Solution: Guy Hamilton lies when he claims he had a talk with Laura L at around 2pm. How could he, as she wouldn’t be home as her visit to the hairdresser would last more than an hour? He returned later and killed her at exactly 4:33pm.

Fun For aLL!Children are meant to do all possible funny things and guess what they are never embarrassed for doing them! That’s the most special part of being a child-the world seems too little to give importance and playing with buddies is all that matters! There is a lot to learn from children, isn’t it? On a sunny morning, a city becomes very bright. The birds fly, trees seem to wake up early. The sky and the clouds smile over the city.

New York, 2012Here lives a girl, who shines like a sunny day. Her life begins by watching the sky. She thinks to herself, “I’m a part of the sky.” She has

many friends. And she lives with her Grandfather who she calls “Grap.”

Her parents aren’t with her any more. She loves to write songs and wishes to become

a songwriter. Every day she meets many people and plays with

them. She is always friendly and frank to all.

She loves her country very much. Her name is Ethal.

One Day, Ethal was sitting by a riverside (a place where Ethal used to come every day). She was sitting with some papers to write songs. But she saw that she doesn’t have a pen. So, she went out to bring a pen. After coming back, she saw someone reading her songs. She shouted and said, “Hey! What are you doing with my papers?” He looked at her and ran fast. Ethal ran after him but couldn’t catch him. “You fool! If you’re scared, why did you even come? Oh! My papers!” she started checking her papers. She passed the whole day thinking about him because she has never seen someone like him. (To be continued)

MAKE A CHINESE LANTERNRead the instructions and make your own Chinese lantern.

You will need a piece of A4 paper / card, scissors, glue, coloured pencils, a strip of paper and some string.

Take a piece of A4 paper and fold it in half lengthwise.

Then make regular cuts at intervals. (Don’t cut right through to the edge).

Decorate your lantern with a Chinese Zodiac animal and write a label in English.

Unfold your paper and glue the edges together.

Then glue a strip of paper over the top as a handle.

Make different lanterns and hang them on some string as a decoration for Chinese New Year.

Once upon a time, there was a samurai named “Ashiama.” He was from the village Norita. The people of the village called him the seventh tiger because he was from the tiger family, the seventh and the last son in the family. The tiger family was known for its intelligence, bravery, courage and strong beliefs. Ashiama was known as the greatest samurai across the eight nearby villages. Many evil people were angry with him because he used to stop people from doing bad things. His worst enemy was Takishi from the Keo village.

Takishi had a daughter, the fair Chichi whom Ashiama used to love. Takishi sent many people to kill Ashiama but none could kill him. Chichi was in love with Ashiama too. Since Ashiama could not go

and meet Chichi, they used to send messages using a pigeon. They tied a letter around the pigeon’s leg and let it go. The pigeon would take the letter to and fro.

One day Takishi was killed. Later, Ashiama came to know that he was killed by his friend, Amara. Next day, Ashiama went to thank Amara for coming to the village and he took Chichi along with him. However, Chichi was really sad about her father’s death. Since she was angry with Amara, she cursed him. Amara did not care. When Amara saw Chichi for the first time, he became crazy for her as if he could do anything for her. (To be continued)

Speedy might be a turtle, but he’s not slow. Travelling the world and staying fit are his

favourite things.

For nearly a thousand years a group of glittering people ruled the Mediterranean area. They were known as the Minoans after their popular king, Minos. In about 6000 BC, people living there had moved from mainland Greece to the island of Crete. They built huge palaces and the most important one was the palace at Knossos, their capital city.

The main Minoan palace at Knossos was really tall in places and had more than 1300 rooms. The walls were painted with colourful paintings showing scenes from Minoan life. The palace itself had rooms with religious shrines, workrooms for craft workers, storerooms and living rooms.

The Minoans were great sailors. They traded throughout the Mediterranean area and with Egypt, carrying passengers, wine, oil, cloth

and bronze in their ships. Minoan sailors fished the stormy waters around Crete and traded all over the eastern Mediterranean. Fishing was the basis of the Minoan economy. They grew wheat, vines, olives and herded sheep on the mountain slopes as well.

Young Minoan men and women performed dangerous acrobatic things for religious and entertaining reasons. They took turn jumping through the horns of a bull. After the dance they sacrificed the bull and spread its blood on the land. Few of the many who used to take part in this dangerous act would survive.

The Minoans produced nice pottery as well. They used potter’s wheel to make eggshell-thin, beautiful pots and huge jars called “pithoi.” Oil, wine and food grains were stored in the “pithoi.”

The Ekushey Boi Mela is the national book fair of our country. It is arranged each year in the month of February by Bangla Academy. This event is held to honour the ones who died on February 21, 1952. They demanded to make Bangla the state language.

Books are a great way of learning

and discovering new things. It is also a great way to spend and enjoy your time. You can go to the book fair and look through many books on different topics. The few great writers whose works are shared in the book fair are Dr Muhammed Zafar Iqbal, Ahsan Habib and the

late Humayun Ahmed. Make sure you read their amazing books. Their words will make you feel like you’re inside the story yourself. You can also buy the story books if you wish. Apart from the books, there are cultural shows which may be fun for you to watch.

The fair takes place in the Bangla Academy inside Dhaka University and lasts till the end of February. However, this year the stalls will be located in Suhrawardy Udyan which is right opposite to Bangla Academy.
