The Training for the Olympics.

• They would train 10 months before the Olympics even started.

• It was a very tough training that wore them out.• They competed individually and not on teams.• One month before the Olympics they had to train

in an arena and prove that they trained for 10 months.

• Judges would pick certain people to compete.

How they Coached for the Olympics?

The coaching was very harsh and tiring. When anybody was done training at the end of the day you were very worn out. All of the people who compete in the Olympics have very good coaches who know about the sport that you are training for. The coaches aren't just harsh and mean, they can make you feel very determinate too. In 520 BC Olympia a boxer was getting beat up bad in the ring, but right before he lost his coach said to him “one for the plough” to remind him when he was little and lives on his father farm he fixed a bent ploughshare with a straight right. He won and become an Olympic champion.

How did the Ancient Olympics influence the Modern Olympics

They used to be held every 4 years in the same place and now they are still held every 4 years but at a different place.

Summer is every 4 years and winter is every 4 years but we have them spaced out where every 2 years there is a summer or a winter Olympic.

There were only 10 sports in Ancient Greek Olympics but today there are a lot more.

In the ancient Olympics they were awarded with an olive wreath that they had to wear on their heads and they were given a wild olive tree branch to hold. It was cut off with a golden handled knife. Today winners are given gold, silver, and bronze medals along with flowers and becoming famous. Today a torch is lit at Olympia to honor the ancient Olympics.

Role of women…

One reason that women may not be accepted to be in or maybe even go to the Ancient Olympics was…

• Men don’t want the women to see them naked, all or most of the men in the Olympics didn’t have any clothes on.

• Another one would be women never over ruled men; the women were considered a pollutant. (they were considered bad.)

• One more thing is if you were a man and you ever got beat at something by a women it was a disgrace.
