spart faCts!In ancient Greece, there was an amazing city known as Sparta on the banks of the eurotas River in a place called Laconia. Sparta was the capital of the place and the Athens hated them.

Spartan peopleWhen they were born, the stronger babies were given special attention and the smaller and unhealthy babies were separated from the rest and left behind. By doing this, the Spartans hoped to make sure that only those who were fit would fight the best.At the age of seven, boys were taken from their parents and put into small groups. The strongest boys were made captains and they ate black soups and other rotten food. Yuck! Unlike the boys of Athens, they spent little time learning music and literature. Instead they were trained

to be the best and strongest soldiers. Scary huh?

The Spartan armyThe army men would line up side by side and put their shields together and attack the enemy. The Spartans spent most of their lives training for wars. They never broke the group and could defeat bigger armies. They wore red uniforms and carried a shield, a spear, and a short sword.

CultureUnlike Athens, Sparta did not have a great culture in art, learning,

philosophy or beautiful buildings. Instead, Spartan men protected their city with great walls made of bricks were the best soldiers in ancient Greece. All Spartan men trained to become warriors from the day they were born. Spartans did not study art or literature; they studied war and loved to fight!

Social classSpartan society was divided into different social classes:• Spartan - At the top of Spartan

society was the Spartan citizen, who were the soldiers. There

were only few Spartan citizens.• Perioikoi - The Perioikoi were

free people who lived in Spartan lands, but were not Spartan citizens. They could travel to other cities, could own land, and were allowed to trade.

• Helot - The Helots were the largest part of the population. They were slaves to the Spartans. They farmed on their own land, but had to give half of their crops to the Spartans as payments. nAdIA AbduLLAh

i am adnan’s bodyhey everybody, my name is Adnan. Please help me! my body parts have been torn apart by an evil witch named Rafata! only you can help me put them back together. here’s how you can do it.

one body part of mine will be here every week. you have to cut it out, collect them every week until they all come together. I’m sure you can do it and save me from Rafata!

LegsHi I am Adnan’s legs. How are you guys doing? I’m not very well. I have about eight big bones in both legs you see. They are getting weaker and I have trouble making poor Adnan run. That is how the evil Rafata caught up to him. I think it’s all my fault. If only I could talk to Adnan’s head and tell him to make Adnan exercise more to make my bones stronger. They need calcium to become bigger and stronger! Adnan needs to eat more green vegetables, cheese and drink more milk. If he doesn’t, I’m scared he can’t walk properly later!

wEEk 1 Body parts:

Why should you drink milk? Well, because it is “nature’s wellness drink!” This means that milk is natural, and will keep you healthy and keep away sickness! Milk contains calcium, vitamin D and other important minerals that help to build your bones and teeth, and maintain healthy muscles and bones. So next time, when you want to eat something unhealthy like soft drinks or your favourite potato chips, drink a glass of milk instead! nAdIA AbduLLAh
