UNTIMED POWER BOOST: STRENGTH ON YOUR SCHEDULEWe know what it’s like to sit in the operator’s seat when you hit solid rock. The power boost button on most excavators can deliver the extra force you need to break through – but only in short bursts. We knew there had to be a better way, so we took our jobsite experience and collaborated with our engineers. The result is an untimed power boost that comes standard in all KOBELCO conventional excavators from the SK210LC to the SK500LC. It provides all the extra muscle you need continuously so you can power through the toughest jobs without interruption.

From Grapples, Rotatorsand Saw Units that are the Industry Standard.
The John Deere 850K and 1050K Crawler Doz-ers impressed a jury of independent design spe-cialists from 41 coun-tries, and took home the 2016 Red Dot Award – one of the world’s largest and most distinguished design accolades. In col-laboration with BMW Group subsidiary Design-works, John Deere devel-oped an industrial design language on the 850K and 1050K that delivered a consistent aesthetic to the entire dozer family. These machines boast in-dustry-leading toughness for mining, quarrying, road building and other large-scale operations.
“We are incredibly humbled to receive such prestigious recognition from these experts in the industrial design indus-try,” said Doug Meyer, global director construc-tion engineering. “The award underscores the hard work of the John Deere team and our part-
ners to deliver strong, durable machinery that helps our customers achieve outstanding re-sults.”
The John Deere 850K Crawler Dozer boasts more power and weight for increased produc-tivity and an EPA Final Tier 4/EU Stage IV diesel engine for work in non-attainment areas. Deere included equipment owners and operators from the beginning of the design process to de-velop optimal solutions for the updated 850K Crawler Dozer. Key ser-viceability features, such as the innovative easy-to clean “V-cool” package, give the 850K “best-in-class” status in the ve-hicle market. The entire K-Series crawler dozer product line now has a spacious redesigned cab that is noticeably quieter and more comfortable. The overall design lan-guage emphasizes cham-fering to enhance visibil-
ity to the blade, side and rear of the machine.
The John Deere 1050K Crawler Dozer is a production-class ma-chine built to emphasize strength, toughness and durability. Because op-erators spend long work hours in construction machinery, product du-rability and user comfort are of the utmost impor-tance. Strong chamfers, surface breaks and stout overall proportions se-cure an active stance and directional assertiveness.
Manufacturers and de-signers entered a record number of approximately 5,200 innovations in the Red Dot Award Product Design category in 2016. The jury was also bigger than before, with 41 ex-perts coming together in Germany to assess each entry live and on site over a period of several days.
The 850K and 1050K weren’t the only John Deere products to win. The 8000 Series self-pro-pelled forage harvester from the Agricultural Division also secured a prestigious Red Dot Award. b

Highest ground clear-ance on the market head-lines string of productiv-ity, efficiency and comfort features built into this revolutionary machinery specifically engineered for rough terrain applica-tions.
Vallée, the Québec-based manufacturer and designer of lift trucks and handling equipment, in-troduces the 4DA20D XRT & 4DA25D XRT OTR Tire Lift Trucks, the latest ad-ditions to its Compact Series, and the lift trucks boasting the highest ground clearance in the industry. Making grounds in the wood industry
The XRT trucks, which stand for ‘extra rough terrain,’ live up to their name as they’re built to maximize productivity gains on uneven surfaces and in tight spaces. In ad-dition to delivering the highest ground clearance on the market, the XRTs can handle surprisingly
ultra-heavy loads for their size, and precisely be-cause they’re built com-pact, they can provide a degree of agility that can measurably increase the speed at which tasks are performed.
“The first thing that motivated us to develop the XRT was the total ab-sence of lift trucks with the kind of ground clear-ance needed to operate efficiently on rugged terrain commonly found in lumber yard applica-tions, etc.,” says Vallée CEO Frédéric Beaulieu. “Then we started think-ing about integrating other innovative solu-tions designed to make it more agile, a more spa-cious ergonomic cab and standard suspended seat-ing that would reduce operator fatigue and con-sequently increase pro-ductivity, unobstructed lines of sight and a 85% blind-spot-free surround-view for better visibil-ity and safety, and extra
plusses like side-shifting and levelling that permit loads to be handled with greater precision.”
Increased ergonomy and productivity means a more comfortable bot-tom line, because they are designed to work long hours in rough con-ditions, articulated to work in confined condi-tions, and built tough to handle sizeable loads, Vallée’s XRT trucks al-low you to have fewer vehicles operating at the same time and are capable of snaking their way around and into ar-eas that are harder to ac-cess, which means you can size-down the space you need to operate. Real time and money savers — especially when you add the extra reduced spending made possible by the XRT engine’s fru-gal diesel consumption. “The productivity — and by extension — the bot-tom-line gains are notice-able,” emphasizes Beau-lieu. “And best of all, we can customize any of our XRTs to the exact speci-fications required to suit the client’s end use.” b

International Truck has launched a company-wide initiative, DriverFirst, aimed at giving its cus-tomers an edge in attract-ing and retaining qualified drivers through vehicles designed with a strong emphasis on the driver’s perspective.
The DriverFirst prod-uct design philosophy builds on International’s long-standing emphasis on customer uptime by sharpening the company’s focus on the driver’s point of view.
“Today, for our cus-tomers, uptime means more than having trucks that are built to stay on the road,” said Denny Mooney, senior vice presi-dent, Global Product De-velopment. “Given the industry’s chronic driver shortage, it’s also about having enough drivers to operate those trucks. And for us, that means build-ing trucks that will help our customers attract and retain drivers, by reflect-ing the driver’s point of view in the way they are designed and the tech-nologies and features they offer. Simply put, we want to build trucks that drivers want to drive.”
The DriverFirst initia-tive was inspired by cus-tomers’ and drivers’ input for International’s upcom-ing renewed product line, gathered from driver clin-ics, fleet feedback and studies of driver trends. Many customers told the company that due to the driver shortage, they are hard pressed to keep all of their trucks operating.
These stories are con-sistent with quantitative reports from American Trucking Associations and other industry sources that the industry is currently 35,000 to 40,000 drivers short of meeting its needs.
“The key takeaway from our research is that drivers want trucks that are designed to do the job,” Mooney said. “Driv-ers aren’t looking for something automotive or futuristic for its own sake. They just want something comfortable and func-tional, with a design that helps them do their job better and more easily.”
Mooney identified four specific areas where In-ternational is pursuing on-going innovations and driver-centric features, based on its research into driver needs:• Comfort: Driver comfort
is greatly enhanced by factors like ergonom-ics, interior lighting and colour, as well as low noise, vibration and harshness (NVH).
• Safety: Driver safety can
be enhanced by mul-tiple factors, ranging from visibility and state-of-the-art headlights to advanced systems that use radar, digital cam-eras and other technolo-gies to avoid and miti-gate accidents.
• Productivity: Drivers benefit from technolo-gies like automated manual transmissions, as well as improved ve-hicle serviceability and ease of maintenance.
• Efficiency: From im-proving fuel economy to designing more intui-tive displays, drivers are interested in features that will help them get the job done more effi-ciently.Though the Driver-
First philosophy was only recently formalized, it reflects a long-standing customer focus that has already yielded a number of International innova-tions in the marketplace, Mooney said. Some exam-ples include the compa-ny’s being first to market with the Bendix Wing-man Fusion safety sys-tem, which makes drivers’ safety a priority, and Inter-national’s own Over-the-Air Programming, which reduces downtime spent in driver maintenance. b

The new Commando DC130Ri – a rubber tired compact size top ham-mer drill rig - is the latest addition to Sandvik Con-struction’s surface drilling product offering. The new machine includes a large number of upgraded fea-tures developed through consultations with custom-ers, while the foundation of the unit is based on the se-ries of drill rigs launched in 1988. It is in fact the years of experience that guaran-tee a versatile, highly pro-ductive drill rig combined with intelligence and top-rated mobility.
Modular design and practical layout of compo-nents, new efficient rock drill and a new intelligent control system with large on-board touch screen, are the core features of the new machine. The fully remote-controlled, hydraulic and self-propelled compact size drilling unit, with 4-wheel carrier, is designed for drill-ing 22-45 mm holes. But this isn’t all; the new Com-
mando DC130Ri has been built on the feedback re-ceived from customers that has resulted in nearly 100 practical changes and up-grades that make this unit really a user friendly - must have - drill rig.Tougher than ever, with high performance and versatility
A completely new RD106 rock drill providing a high 5.5 kW output pow-er, and a new intelligent drilling control system, form the basis for Com-mando DC130Ri’s high penetration rates. Perfor-mance is further enhanced with the machine’s large drilling coverage area, and a new forward pointing feed that allows it to drill closer to structures than before. The machine also possesses the functional-ity to have roll-over for the feed, change drill steels on the rock drill, and to adjust the drill rig to challenging environmental conditions with additional appliances such as the fuel powered
engine heater. All this en-sures that the Commando DC130Ri is a truly versatile drill rig that is easily adapt-able to changing job sites, and different drilling appli-cations. These include road construction, demolition works, secondary break-ing, foundation drilling, trenching, shaft sinking as well as dimensional stone quarrying.First intelligent compact class drill rig
The new intelligent control system of the Com-mando DC130Ri provides modern machine control features that until now have been found only on larger drill rigs. Intelligent engine control provides operating cost savings through lower fuel con-sumption by optimizing the engine power based on actual requirements. The advanced drilling control guarantees smooth drill-ing, and is gentle to drill steels. High performance is further enhanced by be-ing able to increase percus-sion pressure while drilling without sacrificing rock tool life.

Addi-tionally, the new control system enables the use of the TIMi aligning and in-clination system as well as the SanRemo remote moni-toring service.Mobile and well balanced
In machines of this size class mobility, transport-ability and stability are essential features that re-ally count. From its initial development, the very first Commando was built to meet these requirements. Being of compact-size and light-weight construction for easy transportation, the new Commando DC130Ri is equipped with four
high-torque tramming mo-tors, and skid steering that makes the unit extremely mobile. The machine is well balanced, with an op-timized center of gravity which means it is able to reach steep slopes without any problems. In case of higher inclinations, a hy-draulic winch with auto-matic rope tension control is available as an option. For added drilling stability, the Commando DC130Ri comes with extendable front ground legs as a stan-dard.Modular design for easy maintenance
Commando DC130Ri has a completely new modular design and com-ponent layout that allows easy reach to all service points and components. The whole carrier is divid-ed into four main modules, which can be dismounted when making major over-hauls. Furthermore, the better collective placement of the hydraulics, and opti-mized location of the elec-trical cabinet, has allowed the hosing to be significant-ly reduced and the electri-cal wiring minimized. A completely new cover system has two large side doors with gas springs, and
a removable middle roof section that provide easy, and two-direction access, to all service points.
More features adding to the user friendliness and the safety of the machine are the practical radio re-mote controller with the
optional Remote Screen So-lution, display lights for the on-board screen, and effi-cient working lights for the drilling area, as well as for each sides of the machine. The Commando DC130Ri is equipped with fuel-ef-ficient and low-emission

One of Colorado’s old-est privately owned com-panies partners with one of the industry’s most respected manufacturers; Duffy Crane & Hauling of Denver, Colo., is expand-ing its fleet and service offerings with a newly commissioned Terex AC 100/4L all terrain crane. Founded in 1886, Duffy Crane & Hauling is a family-owned company specializing in the lift-ing and transportation of overweight and over di-mension loads. The com-pany added the Terex AC 100/4L for its impressive 194-ft (59 m) boom length, the largest of the 120-ton (100 t) capacity class of cranes, and its ability to travel to jobsites without curfew restrictions.
“Our new Terex AC 100/4L all terrain crane fills a niche in the market-place,” says Jeffrey Cum-mings, President at Duffy Cranes & Hauling. “After doing extensive research, we determined this crane
was the best multi-pur-pose, two-man crane for our needs and the only non-curfew unit with a 190-ft (58 m) plus boom size. This saves us a lot of prep time because we don’t have to send it out in advance of a job and then spend time waiting for a job to start.”
Cummings also points out that because of the crane’s boom length, they have more flex-ibility to perform lifts that typically require a larger crane. “The combina-tion of the crane’s reach and over-the-road travel performance lowers our operating costs, and that translates into cost sav-ings for our customers,” he adds.
The compact Terex AC 100/4L all terrain crane is the only crane in the 120-ton (100 t) capacity class to feature a standard truck width of 8.4 ft (2,6 m) making it possible to position the crane in tight locations. With a telescop-
ic main boom of 194.9 ft (59,4 m) and the 26.2 ft (8 m) section of its 62.34 ft (19 m) long double folding jib, the crane also features one of the longest system lengths (226.4 ft / 69 m) that can travel on four axles. A powerful 445-hp (332 kW) engine is re-sponsible for the crane’s cost-effective operation, excellent road-traveling performance and out-standing fuel economy.
Duffy Crane & Hauling put its new crane to work right away, lifting a power distribution center from the inside of the manufac-turer’s facility to a trailer so they could transport it to its new home. “Right out of the gate, we were impressed with the AC 100/4L,” says Cummings. “We made a great invest-ment.” b

PrimeTech presents the latest version of its 160 HP tracked, self-propelled car-rier (prime mover) for veg-etation management and land clearing: the PT-175.
PrimeTech have changed the game once again with a new improved tracked carrier. The rede-
sign was made keeping in mind input and feedback from customers, who live mulching every day and who know what works best.
In its brand new form, the PT-175 pre-serves the features of the previous model, in-
troducing some brilliant improvements:Remote Control
PT-175 is now also available with remote control. Remote control technology enables PT-175 to operate in danger-ous conditions and on very steep slopes. It is
able to perform uphill, downhill and sideways, without putting the opera-tor into risky and unsafe situations and avoiding an uncomfortable seating position for the operator due to continuous driving sideways on slopes and ditches.
An innovative remote control ensures accurate guidance of the vehicle at a range of up to 1000 meters. All of the controls and displays the operator would normally see in the
cab are on the remote-con-trol unit too. The runtime of the batteries reaches up to 10 h. Moreover, the tilting remote control unit can be opened by a man-ual pump, which allows easy access and inspect-ing of all components lo-cated underneath.More Accessible And More Nimble With Minimal Weight
The frame redesign looked at making the PT-175 leaner, with the result of the engine com-
partment now being even more accessible:• the internal roll-bar
has been removed for a much better access to the engine and related com-ponents;
• the machine has a new, lighter main frame and improved undercarriage connection;
• the big side doors guar-antee easy access and perfect service ability;
• the rear part of the frame is hinged and can be

DTI is investing $23 mil-lion this fiscal year
into continued work on Route 11 from Route 15 to Shediac River aimed at fa-cilitating the movement of people and goods making businesses more produc-tive and competitive and improving highway safety.
Infrastructure upgrades began last summer and will focus on promoting economic growth, improv-ing mobility in the Shediac region of New Brunswick and increasing safety for all those who use the highway system.
The $60-million, three-year project will see an overhaul of on-and off-ramps and the twinning of 6.8 km of highway from Route 15 to the south side of the Shediac River. The federal government’s share of $27 million is coming from the New Building
Canada Fund while the province is kicking in the remaining $33 million.
The total cost of the proj-ect has been estimated at about $1 billion. Improve-ments to Route 11 will be completed in phases over the next 10 years, with the most heavily traveled sec-tions to be twinned and the rest of the route upgraded as funding becomes avail-able.
“Strategic infrastructure investment is a cornerstone of our government’s plan to create a climate for job creation and stimulate eco-nomic growth,’’ Transpor-tation and Infrastructure Minister Roger Melanson said in a press release re-cently. “As announced in the Department of Trans-portation and Infrastruc-ture’s 2016-17 Capital Bud-get, our government will continue to invest in pri-
ority projects such as the twinning of Route 11.’’
He said strategic infra-structure investment is a cornerstone of the govern-ment’s plan to create jobs and stimulate New Bruns-wick’s economy.
“As part of the National Highway System, Route 11 is a key transportation corridor for many busi-nesses from all regions of our province,’’ added Melanson. “The section of highway being twinned in the Shediac area has a traf-fic count of about 19,000 vehicles per day with sea-sonal peaks exceeding this volume. These upgrades to Route 11 will facilitate the movement of people and goods making our busi-nesses more productive and competitive and im-proving highway safety.’’
In addition to the sus-tained economic benefits,
Melanson said New Bruns-wick companies will see from reduced shipping times and vehicle operation costs, the direct and indi-rect impacts from construc-tion work are expected to generate $37.2 million in GDP and approximately 590 jobs.
In the 2016/17 fiscal year, DTI will tender six additional contracts in this project area. One has been tendered and the remain-ders are anticipated to be tendered soon. Tenders 1-5 will be completed in fall 2016 and Tender 6 in fall 2017.
Tender 1 is a contract for the paving to the top of asphalt concrete D of approximately 3.3 km of southbound lanes for the twinning of the Route 11. As well, the work includes the grading and paving of a four to two lane transition at the northern limit of the contract.
Tender 2 calls for the grading and paving to the top of asphalt concrete D of approximately 1.3 km for the twinning of Route 11 and modifications to Route 134 Interchange. The work includes signing, lighting and construction of the new southbound lanes, three new ramps and a small portion of a service road (temporary ramp con-nection).
The work will also in-volve temporary connec-tions, two detours and the decommissioning of seven of the existing Route 134 ramps.
Tender 3 includes the
grading to the top of ag-gregate sub-base of ap-proximately 1.6 km of main lanes for the twin-ning of Route 11. The work includes construction of both northbound and southbound lanes as well as portions of three ramps, Route 133 and the new service road. Two culverts necessary for the crossing of watercourse will require provisions for fish passage.
Tender 4 is for the grading and paving for the widening of Route 15 eastbound and westbound lanes to accommodate the future Route 11 merg-ing lanes while Tender 5 consists of the paving the Route 11/133 interchange and service road.
Tender 6, meanwhile, is a two-year contract to construct the Route 11/15 over-pass. A portion of the new Route 11, from Route 134 interchange to the Southside of the Shediac River, is expected to open this fall.
According to informa-tion provided by DTI, Phase 1 included twinning 6.8 kilometres of highway from Route 15 to the south side of the Shediac River, construction of one new interchange, as well as a new grade separation and modifications to three oth-er existing interchanges. A total of four tenders were awarded in 2015 includ-ing three grading projects and a structure for the new Route 11/Route 133 inter-change.
The New Building Canada Fund will provide $53 billion over the next decade in infrastructure money to provincial, terri-torial and municipal infra-structure. Over the next 10 years, New Brunswick will see approximately $866 million in federal funding, including almost $394 mil-lion under the New Build-ing Canada Fund. b

Refining Route 11New Brunswick’s Route 11 Twinning Project continues to be a priority of the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure as it moves into its next phase. Article & Photos By Jennifer Gouchie-Terris
Work will resume soon on the next phase of construction on the Route 11 Twinning Project in New Brunswick. Infrastructure upgrades began last summer on the $60-million, three-year project which will see an overhaul of on-and off-ramps and the twinning of 6.8 km of highway from Route 15 to the south side of the Shediac River.
opened for quick and easy cleaning and main-tenance of the radiator.
New MF200 Undercarriage
An even more impor-tant improvement is the new undercarriage:• Two upper rollers (previ-
ous model had one up-per roller only) to better guide the track chains;
• Upper and lower rollers are now the same and stronger than the previ-ous ones;
• Sealed and lubricated track chains for longer lifetime of chain, pins and bushings;
• Wider sprocket and idler to avoid twisting of the track chain;
• Idler with bigger diame-ter and stronger tension-ing device;
• Lubricated chain with “split connection” to al-low easier removal and installation of the track chain;
• Track pad bolt size up-graded to M14 (previous M12) for stronger fasten-ing;
• New, more heavy-duty final drive with im-proved sealing and end cover fastening;
• New connection style be-tween undercarriage and main frame;
Radiator and FanPT-175 is equipped
with an oversized radia-tor, allowing the machine
to operate in very hot cli-mate with no overheat-ing issues. The radiator comes with coarse fins, preventing it from get-ting plugged by dust and dirt and making cleaning much easier.
As an option, the PT-175 can be equipped with a proportional (so-called variable pitch) and reversible sucker fan. Based on radiator temperatures (coolant, intercooler and hydraulic oil) the blades will au-tomatically adjust their position in the most ef-ficient and effective way. This results in less power absorbed by the fan and in lower fuel consump-tion as well as less air and dust flow crossing the engine compartment, helping to keep it clean-er.New Options
New available options include:• Track chain guides to
better guide the track chains and to reduce wear
• Canopy to avoid built-up of debris and snow on engine compartment.
• New GPS Plus with sur-face mapping to monitor productivity by measur-ing mulched surface, overlap, etc. with an ac-curacy of 0-20 cm (0-8”). b

Portsmouth, UK-based Rapid Response Solutions (RRS) has taken delivery of a 300t hydraulic skidding system, the only one of its kind in Europe, from Cana-dian manufacturer Hydra-Slide.
Lifting, transport and storage specialist RRS will initially put the product to use for installation of trans-formers at electrical sub-stations, but Paul Barber, managing director, fore-sees its widespread use on a variety of projects.
He said: “We had quoted for the electrical substation job, for which we knew the Hydra-Slide system was best suited, so in the short-term it made sense to proceed with the order upon award of the contract. Additional elec-trical substations, large machinery manufacturers and shipping firms will be future targets for the prod-uct, while I expect it to open doors to joint venture projects with our tier one partners.”
The HT300 hydrauli-cally powered heavy track skidding system, like its 500t capacity big brother, is one of the most cost-ef-fective and accurate tools for moving, loading or un-loading all types of heavy loads. It is frequently used to move transformers, gen-erators, compressors, pres-sure vessels and machines where a rigid, load carrying track is required.
Barber said: “We looked at all the models, including the HT500, but felt the 300t system was the most ver-
satile. We are hoping that moving forward we will have a requirement for a second, larger system but we will probably choose the 1,000t unit [the HT1000 Tri-Rail], capable of push-ing 1,000t while maintain-ing an eight-inch profile.”
Janine Smith, vice presi-dent at Hydra-Slide, said:
“We are very excited about RRS investing in the HT300 system. We know from experience how much this equipment can benefit their business. It will in-crease the number and type of projects they’ll be able to take on and it will set them apart from their

competition.”The 300t heavy track
skidding system is the only unit of its kind Hydra-Slide has sold into Europe. There are other models of Hydra-Slide skidding systems in the UK, while similar-sized and larger models are more prevalent in mainland Eu-rope. Hydra-Slide has Eu-ropean customers in Portu-gal, Georgia, France, Italy, Russia and Iceland.
“The product represents a great fit with our existing range,” said Barber. “We
are developing our proj-ects division to increase the services available to our customer base and are continually led by those customers into new areas. This system will reduce the manpower required to carry out certain lifting and moving tasks using tradi-tional methods.”
Smith explained that as RRS already has an experi-enced and qualified rigging crew it will take minimal exposure and training for them to be confident in the safe operation of the HT300.
She said: “Hydra-Slide skid-ding systems are designed for simplicity with the op-erator in mind. Reputable and conscientious transport companies know that safety is the most important aspect of any job.”
Barber said: “Before or-dering the system I spent a lot of time researching the different types of equip-ment available on the mar-ket to carry out this type of work. I had numerous conversations with Hydra-Slide, asking questions about the system, how it
worked, how easy it was to operate, how easy it is to maintain, their experi-ence in the marketplace and their engineering abili-ties. I was really impressed with the responses I was getting. Nothing was too much trouble. They have a wealth of knowledge and experience, and were hap-py to share it with me.”
The HT300 included 50 feet of double track and four skid shoes. The push cylinders and all connect-ing hardware came packed conveniently in a steel tool-box for storage. RRS also ordered an Enerpac 700 bar, solenoid-controlled split flow pump system, which will be used to op-erate the jacks on the skid-ding system.
Barber explained that the pump can also be used to operate the jacks needed to
lift the load to get the skid-ding system under the load. The pump is a synchronised system with electronic con-trol, allowing one operator to activate four jacks simul-taneously or individually. The synchronised system
ensures the pressure in each jack remains equal. The En-erpac pump can be utilised on a variety of jacking op-erations using Rapid’s pad, wedge and pulling jacks. b

Hyundai Construction Equipment Americas today introduced the Hyundai HL955TM wheel loader, the newest addition to its HL900 series of Tier 4 Final-compliant wheel loaders. The HL955TM joins a family of six other Hyundai HL900 wheel loader models the company began introducing in 2015 to U.S. and Canadian markets. The new model is among more than 20 Hyun-dai construction machines on display at the BAUMA 2016 international construc-tion equipment expo.
The HL955TM is the second Tool Master model to join the HL900 series lineup following the recent launch of the HL940TM model. It features Hyun-dai’s Tool Master boom design, with dual link-age for increased lifting capacity, improved load stability, rapid dumping capability and enhanced visibility. The HL955TM comes equipped with a standard 3.5 yd3 (2.7 m3) bucket, and delivers 28,219 lbf (12 800 kgf) of bucket breakout force. A Cummins QSB6.7 Tier 4 Final engine rated at 199 net hp (149 kW) powers the HL955TM.
Like other Hyundai HL900 series wheel load-er models, the HL955TM
includes Hyundai’s pro-prietary onboard weigh-ing system, which is ac-curate to +/- 1 percent. The system has automatic and manual settings for monitoring individual and cumulative bucket load weights. System measure-ments are displayed on the multi-function screen in the cab, providing reliable load-weight monitoring to support efficient produc-tion management. How-ever, there is no onboard printer to facilitate certified load measurements.
“The HL955TM provides the power, productivity and ease of operation custom-ers have come to expect from Hyundai,” said Corey Rogers, marketing man-ager, Hyundai Construc-tion Equipment Americas. “Like the other models in our HL series, the HL955TM provides an exceptional op-erator environment, produc-tivity enhancements and op-erating efficiencies.”
The Hyundai HL955TM wheel loader, like other HL900 series models, deliv-ers up to 5-percent greater productivity and 10-percent lower fuel consumption than previous 9A series models. HL900 series loaders achieve greater fuel economy as a re-sult of such features as Hyun-
dai’s Eco Pedal, program-mable auto-engine shutdown (available with the smart key option) and Eco Gauge.
The large, quiet cab on the HL955TM wheel loader includes a seven-inch (178 mm) interactive touch-screen monitor, enhanced climate control, fully adjustable and heated air-ride seat, central-ized control switches and significant in-cab sound re-duction. The cab has been re-configured for additional floor space and improved visibility. For added operator comfort, in-cab sound levels were re-duced by 3 dB, making this one of the quietest cabs in the industry. An optional Smart Start ignition system for password- or Bluetooth key-enabled machine start is also available on the HL900 series machines.
Ergonomically positioned operator switches, controls and other features make it easier to quickly access criti-cal functions. An improved rearview camera delivers higher resolution and en-hanced nighttime visibility.
The Hyundai HL955TM is protected by Hyundai’s industry-leading three-year, 3,000-hour standard warranty and five-year, 5,000-hour structural war-ranty. Hyundai also in-cludes three years of free access to its Hi-Mate re-mote management system which provides a variety of remote monitoring and di-agnostic services. b

Sandvik Construction is introducing a completely new tunneling jumbo to its extensive offering, the DT912D. Designed espe-cially for limestone applica-tions, this new high reach - single boom jumbo is completely self-contained. It is powered with a fuel efficient and environmen-tally friendly Tier 4 Final diesel engine and equipped with onboard compressor and water-tank for air-mist flushing. With the new In-telligent, state-of-the-art control system it will bring to customers high quality and increased productiv-ity in both tunneling and underground mine produc-tion.
The DT912D – a self-contained, air-mist flush-ing, diesel-hydraulic high reach single boom jumbo – offers high quality drill-ing in its most advanced form. Designed for fast and accurate drifting and pro-duction drilling of 12 to 125 m² (130 to 1345 sq-ft) cross sections, the 24-ton jumbo combines Sandvik’s novel technology, creativity and expertise with the vast ex-perience gained over the decades in the business. Being completely self-con-tained the DT912D is an optimal machine for multi-faceted operations that will take excavation efficiency
to another level.Greater drilling power
than ever beforeThe DT912D has boost-
ed performance written all over it. Featuring a 25 kW (33.5 Hp) high frequency RD525 rock drill for supe-rior drilling performance with high lifetime, as well as the most powerful en-gine ever installed on a diesel-hydraulic jumbo, the Cummins Tier 4 Final with 205 kW (275 Hp), the machine can bring a true boost to productivity with low fuel consumption. As a standard, the jumbo has an electric controlled drilling system with add-ed automatic functions, including one-hole auto-matics and is equipped with a SB150 universal boom for large, optimally shaped coverage and full automatic parallelism. In addition to face drilling, the versatile boom can also be used for crosscut-ting, bolt-hole drilling and extension drilling.Completely self-contained for flexibility and speed of use
Efficient 4m³ (141 cfm) onboard compressor and an extra-large 1000 liter (265 gallon) water tank for air-mist flushing allow the DT912D to operate independently from the tunnel or mine infrastruc-
ture and guarantee longer drilling period from one set up. This enhances the efficiency of the total cycle time and gives extra flex-ibility of use. The DT912D offers rapid, safe and bal-anced tramming thanks to its powerful, 4-wheel-drive center articulated carrier. Also the ITA tun-neling awards shortlisted, FOPS/ROPS complied cabin is ergonomically de-signed and well insulated to minimize noise and vibration; the noise level remaining under 73dB (A) at all times. As an option the cabin is also available with a cabin lifting system allowing even better vis-ibility to tramming and drilling. This all makes the new jumbo an enjoy-able workplace for the operator. Furthermore, the well-proven Sandvik Intelligent Control system Architecture (SICA) with comprehensive built-in di-agnostics and user-friend-ly controls ensures ease of use and maintenance.Intelligent drilling
To ensure the best per-formance, the DT912D of-fers different instrumenta-tion levels to choose from optimizing its performance in accordance with specific needs. These include the silver package for drilling angles and depth monitor-
ing, while the gold pack-age offers semi-automatic drilling according to drill plan. The platinum pack-age, being the most com-prehensive one, has the ad-vantage of automatic boom movements and drilling cycle. The gold and plati-num packages are integrat-ed with the Sandvik iSURE tunnel management tool for accurate drilling, charg-ing and blasting plans. In addition, the iSURE pro-vides useful data collection and analysis reports for improving the work cycle and process and can also be complemented with the new geoSURE rock mass
analysis and visualization system.Technical Specifications• Coverage area 14 000 x

The year was 1958. The National Aeronau-tics & Space Administra-tion (NASA) was formed. The iconic ’57 Chevy cel-ebrated its first birthday. And two, two-lane bridges on U.S. Highway 10 were built to cross what would be Interstate 75 in Bay County, Mich. That was the last time these struc-tures were replaced.
Nearly 57 years later, the two outdated spans were replaced by bridge contractor C.A. Hull Co. Inc. of Walled Lake, Mich. To safely handle the 31,800 vehicles per day (VPD) traffic load, mod-ern bridge decks resting on concrete I-beams stand in the place of the struc-turally deficient, two-lane bridges.
When the original structures were built in the ‘50s, traffic count was lower, making construc-tion of the US-10 bridges much easier. Today, more than 50,000 VPD pass un-der the US-10/I-75 inter-change, creating a bit of a challenge to build new bridges to span the busy interstate. “Time,” says Project Manager for C.A. Hull, Rick Smith, “was definitely the biggest chal-lenge affecting the lifts to place the I-beams on the piers.”
Work crews had just eight-hour overnight win-
dows over two nights to place the beams over the southbound and north-bound lanes. This meant that C.A. Hull had to pick the right lifting equipment to efficiently position the beams. For them and for the job, the cranes that were the right fit for the project were the Terex HC 165 and HC 110 lattice boom crawler cranes. Tandem Lift
Each of the 16 I-beams supporting the westbound and eastbound (32 beams in total) US-10 travel lanes measured 104 ft (31.7 m) in length and weighed ap-proximately 43 tons (39 tonnes). “C.A. Hull re-quired lifting equipment that offered the combina-tion of high lift capacity and compact size to meet the congested space con-finements of the job site,” recalls Vince Voetberg, Michigan Manager for Jef-fers Crane Service Inc., a member of the ALL Family of Companies, and a Terex
Cranes equipment distrib-utor in Michigan.
Smith reports consider-ing a couple of different alternatives for the proj-ect. One option was to use a large hydraulic crane to position the beams into place. Yet beam size and weight would have re-quired the work crew to reposition the crane mul-tiple times for load rating, based on radius, and the I-75 lanes would have to be closed before crane set-up.
“We also had to place the false decking and fascia platforms while the interstate lanes were closed,” offers C.A. Hull’s Project Engineer, Elias Motz. “We would have not been able to complete all the lifts in the time al-lotted to us using the sin-gle crane option.”
The other alternative was to employ a tan-dem pick using smaller crawler cranes. C.A. Hull planned to position one crane in the median sep-arating the northbound and southbound I-75 lanes, while the other would be placed adjacent to the abutment wall on the shoulder.
“In this application, it was far more efficient to use the two-crane op-tion in order to complete the lifts within our allot-ted time,” explains Smith. Voetberg adds, “This is why C.A. Hull is one of the largest bridge contrac-tors in Michigan. They consider all viable options and select the best alterna-tive to efficiently and safe-ly complete the project on time.”
Selecting the two-crane option, the Terex cranes were employed because of their compact size, system length and capacity, and ease of assembly/disas-sembly. The plan called for the HC 110 crane to be positioned in the median of I-75, while the larger HC 165 crane would be placed near the abutment wall.
To make the 90-mi (145-km) trip from C.A. Hull’s Walled Lake office to the Bay City US-10/ I-75 project site, the HC165 crane required eight truck-loads to move the carbody, boom segments and full counterweight, while the HC110 needed only five truckloads. It took C.A. Hull’s four-person crew
less than five hours to set up each of the two cranes and have them ready for the lifts. “The cranes are easy to assemble and dis-assemble, which definite-ly saves us money,” says Smith. “They are very good for bridge construc-tion.”
The Terex crawler cranes offer a hydraulic counterweight install/removal system to re-duce rigging time, which eliminates the need for and expense of an assist crane for assembly/dis-assembly. “The HC 165 crane can lift its entire 108,400-lb (49.2-tonne) upper counterweight stack into position in a single operation,” men-tions Voetberg.
Because of its narrow 18.6-ft, (5.7-m) width, the HC 110 crane was set up in the median of I-75. Crews installed 110-ft (33.5-m) of main boom and a 4-part line on the 110-ton (100-tonne) ca-pacity class crane. “The HC 110 crane remained stationary during the lift,” explains Motz.

165-ton (150-tonne) maxi-mum lift capacity, crews positioned the HC 165 crane on the interstate’s shoulder near the bridge’s abutment wall. The crews installed 160 ft (48.8 m) of main boom and a 4-part line for the project. “This crane crawled during the lift to make sure the beams were properly posi-tioned,” adds Smith. Lane Closure
After the cranes were rigged and final prepara-tions were made, it was time for crews to start the lifts. Freeway closures were allowed from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. the follow-ing morning, in which either the northbound or southbound lanes of I-75 could be closed. For con-struction of one bridge spanning the closed southbound I-75 lanes, eight beams had to be erected and false deck-ing and fascia platforms were installed within that eight-hour closure period. The remaining eight beams, decking and
Pembina Pipeline Cor-poration is pleased to an-nounce that the Company has received approval from the Alberta Energy Regulator (“AER”) relat-ing to the construction of two 270 kilometre, 24 and 16 inch pipelines between Fox Creek and Namao, Alberta (the “Fox Creek to Namao Pipelines”), as part of a series of projects that form the Company’s Phase III Expansions (“Phase III Expansion”).
Once complete, Pembi-na will have four pipelines in the Fox Creek to Namao corridor, with an initial to-tal design capacity across the Company’s Peace and Northern systems of ap-
platforms spanning the northbound I-75 traffic lanes were placed the fol-lowing night.
Both Terex cranes were up to the challenge, and all the beams were posi-tioned within the allotted timeframe. “The cranes offered very smooth and reliable operation, which made them the preferred machines for this job,” comments Smith. “The tandem lift approach was very efficient, which is critical when you are working with Interstate lane closures.”
To help ensure the false decking and fascia platforms were installed within the eight-hour window, C.A. Hull used the 70-ton (63.5-tonne) capacity class Terex RT 670 rough terrain crane to assist with the nighttime beam lifts as well as other lifting needs from the top side of the project. “The RT 670 crane assisted in formwork placement and positioning of the rebar,” says Smith. “We like the crane’s mobility for assist
proximately 900,000 bar-rels per day that can be further expanded through the addition of pump sta-tions to reach an ultimate capacity of approximately 1.2 million barrels per day. Each of the four pipe-lines will transport differ-ent products (crude oil, condensate, propane-plus and ethane-plus) creat-ing optimal flexibility for Pembina’s customers. The construction of the Fox Creek to Namao Pipe-lines represents a signifi-cant portion of the overall Phase III Expansion pro-gram.
“Our Phase III Expan-sion program is the largest capital project in Pembi-
work on bridge projects.” The Terex rough ter-
rain crane combines strength and power with maneuverability. It in-cludes a 111-ft (33.8-m) main boom that tele-scopes under load to ef-
na’s history and is poised to have a transformative impact on the future of our company,” said Paul Murphy, Pembina’s Senior Vice President, Pipeline and Crude Oil Facilities.
“Receiving the approv-als to complete the Fox Creek to Namao Pipe-lines is a major milestone for us and concludes the comprehensive and rig-orous regulatory and en-vironmental review that we had initiated over two years ago. Our company has devoted extensive time and effort working on this thorough review and I am pleased by the positive outcome,” said Mr. Murphy. “I also per-sonally want to thank all of our staff and external stakeholders that partici-pated in the hearing pro-cess and commend all of their considerable efforts and dedication through-
ficiently perform multiple lift tasks. “Operators can choose from three steer-ing modes to reduce turn radius, which is critical on congested construction sites like the US-10 bridge project over I-75,” says
out this undertaking.” “Further, we believe
the Fox Creek to Namao pipeline approval is en-couraging news for our customers, as additional capacity on our system continues to be in demand post our recent NGL, crude oil and condensate Phase II Expansion that went into service in 2015,” concluded Mr. Murphy.
Overall, the project is tracking on time and un-der budget and the Com-pany continues to antici-pate an in service date of mid-2017 for the entire Phase III Expansion pro-gram.
Pembina is commit-ted to working with all stakeholders by building trusting relationships and operating its business in a safe and responsible man-ner. b

“We made a good choice,” reported Vin-cent Caron, Production Vice President for Groupe Savoie in this forestry town of northern New
Brunswick.“I needed a new ma-
chine that could handle the cold,” he explained. Established in 1978, Groupe Savoie is a suc-
cessful family-owned pro-ducer of hardwood lumber and value-added prod-ucts, situated high in the north-eastern limits of the Appalachian Mountains.
Winters there can be bit-ter cold, and the region is famous for the severe storms that pass through from the Atlantic.
The Groupe Savoie
mill was already equipped with a log-load-ing material handler and with some older knuckle-boom loaders. But the firm had grown through a commitment to utiliz-ing modern technologies to maximize productiv-ity. So Caron and his President, Alain Bossé, searched for a machine to upgrade the reliability of their log-loading capa-bility.Efficient loading increases mill capacity
In March, Caron took delivery of a new Senne-bogen 830 M-T, a purpose-built 90,000 lb log handler featuring an undercarriage specially engineered for trailer pulling.
Caron and Bossé trialed several log-loading ma-chines before choosing the Sennebogen. “We visited a sawmill operating a Sen-nebogen 825 model, and our technician was quite satisfied with it and we
were very impressed with Sennebogen’s response time to issues. He saw good service support at this site as well as got very good feedback from some other Sennebogen custom-ers in Nova Scotia.”
In the end, Caron says, he and Bossé were pleased with the ma-chine’s fuel economy, traction, service ac-cessibility, speed, and strength. Its productivity in moving wood from the yard to the mill sealed the decision. “In effect, the efficiency of its load-ing cycles increased our capacity at the mill,” Caron said.Winter cold to Spring mud
The 830 M-T is equipped with 1¼ cord grapple. The yard some-times utilizes the machine to unload trucks, but its primary role is to load and pull a 36 ft. 3-axle trailer.

Hyundai Construction Equipment Americas today introduced a new model in its HX Series of Tier 4 Final-compliant hydraulic exca-vators – the compact-radi-us HX145LCR. It provides up to 10-percent better fuel economy and 5-percent increased productivity ver-sus previous models. The HX145LCR joins a family of nine other Hyundai HX models the company be-gan introducing in 2015 to North American markets. Hyundai was on display at the BAUMA 2016 inter-national construction expo.
The 14-metric ton (14 780-kg / 32,580-lb) HX-145LCR excavator is a com-pact-radius model, pow-ered by a Perkins 1204F Tier 4 Final engine rated at 116 hp (87 kW). Designed for working in confined spaces, the HX145LCR has a tail swing radius of just 4 ft 11 in (1 500 mm).
When equipped with an 8 ft 2 in (2 500 mm) arm, the HX145LCR achieves a maximum dig depth of 18 ft 1 in (5 500 mm) and maxi-
mum digging reach of 27 ft 3 in (8 310 mm), and pro-vides bucket digging force of 24,890 lbf (11 290 kgf).
“Like other models in the HX series, the new Hyundai HX145LCR exca-vator comes packed with high-end features,” said Corey Rogers, marketing manager, Hyundai Con-struction Equipment Amer-icas.
For example, the new HX145LCR excavator in-cludes as standard equip-ment an 8-inch (20.3-cm) interactive, adjustable, touchscreen cluster-moni-tor in the cab. Viewable on the monitor is the Hyundai-exclusive AAVM – or All-Around View Monitoring – an optional system that provides a 360°v-surround virtual operating view. Included in AAVM is the IMOD (Intelligent Moving Object Detection) system that senses and warns the operator when objects come within 16.5 feet (5 m) of the machine. The AAVM system helps make the Hyundai HX series among the safest excava-
tors to operate on any job-site in North America.
The Hyundai HX145LCR excavator’s redesigned cab optimizes space and opera-tor convenience through enhanced climate-control, reduced in-cab sound level, heated operator’s seat with standard air suspension and integrated console. Ad-ditional features include a Bluetooth audio system and Miracast wireless func-tionality for viewing a mo-bile device screen on the monitor.
The Hyundai HX145L-CR excavator achieves an overall fuel efficiency im-provement of up to 10 per-cent compared with previ-ous models.
An improved hydraulic system includes an inno-vative Boom Float mode for better grading control, Fine Swing mode for im-proved load control when swinging, and up to 13-per-cent faster cycle speeds than previous models. The HX145L also features IPC (Intelligent Power Control) computer-aided power op-timization based on load demand, and Eco Breaker mode for selectable pump flow and improved fuel consumption when work-ing with Hyundai hydraulic
breakers and many other attachments. The combi-nation of faster cycle times and more power result in productivity increases of up to 5 percent.
Enhanced reliability fea-tures on the HX series in-clude reinforced longer-life pins and bushings coupled with wear-resistant poly-mer shims and newly de-signed cab shock mounts with dual shock absorption for reduced vibration and noise and improved op-erator comfort. Serviceabil-ity enhancements include ground-level access to the fuel filter and convenient exterior access to the cab air filter. Additional guard rails provide greater safety while performing mainte-nance and inspections on the upper structure deck.
The Hyundai HX145LCR excavator is protected by Hyundai’s industry-lead-ing three-year, 3,000-hour standard warranty and five-year, 5,000-hour struc-tural warranty. Hyundai also includes three years of free access to its Hi-Mate remote management sys-tem which provides a va-riety of remote monitoring and diagnostic services. b

Hyundai Expands HX Series With New Compact Radius HX145LCR Model

It picks stock from inven-tory to fill the trailer with up to 40 tons, and then completes the cycle by offloading to a stockpile bunk at the mill.
With the machine’s delivery this past win-ter, operators told Caron that they were impressed with its reliable starts on the coldest days. The new unit had met manage-ment’s goal of reducing downtime. Operators also say they appreciate the stability of the 830, even with its hydraulic cab fully elevated. But the 830 real-ly showed its mettle when the cold weather abated, and the spring thaw be-gan.
“The yard is compacted earth,” Caron explained. “And it’s not a flat yard; we have some grades to climb to and from the mill. When the frost comes out in spring, the yard can turn into 12" to 18" of mud – last year was very wet and we had spots with up to two feet of mud. But the M-T just carried on. It’s a good tractor!”A reliable solution
To date, Groupe Savoie is confident that they found the reliabil-ity they needed for the mill’s operation. The mill’s own technicians service the 830 M-T but, according to Caron, “Our team got good sup-port for technical ser-vice. The Sennebogen dealer, Strongco, came here to train our guys. Our rep at Strongco, Alan Lindsay, is a very good salesman.”
Through its three saw-mills in the region, Groupe Savoie is producing 90 million FBM (213,000 m3) of hardwood annually. With the addition of the 830 M-T, the company looks forward to contin-ued growth and success through its investment in reliability and productiv-ity. b

The Sennebogen 830 M-T quickly fills a 36 ft. trailer with 40 tons of hardwood then pulls the load to the mill, powered by a purpose-built undercarriage driven with transmissions on each axle.
Reliable cold weather starts are just one way the 830 M-T helps Groupe Savoie to maximize uptime through freezing New Brunswick winters.
