JUBILEE YEAR OF MERCY How fitting that the first Sunday Ange-lus of Pope Francis, who has made mer-cy his papacy’s theme, took place the last time today’s

Gospel about Jesus’ encounter with the adulterous woman was proclaimed. “Jesus’ attitude is striking,” Francis declared.

Continued on page 4…

M a r c h 1 3 , 2 0 1 6

Continued from page 3… “We do not hear words of scorn or condemnation, only words of love, of mercy, an invitation to conversion: ‘Neither do I con-demn you’ ” (John 8:11). Francis continued: “God’s face is the face of a merciful father who is always patient. Have you thought about God’s patience, the patience [God] has with each one of us? That is [God’s] mercy. [God] always has patience, pa-tience with us . . . understands us . . . waits for us . . . does not tire of forgiving us” if we return ‘with a contrite heart” (Pope Francis, Angelus address, March 17, 2013). Parishes preparing catechumens may proclaim Je-sus’ raising of Lazarus. Referring to Lazarus, and all those “raised” from the “death” of sin, Jesus defines the community’s “mission of mercy”— “Untie him and let him go” (John 11:44).

In Memory of

Our 2nd Annual Teen Variety Show is on April Fool’s Day

Friday, April 1 at 7 p.m. in the Parish Hall and it’s far from being a joke!

Lupita Parra, Director of Youth Ministry — 825-9611, x108 — [email protected]

On the weekend of July 15-17, many high school students from all over Arizona and other nearby states will be attending the Steubenville West Conference. This event will take place in Tucson, at the University of Arizona.

You have heard me say many times, that our teens are awesome! As awesome as they are, they are still learning like all of us. At this conference, they will learn what it takes to be great in this world of ours by experiencing a relationship with Christ that radically transforms lives. The goal of every Steubenville Conference is for teens to open their hearts to Jesus Christ who desires their lives to be fulfilling, exciting, and joyful!

We are hoping to have many of our teens experience this conference. The price per person is $250. To help with the costs, the proceeds collected from our Teen Variety Show will go towards this event. We are hoping that this will assist many of our teens to be able to experience this conference. We will announce other fundraising events at a later time.

We hope to see you and your wonderful families at the Teen Variety Show on Friday, April 1 at 7 p.m. No Joke! See you then!

A REFLECTION FOR TEENS In our Gospel today we hear the story of the woman caught in adultery. The Scribes and Pharisees wanted to condemn her. But Jesus disarms them by showing them that they too are not without sin. This situation shows us misery meeting mer-cy. The woman full of guilt and misery meets Jesus who is full of Mercy. We all have some experience of misery in our lives. Sometimes however people take their misery out on others and be-come bullies. It is often noted that people bully others because of they are jealous, angry, and prideful. But we must learn that this is not how we should deal with our misery. We must take our miseries to Jesus and let him heal us. Bring them to mass, bring them to the Sacrament of Confession, and bring them to prayer. Remember that this year is a year of Mer-cy. We can trade our misery for mercy. We can trade our sorrow for joy. We can trade all the unhealthy ways we deal with life’s miseries for the new life St. Paul preaches about. Think of what would happen at your school or workplace if eve-ryone took their miseries to Jesus.

Begins with 5 PM Mass, then to the Parish Hall

until 8 PM.

DO YOU KNOW ANY INACTIVE CATHOLICS? We would like to reach out to inactive Catholics and encourage them to come home to the Eucharist. The problem is that we do not know who they are or how to contact them. It could be your friend, neighbor, or relative.

Please help us out by writing their name and address below. During Lent, someone from the parish will send them a letter inviting them to join us for Easter. They will also be invited to attend a six-week series to help them come back home to the Church. Thank you for your assistance.

PARISH BEREAVEMENT GROUP Grief is a journey, one that is endured better when shared. God is with us in that journey and we can be the face of God to each other. With this in mind, our parish is presenting a 5-session for class those who have lost a loved one, be it recent or years ago. The class will be held on Tuesdays, beginning April 5 and ending on May 3, from 1- 3 p.m.

We will provide a safe and confidential setting in which information about the process of grief is shared, as well as elements of healing. The group will share experiences, prayer, and rituals. Gloria Brown and Judy Rossman, Stephen Ministers, lead the group. Registration is required and attendance at each session is requested. Call Judy at 825-9611, x104 for more information and registration.

Santa Catalina Parish’s Social Awareness Ministry is pursuing involvement in the Tucson Refugee Ministry which builds bridges between the Church and the new refu-gees from many nations who arrive at our doorstep in Tucson. 1000+ new refugees arrive in Tucson yearly.

Some of the ways we can help are:

· WELCOME PARTNERSHIP: Through a 3-way partnership between

our church group, resettlement agency & Tucson Refugee Ministry, embrace one refugee family for 3 months with our caring, helping hands through many opportunities: Welcome Basket, baby showers, etc.

· SPECIAL EVENTS: Volunteer at a family-friendly special event for refu-gees: International Thanksgiving Din-ner, World Refugee Day, International Kids Day, etc.

· RAPID RESPONSE: Helping with

one-time crisis needs for refugees.

· AIRPORT WELCOME: Church groups gather with signs, cheers of welcome and fanfare to greet newly arriving refugee families at the airport.

We are looking for parishioners inter-ested in helping with this awesome, caring ministry. A 3-hour training session will be provided. If interested please contact Judy Lynch, Refugee Ministry Chairperson, at 520-825-3013 or [email protected].

This year due to the drought in California, many of our Easter flowers will be silks; as Lilies are not readily available. The cost associated with silk flowers is higher than live flowers. We will have a limited

number of live flowers but your donations will be greatly appreciated.

Cut out and include with your contribution in an envelope marked Easter Flowers and place it in the Sunday Collection Basket or bring/mail it to the parish office. Please only put one name per form and print clearly so that we are able to list your loved ones name in our bulletin after Easter.
