en mano. Hablan al niño de Dios, a la Navidad... Pero también hay quien canta villancicos sobre temas sociales. Sin duda, Mijas siempre ha sido tierra de pastorales.

Con más de 30 años de experiencia en las artes culinarias y doce como jefe de cocina del Hotel TRH Mijas, Eduardo es uno de los más veteranos de este establecimiento. Comenzó en la hostelería siendo un niño y hoy, cuenta con la satisfacción de estar al frente de todo un equipo de profesionales, “donde se mezclan la veteranía y la ilusión”, como asegura. Aunque este profesional convierte en obra de arte todo lo que cae en sus manos, confi esa que se siente más cómodo con la repostería y la decoración de platos.

Formado en la Escuela de Hostelería de San Roque, sus 32 años como cocinero y los nueve como segundo jefe de cocina en el Hotel TRH Mijas lo convierten en un excelente profesional de la alta cocina. Juan cuenta con experiencia en empresas como Sofi co, Sol Príncipe y el apartahotel Algaida. Aunque se encuentra muy a gusto elaborando todo tipo de platos, confi esa sentir debilidad por la elaboración de las sopas, las cremas, los pescados y la pasta.

With over 30 years experience in the culinary arts and twelve as head chef at the TRH Hotel Mijas Eduardo is ‘the’ veteran in this establishment. He started in the hotel trade as a youngster and today, has the satisfaction of being at the head of a whole team of professionals, “where the seniority and illusion are mixed” he assures us. Although this professional turns everything into a work of art, he confesses that he is much more comfortable confectionery and cake decoration.

Trained at the San Roque Hotel Trade School, his 32 years as a cook and nine as an assistant chef in the TRH Hotel Mijas have turned him into an excellent professional of Haute Cuisine. Juan Calvente has had previous experience with Sofi co, Sol Principe and Apartahotel Agaida. Although he is very happy to prepare all types of dishes, he admits that he has a weakness for soups, creams, fi sh and pasts.

Se conocieron hace unos cuatro años mientras jugaban en el equipo de baloncesto local. Además de su pasión por este deporte, las horas de entrenamiento les sirvieron para descubrir juntos su afi ción por el hip-hop. Son Félix, Fran y Nacho, tres jóvenes laguneros que aspiran a ganarse la vida como cantantes, productores y dj’s. Mientras compaginan sus estudios con largas sesiones de composición y producción, ya comienzan a hacer sus pinitos en diversos locales de la costa. Vive Mijas se reunió con ellos en el parque Andalucía, lugar donde han compartido innumerables tardes tirando a la canasta y concibiendo nuevos temas y melodías. Entre foto y foto, estos tres jóvenes músicos nos contaron divertidos su trayectoria y nos confesaron sus aspiraciones para el futuro.

They met each other approximately four years ago when they were playing in the local basketball team. In addition to their passion for this sport, the many hours of training together, helped them discover their love of hip hop. Félix, Fran and Nacho, (three young laguneros) aspire to making a living singing, producing and being disc jockeys. While they combine their studies with long composition and production sessions, they start to take their fi rst steps in diverse places along the coast. Vive Mijas met with them at the Andalucia Park, a place where they have shared innumerable afternoons shooting balls into the basket and conceiving new themes and melodies. Between

photos, these three musical youngsters entertained us with their trajectory and divulged their aspirations for the future.

Fue su hermano mayor el que, cuando él tenía unos 11 años, le descubrió a los artistas hip-hop del momento. Pasado el tiempo, Félix conoció a otros jóvenes afi cionados a este tipo de música y empezó a sumergirse en el ámbito de la producción. De manera autodidacta y apoyado por los consejos y trucos de sus compañeros, fue poco a poco realizando bases instrumentales propias, temas infl uídos por canciones de rap americano, francés, nacional y ‘underground’.

Fruto de todas sus horas de composición, Félix sacó a la luz el pasado mes de agosto ‘Obertura 2009’, un trabajo que ya cuenta con cientos de descargas, sobre todo desde Sudamérica. Por ahora, este joven aspira a seguir trabajando y, sobre todo, formándose ya que, como asegura, “aún queda mucho por aprender”.

Infl uenced, in the same way as his partners, by recognised fi gures of hip-hop like Totekim, Doble V, Hablando and plata and SFDK, Nacho devotes himself to his musical style under the fi gurehead of dj. It is several years since he formed part of the world of ‘turntablism’, which he was introduced into thanks to his friends. Infl uenced greatly by the rap culture, he carried out his fi rst live performances with the Surversatil Crew group, also acting with some of the recognised fi gures of the national panorama. Faithfull to the old ways, i.e. discjockeys with vinyl, he assures us, “I like feeling the texture of the disc under my fi ngers”. The young man has collaborated in diverse record works of rappers in the area, such as Uru. Just like Felix, his project for the next few years is to specialise in sound to perfect his skill and to exploit other facets of the hip-hop culture.

Infl uido, al igual que sus compañeros, por reconocidas fi guras del hip-hop como Totekim, Doble V, Hablando en plata y SFDK, Nacho se dedica a este estilo musical bajo la fi gura del dj. Hace ya varios años que forma parte del mundillo del ‘turntablism’, en el que se introdujo gracias a sus amigos. Infl uenciado notablemente por la cultura del rap, realizó sus primeros directos con el grupo Surversátil Crew, actuando también con reconocidas fi guras del panorama nacional. Fiel a las antiguas costumbres, pincha con vinilo ya que, como asegura, “me gusta sentir la textura del disco bajo mis dedos”.

El joven ha colaborado en diversos trabajos discográfi cos de raperos de la zona, como Uru. Al igual que Félix, su proyecto para los próximos años pasa por especializarse en sonido para perfeccionar su técnica y explotar otras facetas de la cultura hip-hop.

Con un par de trabajos discográfi cos en la red y varias colaboraciones con otros ‘hiphoperos’ de la zona, Fran ha hecho del trabajo en su ‘home studio’ una parte imprescindible de su día a día. Por encima del mensaje, sus letras se basan en juegos de renglones y sílabas ya que, como señala, “no puedo escribir sobre aquello que no me ha tocado vivir”. Su fuente de inspiración procede del jazz, el funky, el soul y la música clásica y sus composiciones parten, en algunos casos, de bases melódicas de sus compañeros, como las producidas por Félix.

El joven ha compaginado durante años sus estudios de magisterio con sus tareas como productor y compositor y sus actuaciones en ferias y locales de la zona, como el chiringuito de Nané, en La Cala. Ahora, se encuentra en Sevilla, donde además de ejercer su profesión, sueña con entrar en contacto con otros artistas y fundar, algún día, su propio sello discográfi co.

With a couple of records on the network and several collaborations with other ‘hip-hoppers’of the area, Fran does his work in his ‘home studio’ which is an integral part of his daily life. Over his message, the words are based on a play with lines and syllables, since as he indicates, “I can’t write about what I haven’t experienced”. His source of inspiration comes from jazz, funk, soul and classical music, and his compositions, started in some cases, from the melodic bases of his partners, like the ones Felix has produced.

For many years this young man has combined teaching studies with his tasks as producer and composer as well as his performances in fairs and local places including chiringuito de Nañe, in La Cala. Now, it is Seville, where in addition to practising his profession, he dreams of contact with other artists and founding, some day, his own record label.
