From the Principal - Fiona Kelly

Congratulations North Fremantle Primary School community on a great start to the 2013school year. The teachers and students have all settled in well to their class routines and ournew administration is finally open with just a few minor works to be completed.

There has been a few hiccups in our relocation, one of which is that our administration

(computer) server has crashed. Until it has been repaired we have limited access to theinternet and our emails, and no access to our financial or student records. Please bear withus until this issue has been resolved. It is for this reason todays newsletter is both briefand in hardcopy.

The co-ordination ofthree schools timetables has been quite tricky and for us to participate in this valuableprogram it has been necessary for us to change our assembly toWednesday mornings. Our first assembly is Wednesday 20th February. Kindergarten students will attend in semes-

Room 4- Rochelle ReevesYear 2/3 have had a great start to the year. We have been learning about Australia and its special days. We havelooked at Chinese New Year, Australia Day and we will be looking at other important events and dates through-out the term. We have also been decorating the classroom with our amazing art work. Check out the beautifulportraits hanging in our room

Room 5- Chris JohnRoom 5 is off to a flying start this year as we welcome the Year 4s and 5s back to North Freo. With Australia as our term

focus we have already mapped the states, cities and climate zones of our country in SOSE and begun looking at the bio-

logical systems of different Australian animals in Science. The students have made some fantastic Maths monsters that

they have used to show off their skills in manipulating number sentences. Each student also created a personal jigsaw piece

to fit our puzzle that represents both our individuality and place in the class.

Room 7-Monica Parkes/Brent SnookIt has been a great start to the year in Room 7 and the students are enjoying their new classroom (especially the air condi-tioning!). We began the year by working co-operatively to come up with our classroom rules and then creating posters toillustrate them. This year we are going to be using a variety of Thinking Skills in our learning. We have been discussing the levels ofthinking and have used them to write about our holidays. We first used an Elimination Draw (the Evaluate level of think-ing) to determine our favourite holiday event. We then created a Y-Chart to analyse (another high order thinking skill) theevent before writing about it. It was great to see the students publish their writing in a variety of ways such as recount,

    narrative, poster and poetry.

ACTIVE AFTER SCHOOL SPORTSThe Active After School program will be running again this term on Tuesdays and Thursdays, starting on Tuesday February 19th.Greg Turner from the WACA will be running cricket on Tuesdays for 7 weeks starting at 3:20pm, and Brent Hall from Fitness ResultsNorth Fremantle will run 4 sessions on Thursdays starting at 3:10 pm. Afternoon tea will be provided for students as usual. There are only places for 30 students, so please contact Chris John in Room 5 for registration.

Room 3-Bev LaneWelcome to a new year. Weve had a great happy, hard working and HOT two weeks. Everyone is re-membering their hats, water bottles and perhaps some fruit to eat in class for extra energy.

Room 2-Liz SmithWelcome back to school, its wonderful to greet old friends and offer a warm welcome to our new students -Christine Faida and Henry-Peters Frichot - and their families. The children are all settling well to the challengesf Pre-primary and weve had a busy and happy start to the school year. For all parents in our vibrant North Freoommunity, clean and empty cardboard boxes, meat trays, egg cartons, shampoo bottles etc would be gratefullyccepted for the children to reuse in junk modelling my supplies are very low following a big clear out at the end

f last year and the children are clamouring for this popular activity. Off cuts of wood, nails, screws, thick cardwould be very welome as Id like to get our workbench up and running. with many more projects to follow!

Christine has decided to sort herbears by colour.

Henry is writing a sentence in hisnew book.
