Sport has been the winner this last fortnight. After a false start we managed to complete ourfaction carnival in blistery conditions last Tuesday. Thank you Mr John and Mrs Baldey for yourgreat organisation, it was lovely to have our own carnival again and the tabloid format was a hitwith kids and parents alike. Once again the P&C did a fantastic job providing coffee, cakes andlunches for all. Thanks to all of the P&C members and volunteers and those that helped with the

tents, PA and general set up on the morning.

Thank you to our Parent Helpers who helped make our day thesuccess it was and to all our parents for sending the children alongwith appropriate footwear. We did a lot of walking!! It was afantastic day that was enjoyed by all.

Room 1 & 2 - Lisa Miller and Liz Smith

On Tuesday Kindy and Pre-primary went to the Zoo. It was a perfect day to visit as it wasnt too hot andthe rain stayed away for most of the time. It was a very busy day. We had a Bush Party with our Zoofriend, Jen, where we read a story and dressed up as some of the characters, ate our picnic lunch on the

main lawn area and walked around looking at all the animals. Some of the animals we saw were Tricia theelephant, penguins, lions, meerkats and the orangutans. A few of our friends even visited the NocturnalHouse.

    Room 3- Bev Lane

Not long to the holidays (not that were counting!) We have beenworking very hard this week, skip-counting by tens, practising ourindividual spelling lists, focussing on the sounds made by the letter G,learning about sound waves and playing ultimate tag which is as muchfun as the name implies. Were still learning to use money so perhapspractising with change over the holidays might help. Speaking ofholidays, we wish everyone has a healthy, happy and safe break and lookfor ward to seeing you next term.

Our photo today is part of a poster we are making to remind everyone towear their uniforms to school.

On Wednesday, our work was zoo-related. We did maths

    problem-solving activities using zoo-animals, our problem-solving

We also wrote recounts of our

    Room 5 - Chris John

The last fortnight has been an extremely busy time in Room 5 as we wrap up our science unit on the states ofmatter by interacting with the most challenging substance to define: Oublek. Made of only cornflour, waterand food colouring, this slime acts like a liquid when left to sit, flowing freely into different containers andtaking their shape, but then acts like a solid under pressure, hardening when picked up, struck, thrown oreven smashed. The students found this out not only by feeling and hitting it but dropping tennis balls onto itand throwing it off the balcony where it shattered. Weve also been watching Finding Nemo to study thevisual effects film-makers use, such as gaze, salience (position and cameraangles), colour and tone, to make the viewer respond in different ways.

    Room 7- Brent Snook

This week we have been participating in the culminating activities from ournovel Storm Boy by Colin Thiele.

We watched the movie on Monday and noticed many differences between themovie and the novel, including how the characters were portrayed, particularly Hide-Away Tom, Storm Boys father. The students presented their Storm Boy monologues to the class on Tuesday. The amount of work that they put into creating their monologues and theirsettings was very impressive. It was so good to see the students really thinking about a particular eventfrom their characters point-of-view and also the thought they put into thecostume. We are all looking forward to our excursion on Friday to see the stageproduction of Storm Boy!

    Room 4 -Rochelle Reeves

In the last 2 weeks we have been doing the finishing touches to our Pre primary books. With Mrs Camp-bell, our class has learnt about waterborne diseases and have also been learning about percentages of wateron the earth. 3% of the earths water is fresh water and 97% is salt water. George the Quokka has been hav-

ing a fantastic time visiting our houses. He is currently visiting Karijini with Lara. Our Class has been get-ting more excited about the school holidays each day but we are even more excited about the Dockers in thegrand final on Saturday. In English we have been making our writing neater and moreinteresting. Room 4 have been having lots of fun and we hope that will continue in term 4.

    Athletics Carnival

Congratulations to all that travelled to East Hamilton Hill Primaryon the 25th of September to take part in the Interschool AthleticsCarnival. We ended up coming sixth overall and fifth in the teamsevent trophy but the highlights for us were our enthusiasm andnever-say-die spirit, especially the Year 6 team winning the Year 7passball event and the Year 4 boys pulling together to win their 4 x75 metre relay. Thank you to all the parents who assisted with

transport and support. Special congratulations to Mitch Hewitt,Year 4 Champion Boy, and Anthony Miojevic, Year 6.

Thanks to the P&C for the purchase of such a fantastic shade tentwhich provided plenty of protection to our students and supporterson this and all future events.

As you will all be aware we are in the depths of constructing costumes for the Fremantle Festival Parade. Most

headpieces are done, wings are happening and amulets and armour are in the works for many. Your child may

wish to collect useful items for these constructions during the holidays. (Generally junk from the recycling bin,

black or white). They may have also chosen to bring their headdress home to work on, have fun.

Thank you to the wonderful stream of parents that I have had working in the art classes, it is of enormous

benefit for the children to have extra adult hands. It encourages them to think outside the box with your careful

questions. They also have the ability to take on more complicated designs as they have an adult to join cable

ties, add on beaks etc. On top of it all they just LOVE having someone there with them.

Happy, happy holidays, if you are around during the holidays perhaps you will have the opportunity to visit an

exhibition or an art gallery. There is a photographic exhibition on of the Abrolhos Islands at the Maritime

Museum currently. The West Australian Art Gallery has the WESTERN AUSTRALIAN INDIGENOUS ART AWARDS

    23 August 2013 - 27 January 2014.

    Enjoy, Mrs Campbell.
