LOVE AND SUPPORT FOR FAMILIES AND FRIENDS OF LGBT PEOPLE TUESDAY, APRIL 25 6:30-8:30 PM OCOTILLO & CHOLLA ROOMS Friends and families of LGBT people will be given an opportunity to share on how loving LGBT persons has impacted their lives. This group sharing will allow participants to listen, support, and learn in a safe and accepting environment. Understanding is always the beginning of emotional well-being and hope. Confidentiality will be paramount and pledged by attendees. Clergy will not be present. However, members of the Santa Catalina Parish, Social Awareness and Justice Ministry, will give supportive structure. We look forward to extending our support and care to all who wish to attend. EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES AT SANTA CATALINA We are currently accepting ap-plications for Custodian and Director of C.A.R.E. Ministry.

The custodian will perform gen-eral custodial duties to include cleaning and light maintenance of the parish and pastoral build-ings. This position is 30 hours per week. This position offers vacation, sick, medical benefits and holiday pay. The ability to speak Spanish is preferred, but not required.

Under the direction of the Pas-tor, the Director of C.A.R.E. Min-istry provides spiritual support to homebound parishioners as well as offering bereavement support. This position is 30 hours per week and offers vaca-tion, sick, medical benefits and holiday pay. The ability to speak Spanish is preferred, but not re-quired. Applicant must have excellent communications, hu-man relations, and interpersonal skills. Must have ability to travel locally as required and proficien-cy in MS Office. A Bachelor’s degree in Social Work or equiva-lent work experience is required.

Once a year the Diocese of Tucson, has a special night where teens throughout our diocese are recognized for going the extra mile. The award given to these teens is called the St. John Paul Awards. The Bishop is present at this event along with diocese’s many youth ministers. It is quite a major event; even pastors are invited to this event. I am glad to that Fr. Larry has been able to attend this award’s ceremony with me for the past four years.

The three teens from our parish that were recognized this past Saturday, April 8 at Our Mother of Sorrows were Ethan Oldaker, George Rivas, and Samuel Rivas.

Ethan Oldaker, is a senior this year. He is the kind of person that will always offer his help no matter what. Let me give you one example, of what he does. Ethan normally attends the 5 p.m. Mass on Sundays. As soon as he walks though the church doors Pat, the Sacristan, for that Mass is relieved to see him. She knows that Ethan is always ready to help her out especially since she is usually shorthanded with Hospitality Ministers. Ethan is just one of those people that is always ready to give a helping hand. We will miss Ethan’s sense of humor, thoughtfulness, and hospitable personality next year at Life Teen.

George and Samuel Rivas, brothers, have been Lectors at the Sunday 5 p.m. Mass for about two years. In October, they both helped lead a prayer at the annual Arizona Rosary Celebration. They also came to our rescue when we needed help for A Teen’s Interpretation of The Living Stations of the Cross. George was our reader and also composed the beautiful teen reflections for our stations. The young man that was going to play the part of Pontius Pilate, and the bad thief, had a tournament out of town the day of the Stations, so Samuel stepped in a week prior to the performance. He practiced on his own and memorized his lines. I know that this is hard to believe for those who attended A Teen’s Interpretation of The Living Stations of the Cross, but he only made it to one rehearsal. You never would had known that because Samuel’s performance was amazing! George is currently a sophomore; however, he may graduate a year earlier due to having enough credits. He is a very articulate, thoughtful, and talented young man. We are just grateful that he is not graduating two years earlier and that we have him for one more year at Life Teen! We are not as fortunate when it comes to Samuel, because he is

a senior this year. Though Samuel has only been with us for two years he has made a great impact to our group. He too is very talented and performed at our Teen Variety Show on Friday. We will miss Samuel’s compassionate and gentle heart, but we are grateful for the time he has been a part of our life’s journey.

I look forward to next year’s John Paul Awards Ceremony, and can’t wait to see who the next recipients will be!
