Welcome to our beautiful city and to the fourteenth edition of the second season of “the Sibenik times”. doesn’t everything seem lovely when the sun is shining? you can be having the worst of days, or a bad day at work or just generally feeling under the we-ather. But when the sun breaks through the clouds, as it has do-ne this week, everything seems bright and rosy. I always thou-ght it was only the English that moaned about the weather and believe me they certainly have plenty of reasons to moan. But I was wrong. the Croatians have also caught this bug, it’s either too hot, or too cold, or the wind is blowing in the wrong direction and they feel moody. after living in England for almost thirty years and experiencing all that the En-glish weather can throw at you, I really am not in the position to moan about Croatian weather. although I have to say the longer I live here the colder I feel the win-ters, maybe my blood has thinned out or maybe my body has finally acclimatised to the warmer we-ather, but when the north wind blows its cold, really cold. My pa-rents phoned me the other day and told me that they had been swimming in the seas in England and that the sea temperature was 13ºc. a shiver went down my spine and I replied “that’s a tem-perature for penguins and not for people.” I’ve got so used to the warm seas here that if the sea temperature isn’t at least 23ºc I won’t go into the water, that’s a full ten degrees warmer than the sea in England at the moment. Guess I’ve pretty much fully adju-sted to me surroundings.

Almost a month on from the Black Sea Asso-ciation of National News Agencies reporting that bathing conditions are deemed “good” at 16 of the beaches along the Croatian coast and “satis-factory” at nine, there is more good news for the country. There are now more reasons to head on a Croatia vacation because the Croatian Times has reported that the Balkan nation has been given 115 Blue Flags for beaches and 20 Blue Flags for marinas. Coastal attractions had to meet various environmental and security criteria to achieve such an accolade, which indicates that many of Croatia’s popular holiday spots are held in high regard by the authorities. Despite being down ten per cent on last year due to economical issues and not ecological reasons, the Blue Flag total is a si-gnificant number. Some 3,338 beaches and mari-nas across Europe, North Africa and beyond have been presented with Blue Flags this year.

People on a Croatia travel trip this summer, as well as locals looking for a good time, will be able access so-called disco trains between Zagreb and Split from this week. Travelling from the capital ci-ty to the popular Dalmatia holiday destination, the service will provide passengers with refreshments, entertainment and - as the name suggests - disco music.

Anyone on a holiday in Croatia between July 3rd and August 22nd will be able to buy tickets for the Croatian Railways route. This year, the project is being supported by Croatian telecom-munications services provider T-HT. Vesna Maric, an author involved with the Lonely Planet Croatia travel guide books, recently recommended Split as a vacation destination, saying it has good nigh-tlife, a number of historic attractions and is close to the Dalmatia islands. She said that the city is a “beautiful place” to visit, but is often overlooked by holidaymakers.

The peak season is for a limited time and for most of the year it is lovely and not so crowded, [plus] it is comparatively cheap compared to any western destination,” Ms Maric commented. Croatia’s food and wi-ne production - as well as its selection of natural parks, lakes and mountains - were also commended. On the subject of wine, people on an Istria vacation last weekend would have been able to get involved in the Festival of East Istrian Wine, which showcased the local drink to visitors.

The Croatian anti-smoking associati-on “Bez dima” (No Smoke) has issued an open letter in response to bar and re-staurant owners’ opposition to the new anti-smoking law. The Croatian Resta-urant Association has claimed bars and restaurants have lost 70-to-80 per cent of their business because of the law, which entered into force in May. The associati-on has recommended the Austrian model of solving smoking problems that gives bar and restaurant proprietors the right to decide whether their establishments will be smoking or non-smoking places of business. Bez dima is claiming the asso-

ciation is trying to deceive the public be-cause Croatia has had the equivalent of the Austrian model for the last 10 years and no restaurant or bar owner has de-cided to ban smoking. Bez dima is char-ging that bar and restaurant proprietors simply want nothing more than “a per-mit for smoking,” which is unethical. Bez dima is calling on Croats to think twice before signing the Croatian Restaurant Association’s petition against the anti-smoking law and preparing to return to stinky, smoky and fusty bars. Bez dima is also criticising the media for neglecting to mention the positive impact of the law.

Croatia has been awarded 115 Blue Flags for beaches and 20 Blue Flags for marinas this year. To get the exc-lusive eco-label Blue Flag, a beach or marina has to meet ecological, educa-tional, security and service standards. The Blue Flag Programme is owned and run by the independent non-profit organisation Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE). The programme is an international pro-ject started by the EU Council in 1981. Croatia has ten-per-cent fewer Blue Flags this year, but that is because of recession, not ecological issues. Beca-use of lack of money, there were fewer applications for Blue Flags this year. ‘Lijepa Nasa’ (Our Beautiful Land) association head Ante Kutle said to-day (Weds) a Blue Flag was important to many tourists when they choose their summer-holiday destination, the daily Vjesnik has reported. Kutle said: “Last year, Croatia received 145 Blue Flags for beaches and marinas that ranked it seventh on the world list.” The Blue Flag was awarded this year to a total of 3,338 beaches and marinas in various countries.

Irish rockers U2 are performing in Croatia next month and if the band's first concert of the tour is anything to go by fans can expect a spectacular occasion. The band entertained the Barcelona crowds on Tuesday and Wednesday and also paid tribute to the so-called King of Pop Michael Jackson, who died last week. However, Bono and the other members of the group have not made it clear if they will be repeating this mark of respect to the Man in the Mirror sin-ger when they play in other countries around the world over the next few months. Croatia welcomes U2 on August 9th and 10th - and many people from across Europe will be making the trip to Zagreb especially for the gigs. Some may wish to make a holiday of the event and explore what else Croatia has to offer. For those who do, hiring a car could provide the best option for travelling the Balkan nation

JEZERA

Jezera is situated on the so-uth-east coast of Murter, the biggest island in the archipela-go of the region, around thirty kilometres west of the city of Si-benik. It lies in a well protected horseshoe shaped bay. Jezera translated into English literally means lake. The name Jezera comes from the fact that the soil in that area is non-porous which results in rain collecting and forming large ponds. The largest of these, Blato, was dra-ined at the end the last century to avoid the spread of malaria. The second largest, Lovka, is still full of water today during the rainy seasons. However, in the summer months tourists do not think about rainfall because Jezera offers a lot of sunshine,

clear seawater and a nice cove with a beautiful beach. Somet-hing specific for the Jezera is that the houses on the coast were built relatively recently in the 18th century. Until that time there existed a threat of pirates and raids from the sea, so the original houses were construc-ted about half a kilometre in-land. Historical records of Jezera can be found as early as the 13th century and an older cultural monument is the church Lady of Health which was built in 1720. In the past the local people of Jezera carried out a number of professions on the land inclu-ding olive growing, wine pro-duction and quarrying, although the most significant professions in Jezera were always connected

to the sea including fishing and the transport of cargo. Even tho-ugh Jezera is the smallest place on the island it always had the largest number of boats and ot-her vessels. This trend continues today and tourists will always be able to find fresh fish and seafo-od there. In fact the fishing so-ciety in the town is the oldest in this part of the Adriatic, formed back in 1922. Today Jezera has around 1000 full-time citizens and most of these are employed in the tourist industry.

The leader of tourist develo-pment in the area is the com-pany Školjić. The company has built, in the bay of Lovišća, a modern tourist resort and camp with a total accommodation for 1500 guests. Guests to this com-

plex can also arrive via the sea as the resort has its own marina with a capacity for 220 vessels as well as dry docks for 60 boats during the winter. Apart from the fact that Jezera is one of the stops on the way to the Kornati islands another attraction of the marina is that it is well protec-ted from strong winds blowing from any direction, this makes it very popular with mariners. In the summer yacht schools are organised and last year the place became recognised outsi-de of Croatia for the competition “Big Game Fishing” which was organised at the end of Septem-ber. As a matter of fact cultural events have a long tradition in this area, from the Pučke library which was formed over one hun-

dred years ago to the art society Koledišće which was formed in 1970 as well as other tradition dances that have been around for over four decades. Today Je-zera has another strong tourist attraction and that is the festival “Days of Jezera.” It is held from July to September and conta-ins many interesting sights for tourists. Some of these include “Jezera gastronomic evening” and “The Fisherman’s festival.” As you can see Jezera has kept its strong links to the sea even today. Jezera has also been reco-gnised by the Croatian National Tourist Board. In a project na-med “Blue Flower”, which rates all Croatian tourist destinations, Jezera has won one gold medal and three silver medals.

Pirovac is a lively, very beauti-ful town with many natural en-dowments. Industrious hands of a few inhabitants ornamen-ted it through past centuries with historic monuments of la-sting value. It is situated at the farthest western point of the county of Sibenik and Knin. Pi-rovac is a municipal centre and, next to Primošten, Vodice, Mur-ter, the most important munici-pal tourist centre of the Sibenik Riviera. A mild climate, well-in-dented coast, numerous coves and sandy beaches, vegetation, pine forests and centenary oli-ve-groves, clean and warm sea, magnificent sunsets, beauty of the coastal region guarantee unique delights and experiences to all visitors of Pirovac. Beauti-ful coves, Sitnica, Vrulje, Maki-rina and Vrilo with their pebbly beaches and clear sea are very

charming and a special attracti-on is the islet of Sustipanac, si-tuated right in front of Pirovac, where you can relax and enjoy swimming and sun bathing. Pi-rovac is very close to two Natio-nal Parks, “Kornati” and “Krka” and it is only 5 kilometers away from the Park of Nature “Vran-sko jezero”, which is very suita-ble for recreational fishing. Via the Adriatic Highway Pirovac is connected with cultural and historical centers, such as Sibe-nik, Zadar, Trogir and Split.. This small town was first mentioned in the year 1298 and was known as Zloselo. It belonged to the noblemen from Bribir - the Subic family and later it became the property of the Sibenik Diocese and some noblemen from Sibe-nik. The settlement itself was founded in the 15th century by the refugees who fled from the

Turks. Nevertheless, this area was inhabited many centuries earlier than that which can be proved by the remnants of the Roman settlements found on the islet of St. Stephen. Many other historical monuments tell us about the gradual settle-ment and development of this place. The defense wall, erected around 1505 by Petar Draganic, has been partly preserved in the village. The parish church of St. George from 1506 was restored in Baroque style in the 18th cen-tury. Pirovac bases its gastronomic offer on the long-lasting tra-dition of preparation of local specialties and keeping original recipes. Culinary art and hospi-table treatment in the pleasant Mediterranean atmosphere of Pirovac promises extreme enjoyment in home cooking

with our olives, olive oil, all of very high-quality and most im-portantly all natural and auto-chthonous. Particularly lively and ecologically clean subma-rine world is an inexhaustible source of healthy food that will always be available to you in the freshest form, with a glass of lo-cal wine. Gastronomic pleasures and the most famous Dalmati-an specialties such as shrimps, fish specialties prepared in different ways can be found in private, widely known restau-rants. in Mediterranean vegetation of enchanting smell, mingled wi-th the original smell of the sea and agreeable tide that makes the sea in this bay 3-4° warmer during summer than the avera-ge temperature of the Adriatic Sea in that time of the year. Pi-rovac Bay has many beautiful coves, sandy beaches and at the western entrance, the island of St. Stjepan, called Sustipanac. On the southern side of Piro-vac Bay, is a natural swimming beach with curative mud. In its composition, quality and quan-tity that site with curative mud exceeds all known sites in Croa-tia. Its medicinal application is a basis for a real tourist boom. Pirovac certainly has plenty to offer, from beautiful coves and beaches to culinary delights and not forgetting the wonderful and extraordinary nature.

Etnoland Dalmati is the first theme park of its kind in Croatia, which opened its' door for the first time in May 2007. It is located in middle Dalmatia, only 10 minutes away from Krka National Park, more precisely in Pakovo selo (15 km away from Šibenik).

With an area of total 15000 m2 and a capacity for 500 people we offer our visitors the possibility to meet and fully experience the life of Dalmatian Zagora in the past by getting them acquainted with the customs, tradition and way of life of this region. This undoubtedly ma-kes the park a unique one. The complex is comprised of an old Dalmatian hou-se, "pritorak" for animals, "guvno" place, old handcrafts, unique area for shows - "kolarište" arena, restaurant and souve-nir shop - small Dalmatian market. The quided tour begins with the visit to the old authentic Dalmatian house (ethno - museum) which includes the cellar with wine barrels and other equipment nee-ded to make and preserve wine. Repre-sentations of the old room for sleeping, grandma's volving chair, room for eating and black kitchen are on the ground flo-or, while the smoke room for smoked ham and meat is found in the attic. In addition to the above mentioned, Etno-land offers its' visitors a garden full with authentic spices and vegetables, as well as a "pritorak"place for keeping animals (e.g. sheep, goats, chickens, donkeys). In the old handcraft house visitors have the possibility to meet the stone-mason, weaver and wood-cutter. This is the pla-ce where it is shown how people used to live and work in this rocky and very poor land. A unique part of the complex is the arena "kolarište" where visitors can get familiar with the overall Dalmatian story through traditional songs and dances. A small Dalmatian market is the place whe-re authentic souvenirs can be bought. Among programs from the offer, which

you can find in the attachment, empha-sis is placed on the program called "Ty-pical Dalmatia ". This program includes: guided tour through Etnoland Dalmati, domestic smoked ham tasting and wine tasting, traditional dinner with live music and an authentic folklore show. During dinner visitors can taste traditional do-mestic food and in that way take with them unforgettable memories. Apart from guided tours, lunches, dinners and folklore shows, Etnoland Dalmati is an ideal destination for team buildings, pro-motions, weddings and all other types of group arrivals

• What makes Etnoland different from the other tourist attractions in the Si-benik County?

The main differences are that we of-fer our own programs. You could call it a “mini” educational program or a team building program. We take our guests through our village with a guide and that guide informs the guests through stories on what they see. The aim is to show how people once lived in Dalmatia, especially in the Dalmatian countryside. Through these tours the visitors will have around 30% information and 70% en-tertainment. This is another aim of Et-noland to entertain our guests as much as possible. In this way when our guests have finished their tour they will come to eat in our restaurant and will under-stand more about the cuisines they will taste. They will understand why certain foods are prepared in one way and what kind of wines they will be trying. Guests can then understand more about Croa-tia, Dalmatia and Sibenik. For example very few tourists know how meats and cooked “under the bell” so we show them first what a “bell” is and the system of preparation before they actually try the meals. This way of cooking is a Dalmati-an speciality, which is almost impossible just to translate into English let alone

understand how the meals are cooked. The whole process needs to be explained before you really understand.

• How did you come up with the idea of Etnoland?

The project started in 2003 when we came up with the idea. In 2004 we star-ted to realise our dreams and construct the whole centre and then in 2007 we opened our doors to the first guests. The idea was mine and the land on which the centre sits is also mine. With have aro-und 15,000 metres squared with many different objects spread over the land. We have two separate museums, a large summer restaurant plus a winter resta-urant, amphitheatre, barn for animals as well as ample parking for guests. The idea when we first started was to make an attraction aimed at foreign tourists; we thought that we would introduce our heritage to foreign guests. However, we have found more and more local citizens coming and visiting our centre. As many Croatia’s moved from the village to the cities they forgot in many ways their roots in village life. We can show here how life once was in times gone by and at the sa-me time people can learn and rediscover their roots. Etnoland, in this concept and in this size doesn’t exist anywhere else in Croatia, although I would welcome competition of any kind. At the end of the day competition is good not only for us but also for the complete tourist offer of Croatia.

• Do you cater for individual guests as well as groups?

Yes, we have many individual guests turning up more and more. As I have already mentioned we have seen more and more local people attending Etno-land and I am particularly pleased with that. To be honest when we began I didn’t expect so many individual guests to co-me. We have even introduced a special program for individual guests this year.

This program includes individual tours with a guide through our museums. In fact all guests are welcome at any time in Etnoland during our opening hours, which are between 11:00 in the morning up until 19:00 in the evening; although during the height of the tourist season we will lengthen the hours to the evening. Our restaurants cater for all kinds of gu-ests; we have an a la carte menu as well as all of the local specialities.

• Are all your products locally produ-ced?

Where possible we have used local products, that is the whole concept of Etnoland. Not only are the products “et-no” but also our prices are “etno” based. Our prices are significantly lower than a restaurant near to the coastline would be.

• What are the plans for the future?This year we have opened the first

“prsut” (smoked ham) museum in Croa-tia. As you probably well know prsut is a local speciality especially for this region. In this museum you can see the history of prsut as well as the way it is prepared. Of course we have paid special attention to local Drnis prsut because we are loca-ted near the town. This museum is not only aimed at larger groups but also for individual guests. Guests can experience the smell and taste of real Dalmatian pr-sut. The museum will also include a film that will show prsut in its many phases. I hope and in fact I’m sure that the muse-um will be of interest to everyone, from school children right up to experts in the prsut field. The whole tour through the museum should take around half an ho-ur and again we will use the theory of education and entertainment. Of course you can try the prsut at the end of the tour, which really is the point. There are of course many other plans for the future. We have to keep our offer interesting and up-to-date so we are always on the look out for new projects.

There are many other obstacles that can stand in your way of having fun in the sun such as DVT, jet lag, travel-ler's tummy and sunburn. But there are a number of natural remedies to cure them. This happens when the flow of blood is restricted in a vein and a clot forms. Solution: The most effec-tive way to reduce the risk is a safe, natural remedy called pycnogenol, an antioxidant. This plant-based product, which is a pine bark extract, can help to keep the blood circulating and re-duce the production of thromboxane which, along with immobility, can in-crease the stickiness of red blood cells and makes them more likely to clot. On the road to Boraja lies the Torcida restaurant which due to its great popu-larity always has a nearly full car park.

The restaurant is named “Torcida” and the story of the restaurant begins with spit roast lamb. Many tourists to the Sibenik region visit the cathedral or the national parks but also on their list of things to see is this restaurant. Although many people don’t know that the restaurants pizzas are just as good as its famous lamb dishes. As a person with a sense for the finer things in life and one who appreciates the simpler side of life I would have to say that their pizzas are among the top five in the country.

‘It’s a great place’As you enter the restaurant you will

see a familiar scene, waiters carrying plate loads of roasted lamb, mixed salads, bottles of wine, jugs of water and of course the specialty of the ho-use fresh homemade bread. In spite of the never ending crowds of guests that have come to enjoy the cuisine the waiters seem to manage to cope with every eventuality, they’ll take your or-ders with a smile and even if you just order pizza they’ll bring it with the same pleasure as they would a plate full of lamb.

I discovered “Torcida” one winter. Those were happy days. I was hun-gry and looking for some simple food without the pomp and ceremony that many restaurants offer. As I asked aro-und I kept hearing the name “Torcida” I was told “It’s a great place, you’ll find what you want there.”

Prepared to perfectionIt seemed like the city of Sibenik had

all moved to the “Torcida” restaurant. The restaurant was more visited than the cathedral and the market put toget-her. Young lamb with spring onion, dri-ed octopus cooked under the bell and mouth watering desserts gave the who-le place the feeling of a local theatre. The restaurant offered the local citizens of Sibenik everything they wanted from a real “local”, people would gather to play cards or chat over a great local fine wine. It is a meeting place for the whole city. And with prices for a bottle of wine at 60 kuna for a liter I was clear top see why. But it was then that I discovered the restaurants pizzas.

Just fifteen minutes after ordering my reward of dough that was soaked the day before with basil arrived. Co-vered with ham, mushrooms, tomato-es, smoked ham and olives all cooked in an oven at 250º Celsius, perfection.

is unbreakable. And finally its people are friendly, ge-

nerous and warm. Every week we’ll bring you a few short fact files of different areas of life in the county so that you can better comprehend the culture that surrounds you.

Rakia is hard liquor similar to bran-dy and vodka, popular in Croatia and among the South Slavic peoples. The tradition of making and drinking rakia as well as all other distilled beverages, is a lot poorer than a corresponding wine

tradition. However, the two of them are certainly

intertwined, since the process of distilla-tion as we know it today was first used by South Italian monks approximately a thousand years ago.

Sibenik was mentioned for the first time under its present name in 1066 in a Charter of the Croatian King Petar Kre-šimir IV. For a period of time, it was a seat of the Croatian King. For that reason, Sibenik is also called “Krešimirov grad” (Krešimir’s city). Sibenik is the oldest na-tive Croatian town on the eastern shores of the Adriatic. Sibenik was given the sta-tus of a town and its own diocese in 1298. Excavations of the castle of Saint Michael have since proven that the place was in-habited long before the actual arrival of the Croats. The city, like the rest of Dal-matia, resisted the Venetians up to 1412. The Ottoman Empire started to threaten Sibenik at the end of the 15th century, but they never succeeded in conquering it. In the 16th century, St. Nicholas For-tress was built and, by the 17th century, its fortifications were improved again by the fortresses of St. John (Tanaja) and Šu-bićevac. The fall of the Venetian Republic in 1797 brought Sibenik under the aut-hority of the Habsburg Monarchy. After World War I, Sibenik became a part of

the Kingdom of Yugoslavia, while during World War II it was occupied by Fascist Italy and Nazi Germany. After WWII it became a part of the SFR Yugoslavia until Croatia declared independence in 1991. During the Croatian War of Indepen-dence (1991-1995), Sibenik was heavily attacked by the Yugoslav National Army and Serbian paramilitary troops. Altho-ugh under-armed, the nascent Croatian army and the people of Sibenik managed to defend the city. The battle lasted for six days (September 16-22) is often re-ferred to as the “September battle”. The bombings damaged numerous buildings and monuments, including the dome of the cathedral and the 1870-built thea-tre building. In an August 1995 military operation, Croatian Army defeated the Serb forces and freed the occupied areas, which created the basic conditions for its post-war recovery and allowed the region to continue to develop as the centre of Sibenik-Knin county. Architecturally, the damaged parts of the city have been fully reconstructed.

The Queen of fragrances, Lavender, has a long tradition in Croatia and especially in the Dalmatia region. Its pastel pur-ple blossom is a part of the Dal-matian landscape. Today dried lavender in small canvas bags is sold as an authentic souvenir. It is a relatively inexpensive gift for friends and family and can also be bought in an oil form.

The Sibenik archipelago consists of 249 islands, islets and reefs, which form an area of 157 square kilometres. Six of them are permanently inhabited (by aro-und 6600 people). In the Sibenik- Knin County there are 285 islands in the sea (which are larger than 1 kilometer squ-ared) as well as islets, tidal islands and reefs, in fact the county has more islands than the rest of the Republic of Croatia. 149 of these islands are located in the Kornati National Park and the remaining 136 islands have a total surface area of 665 km squared.

ZLARIN The island of corals with a single vi-

llage also named Zlarin. The first written document mentioning the island dates from 1386. The gothic Our Lady of Rašelj church (XV ct.) stands out in the island's architecture with its numerous paintings. Other very interesting sites are the ba-roque church of Our Lady of Assumption, St. Roko (St. Rocco) and St. Šimun (St. Simon) chapels from the XVII ct. The islanders have been known for their fis-hing, sailing and coral processing (unique in the Adriatic) skills. Coral jewellery is still manually crafted in a small island factory. The original female garb/ costu-me is a part of its rich cultural and social heritage.

OTOK PRVIĆ This island was inhabited in the early

medieval times. In the XVI century, the people from the nearby mainland formed a settlement named Luka, in an islands bay. The following century saw the birth of another settlement, named Šepurine. The latter is known for its Our Lady of Assumption church, the baroque St. Ro-cco church (XVII ct.) and Our Lady of the Holy Visit (dating from XV ct., restaura-ted in 1878). There is a column with a capital on the coast, allegedly brought there from the Roman settlement Salona. A congregation of Glagolitic friars also inhabited Prvić Luka. It was the strongest point of Slavic liturgy in the Šibenik area. Aristocrat families from Šibenik owned

most of the island's land, among others the Vrančić and Draganić families. Faust Vrančić, a renowned scientist, writer, philosopher, mathematician and physi-cist was buried in the Luka parish church.

ŽIRJE It is the furthest point in the Šibenik

archipelago. Remnants of fortifications from the late Roman period can be found above the Mala and Velika Stupica ports. In 1059, Croatian king Petar Krešimir IV gave the island to Benedictine monks. Numerous Šibenik families owned land on the island during Venetian occupati-on. In the recent Homeland War it had a vital role in the defence of the city, a fact that confirms the island's strategic importance throughout its long history.

KAPRIJE It got its name after “kapar” (caper)

a Mediterranean plant used as a spice. Its beauty and protected port attract many nautical tourists and yachts. The island's St. Peter church was built on the turn of the XV century. The inhabitants, once great sailors and fishermen, have recently started turning to tourism as an additional source of income.

KAKAN Dubbed the “island of the children of

the world”, this uninhabited island was relinquished by the City Assembly of Ši-benik for the “Seventh Continent – chil-dren of the world' town” project in 1970. The idea was to bring children from all over the world to stay there for a while, to spend time together and create their own world in the unspoilt nature. The project was sponsored by the U.N. but was tem-porarily cancelled due to war.

OBONJAN - YOUTH ISLAND Its thick pinewood forest and secluded

beaches make it a perfect destination for swimming and fun-desiring youth from all over the world. Premises were built on the island with the facilities necessary for organized activities and comfortable stay of all young visitors.
