August is a funny month. You never know whether it’s going to be sunny or rainy tomorrow. Did you know that rainbows are caused by light rays being bent through raindrops? Thinking about that put us in the mood for rainbows, and that’s why we have some colourful crafts and

experiments for you to try this week. Why not make your flowers bloom in a rainbow of different colours? Or make some bright paper lamps? Check out what Dr Meow has in store for you.Are you having a fun time being back at school? Write to us at [email protected] and let us know.

An erudite and wonderful personality, this week our favourite teacher is Mr. Ahmed Shamim Kamal. Mr. Kamal embarked on his teaching career with a dream to change lives and create bright futures for his students. After completing his SSC and HSC in science, Kamal did his honours and masters in English and started his teaching career in Oxford International School. From there he joined Scholastica as a teacher of English Literature in 2006. Presently he teaches literature in classes 8, 9 and for O levels. When he isn’t teaching, Kamal writes, collects various books for his collection and sets his free time to “observe the world with pleasure and find ourselves.” Currently he is completing his MA in ELT from Dhaka University.

How often do we help someone in trouble? These two are an example we can learn a lot from. Nasir and Jalal are best friends.

Their friendship started with a little act of kindness by Jalal. Little Nasir was getting beaten up by a random stranger he had asked money from.

Jalal intervened and he begged the guy to stop. The stranger came back to his senses after Jalal’s plea to stop. He felt really guilty and apologised and walked off. Nasir was really shaken up. But he was really grateful to Jalal for saving him. To this day they are brothers in arms.

Jonaki is really happy to have a new friend. Her friends at the Treehouse are not so happy about this. They just might have a very good reason for this.

Step 2Fold one corner to the centre, and then repeat for the other 3 corners. Your origami paper will look like a kite now.

Step 3Flip the paper over.

Step 4Now fold the bottom tip to the centre and then repeat the same thing for the other 3 tips.

Step 5Flip it over again.

Step 6Fold the bottom right corner to the centre. Repeat for the other 3 corners.

Whether it’s a cat or a dog, you should always focus on making your home pet friendly for your four-legged friends. Secure your home before it’s too late. The following tips should do the trick!

CleanIf you are serious about bringing in a pet, then you should clean everything in your house and keep it clean for at least 4 days or more until you have to clean it again. If your pet makes a mess, clean it up straight away, before it’s too late.

bigstock

OrganiseKeep your pet’s toys, brush and other items in one place. You wouldn’t want them to get mixed up with yours. If they are lying around elsewhere, guests might trip on them, and you would not want that to happen.

BatheCats will need a shower, once every month. Dogs, on the other hand need a bath every time they get dirty. Fol-low this, and you’ll have a stench free home, and a healthy and happy pet.

in the jars for 8-10 hours and watch blooming rainbows! For best results, leave the flowers overnight.

ExplanationAs water evaporates from the flowers, more water is pulled up through tiny tubes called xylem that run up the flower stem. The food colour particles diffuse with this water to all parts of the flower, especially the petals, giving the white carnations these amazing rainbow colours ! sama e deen

aXE rulEHere’s an animated series written by a kid. It is about a police officer who uses his axe as a weapon to fight evil. He sleeps only minutes a day and spends every night battling bad guys like Telescope Gun Cop and Doctor Stinkyhead. From Aliens to zombies, the police officer fights everyone. Anyone who threatens Axe Cop’s friend, or messes with the law automatically becomes an enemy. Although Axe Cop initially started as a web-comic, it went to become a novel and now an animated series. Although there is violence involved; the series is filled with amusing moments ready to capture your heart. Rifat binte haideR
