The NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety (NGC) is the mostly widely recognised health and safety qualification in the UK. The NGC offers an excellent grounding in the essentials of health and safety.

This course aims to equip staff responsible for fire safety to contribute to the conduct and review of fire risk assessments and fire preventive and protective measures within most workplaces.

Course providers are required by NEBOSH to take reasonable steps to ensure that prospective course members have a good chance of successfully completing the course. It is strongly recommended that delegates hold the NEBOSH National Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety, the NEBOSH International Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety, NEBOSH National Certificate in Construction Safety and Health or equivalentlevel3qualification.

Course Overview

The NEBOSH National Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety (NEBOSH Diploma) is the highest level of NEBOSH qualification and along with the International Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety is recognised worldwide.

The NEBOSH Diploma covers health and safety management, hazardous agents, and work equipment safety, and builds on the topics studied in the NEBOSH Certificate courses. It is also recognised as prior learning and therefore allows exemption to part of the MSc courses offered by many UK universities.

The qualification meets the requirements necessary to apply for graduate membership of IOSH (GradIOSH). With InitialProfessionalDevelopment(IPD)youcan then become a chartered safety and health practitioner, as a chartered member of IOSH (CMIOSH).

Training for Non-Licensed or Notifiable Non-Licensed Work with Asbestos MaterialMost asbestos work must be undertaken by a licensed contractor and the decision as to whether or not the job is licensable is based on risk. A contractor may be exempt from needing a license to work with asbestos, but some types of non-licensed asbestos work require notification to the Health and Safety enforcement authority. These works are known as Notifiable Non-Licensed Work (NNLW).

All non-licensed and notifiable non-licensed work with asbestos must be carried out with the appropriate controls and training in place, in order to protect those doing the work, and those in the area, from the health risks that exposure to asbestos causes.

Delegates are awarded a UKATA certificate after successful completion of the course.

Who is the course for?This training is designed for people who intend to carry out work with asbestos (that doesn’t require a license) and who may knowingly disturb lower risk asbestos containing materials. Workers in this scenario should already have received approved asbestos awareness training.

The Health and Safety Executive advise that training for non-licensed and or notifiable non-licensed work should be job specific and Santia’s experience in this area enables courses to be designed to meet this advice.
