Google: 62 Percent Of Valentine’s Day Restaurant Searches Were Mobile
Google is releasing some data on mobile search and
Valentine’s Day. The company said, “A whopping 62
percent of total searches for popular national chain
restaurants [in the US] on Valentine’s Day occurred on
high end mobile devices or tablets.”
One more time: 62 percent of all US-based national chain
restaurant queries were coming from mobile devices.
Google uses the data to make the valid point that if your
business (florist, restaurant, etc.) wasn’t optimized for
mobile you might have missed out on some meaningful
revenue opportunities.
In a related vein, Google also offered an instructive case
study involving 1-800-Flowers, which recently redesigned
its mobile site and saw an immediate gain in engagement
and conversions.

More Backpedaling: Netflix Brings Back the $7.99 DVD-Only Plan
Netflix is looking to make things right again. The company just reintroduced its DVD-only
subscription plan. Consumers are finally able to sign up for this plan without also paying for (or
trying) Netflix streaming. As Softpedia points out , this option briefly disappeared last fall as the
company was trying to realign after the Qwikster disaster.
Netflix experienced a fall from grace in 2011. The once star of Wall Street, the company could
seemingly do no wrong. But then they did wrong: prices increased by up to 60%. Next, the
company spun off its legacy DVD business in an effort to focus greater on streaming media.
Netflix’s stock plummeted and quickly lost more than one fifth of its value.
But don’t count Netflix out. The company’s stock price has doubled since its 52-week low of
62. This latest move, while seemingly pro-consumer, will also allow Netflix to leverage DVDs
again. Streaming is still Netflix’s future, but DVDs are still big business — even if the
company’s CEO sees DVD subscribers decreasing until they’re all gone. Until that happens,
though, Netflix is back in the business of delivering movies and TV shows to consumers no
matter how they want it.

Building your Brand with Pinterest
If you are looking to build your brand, what you pin can be important. Anyone that visits you on Pinterst will
see the sorts of things you associate with or think are cool. People like to do business and work with people
that they share commonalities with.
Pinterest has also been hailed as a community building tool. It gives people the means for sharing their
interest with other people. And the people who will follow you on Pinterest have the same interests. It’s a
good way to gather demographic information, too, as you can find out the age groups of those following you.
Here are some tips from Techcrunch.com on how brands can leverage Pinterest now:
1. Add Pinterest content to your existing Facebook presence.
2. Optimize your web priorities to draw people to your Pinterest content.
Put a “Follow Me on Pinterest” button on your website.
3. Tell your existing social audiences about what’s happening on Pinterest.
Make sure you periodically post Pinterest content to your Facebook, Twitter, and Google +.
4. Make your Pins work harder for you.
This means using a URL shortening and redirection strategy, preferably one that aggregates your Pinterest
analytics (views, Repins, etc.) in a central location.

Airport Observation Deck Transformed Into An Information Environment http://www.psfk.com/2012/02/airport-observation-deck-transformed-into-an-information-environment.html#ixzz1melFfHjI
Four modified telescopes ( Airport Scopes) positioned around the deck allow users to pan
around the airport grounds and see real -time information overlaid about specific flights and
operations within terminal buildings. Information from the control tower is relayed to each of
the Scopes about planes parked at each gate as well as those on taxi to takeoff or after
landing.

The project was designed by Art+Com and includes a rich mix of digital and environmental
communications. In addition to the Scopes, six digital displays positioned around the deck
provide technical details and flight information. Several POV glass panels include facts about
structures around the airport. Floor graphics, inspired by runway markings orient and guide
travelers around the area.
