JUBILEE YEAR OF MERCY This Sunday cele-brates Jesus as “the Good Shepherd.”

When announcing this Jubilee Year of Mercy, Pope Francis focused on Jesus’ “lost sheep” parable in Luke. “[Who] among you,” Jesus asks, “having a hundred sheep and losing one of them would not leave the ninety-nine in the desert and go after the lost one until he finds it?” (Luke 15:4). A reasonable answer? “No responsible shep-herd who wants to keep the

WORLD DAY OF VOCATIONS I have many wonderful friends that are priests. Some of them had careers before becoming priests. One of my priest friends told me that when he was a young boy, people would tell him that he would make a good priest. He didn’t understand why they would say that, and didn't put much thought to it. He said that one time someone gave him a clergy shirt as a Halloween costume. He wore it, and everyone that saw him commented on how good he looked as a priest. He said that throughout his life, God had been giving him signs, but he ignored them and brushed them off. It was not until he became a highly paid business man in a financial company that he decided to listen to God’s call. He is a wonderful priest loved by many. He is funny, easy going, a great listener and a very spiritual man.

My other priest friend, always wanted to be a priest. His mom’s best friend would bring her daughter over for a play date and he always wanted to pretend that he was saying Mass. He always knew that was what God was calling him to do. He is also a brilliant, caring, priest loved by many.

Another friend felt called since he was a little boy also, however his family wasn't Catholic. For some reason he was drawn to the Catholic faith. He is an artist and loved the icons of saints. He became a teacher , and later when his mother died he went into the seminary and is now an amazing priest.

I’m sharing these stories with you because one of the first questions people might ask you is, ”What do want to be when you grow up?” Some of you might be able to answer that question right away, while others might still be uncertain. Some people select a career because of the money they will make, while others select their passion. It is your life and God has a purpose for you in this world. That is why it is important for you to pray, because that is when you listen to God. Maybe, yours will be the story that I will share with others. The one where I will say, “One of my former teens is a magnificent priest, and serves his church in a remarkable way!”

Begins with 5 PM Mass, then to the Parish Hall

until 8 PM.

A REFLECTION FOR TEENS Do you know how to discern your vocation?

Do you know what God is calling you to in your life?

If you don’t, don’t worry about it. This is a sometimes a confusing process called discernment, a process that allows us to see what God wants in our lives for us.

St. Ignatius of Loyola says that we should not wait for a “big sign” because these are often far and few between. Instead, we can listen our hearts. Pay attention to what your heart is attracted to when prayer is going well and you feel close to God. If you notice a pattern of being attracted to one call over another in these moments of peace than this is a good way to hear His voice.

Our calling in life is a very important discernment we must all make as we move through life. Prayer and listening to God’s response will help you on your path to a fruitful, fulfilling and life giving vocation.

job!” Yet Jesus considers one lost person supremely important and suggests blaming the shepherd. The sheep didn’t “go astray,” the shepherd “lost” it. Thus, “when he does find it, he sets it on his shoulders with great joy.” (15:5) That tender image of Jesus adorns the simple cross Pope Francis has always worn, the Good Shepherd gently carrying the lost sheep home on his shoulders. During this Jubilee Year of Mercy, may we, who once were lost ourselves but now are found, join Jesus in seeking, finding, and gently carrying home at least one precious lamb.

encuentra?” (Lucas 15:4).
