New York TimesFor Super Bowl XLVI, a Bigger Batch of First-Time AdvertisersNew York Times
Sometime a team comes to the Super Bowl having never played one. That is also true
on the advertising side of the game. And for Super Bowl XLVI, to be broadcast by NBC
on Feb. 5, there will more first-time sponsors than usual.
The Super Bowl newbies include two luxury car brands, Acura and Lexus; Century 21,
the real estate firm; the Dannon Company division of Groupe Danone; the H&M retail
chain, which will advertise a new line of David Beckham Bodywear underwear; and 2nd
Story Software, the maker of TaxACT tax-preparation software.
The rookies' commercials will run amid dozens from marketers with extensive Super
Bowl experience, among them Anheuser-Busch, Audi, Bridgestone, CareerBuilder,
Cars.com, Chrysler, E*Trade, General Motors, GoDaddy.com, Honda, Hyundai, Kia,
Mars, PepsiCo, Toyota and Volkswagen.

It's been a busy month for Yahoo.
Barely two weeks after naming former PayPal boss Scott Thompson its new CEO, the
Sunnyvale, Calif.-based company announced today that co-founder Jerry Yang has
resigned. Yang resigned from Yahoo's board of directors, as well as the boards of Yahoo
Japan Corporation and Alibaba Group Holding Limited, effective today.
"My time at Yahoo!, from its founding to the present, has encompassed some of the
most exciting and rewarding experiences of my life. However, the time has come for me
to pursue other interests outside of Yahoo!," Yang wrote in a letter to Yahoo's board. "As
I leave the company I co-founded nearly 17 years ago, I am enthusiastic about the
appointment of Scott Thompson as Chief Executive Officer and his ability, along with the
entire Yahoo! leadership team, to guide Yahoo! into an exciting and successful future."

Mashable:Textbook Makers: We're Not Afraid of Apple's Education Announcement
Apple is set to make an announcement regarding education on Thursday, and it will
likely involve electronic textbooks. The latest rumor claims the company will unveil a
"GarageBand" for books that puts tools for creating interactive digital textbooks into
the hands of anyone with an Apple device.
If Apple's potential foray into textbooks weren't already threatening to publishers of
etextbooks, Job's idea of pre-loading free textbooks on every iPad - which he
explained to his biographer Walter Isaacson - seems like it would be. But as they
anticipate Apple's announcement, digital textbook makers reassure us they're not
afraid (even if other players in the space might be).
"I think everybody is nervous," Inkling CEO Matt MacInnis told Mashable. "I have
received more emails on this topic from publishing than I would have thought."

The passage of antipiracy legislation affecting the Internet, long considered likely, is no
longer so certain.
Showing a strategic ability worthy of the best political campaigns, some of the Internet's
most popular sites are about to unleash a splashy weapon - Internet blackout day - to block
proposed antipiracy legislation.
The groups have seized on a cautiously worded White House statement Saturday offering
partial support for their cause and quickly joined a brewing blackout plan, outflanking the
traditional media industry.
"There is a changing of the guard in D.C.," a media executive with a Washington
background said of the shift on the issue. "The political power mirrors the marketplace
growth. You see a lot of gravitational pull toward these new tech guys."
