Trainer Role There is none a single role of the Trainer. It will be different under each of these scenarios: 1.The transfer of factual information 2.The explanation of concepts and theories 3.The transfer of skills and capability 4.The utilisation of capability However, the roles of trainer can be distinguished in four main areas.

1. Subject knowledge
2. Group manager
3. Method / process expert.
4. Trainer communication
1. Subject Knowledge A learned trainer has comprehensive knowledge of subject. It is therefore an important part of your own development to update your knowledge. The more knowledge you have the more credible and confident you are. Tips / guidelines: • Update with research • Nobody knows every thing • If you don’t know, admit it • What else….
2. Group manager This skill takes much more time than subject knowledge. Trainers require a high level of interpersonal skills. They must be sensitive to group atmosphere and understands the psychology of individuals and groups. Tips/ guidelines: • Make the environment flexible • Don’t control, manage the group • Regroup several times • What else…..
Handling questions and interruptions Most questions are not questions; they may be participants’ comments, views, observations, addition or subtraction to the topic. However, if there is a genuine question then answer it briefly!

3. Method / process expert Training is meant for learners, therefore adopt a method or process which suits best to your participants. Tips / guidelines: • Familiar with learning theories and styles • Choose best method for learning • Liked by the learners • Watch others trainer and learn from them
