REEL TO REALReel to Real have overcome

extraordinary technical, legal and logistical hurdles to launch their incredible movie spectacular onto the world stage here in Edinburgh. Fusing live and filmic mediums, this production celebrates an expansive Broadway and musical tradition.

Telling the story of twins Jack and Jill, racing around the world in an effort to become their father’s successor, Reel to Real darts across countries, movies and songs to complete an epic journey. Along the way, stops are made at Wall

St, London, Paris, Hollywood and Hong Kong before arriving at the final destination, The Great Wall of China, where they discover who has won their global quest.

The production uses an incredible powerful 35k Projector, the magnitude and power of which only became available just one month before the opening of Reel to Real. In fact, theirs is currently one of only seven in existence worldwide.

Such technology facilitates a design that is entirely video based. “This is a piece of 3D Broadway musical theatre” explains producer Simone Genatt. “Literally the whole place becomes live, a jungle gym of moving screens”.

INTERVIEW - TWO EPISODES OF MASH

Joe Wilkinson and Diane Morgan took time out from their Fringe schedule to talk to The Pleasance Times. Hello both, shall we get started?Jw: Is this an interview?

Oh, ok. Just before we start,, who do you think sounds more nasal? Me or Dianne?Err… I think Diane.Jw: Haha. dM: What!? Oh my god, really? Jw: You freak, Diane, you’re more

nasal than me. That makes you an absolute monster. Sorry, I’ll let you do the interview now. When do you first perform at the Fringe?Jw: We both did stand up shows to start with. I did AAA Stand Up, Joe did Comedy Zone. Jw: And I did that show, The Comedy Bucket. We tried to find the shittest name. It was either Comedy Bucket

or Comedy Trough. dM: I prefer trough. Jw: But trough sounds thought-out, which is probably why we dropped it.What’ve you kept/changed about the show this year?dM: Stefan has made it better! [Stefan Golaszewski, director of Tim Basden’s and Jonny Sweet’s Edinburgh Comedy Award winning shows] Jw: He saw our show last year and really liked it. Except for the crap bits. So he took the crap bits out and put in better stuff. He’s astonishing. He’s a freak because he’s so clever. dM: It’s still a shambolic show, but now it’s the kind of shambles that people don’t mind paying for. It’s less shit.Should audiences be concerned about this shambolic style?

dM: No no, we’re nice people, we don’t do any horrible audience interaction – I hate that. Jw: I hug people…Why ‘Two Episodes of MASH’?Jw: Well my name’s ‘Two Episodes’ and this is ‘MASH’. dM: Nah, that’s just the silly story we’re putting out there. The first year we came up to Edinburgh we thought “Oh my God, how are we going to fill a whole hour?”, so we concocted a backup plan to screen to light TV entertainment. But people still come in as fans of the show. Jw: Luckily we’ve started to develop a bit of a reputation of our own now – a couple of people are even coming to see us specifically!
