better performance. Consult your computer’s user manual for directions. Don’t run other programs while showing the DSAT Tec Trimix Lesson Guides.

Windows 98, 2000, and XP offer a power management “Presentation Mode” that keeps the screen and hard drive running during a presentation.

On Macintosh systems, the DSAT Tec Trimix Lesson Guides often run better with the PowerPoint 98 Viewer than with the PowerPoint program.

For better performance on Macintosh systems, or if you’re having problems with distorted displays or missing pictures, increase the memory allocated to PowerPoint 98 Viewer or PowerPoint. To do this, click on the PowerPoint icon, and then go to the File Menu, select Get Info, and then click on Memory. Increase the preferred memory to exceed the suggested memory size.

To navigate through the DSAT Tec Trimix Lesson Guides use the “Navigation Buttons” provided. Simply clicking the mouse or pressing the space bar may not link you to where you want to be in the Product.

Pause after each selection to allow time for slide animation (bulleted text and pictures) before navigating to the next slide.

Since it will take time to present a slide you will need to activate your cursor to navigate to the next slide. Vigorously move your mouse around on the screen until you can see it and then click on the desired navigation button for your next slide.

Navigating the DSAT Tec Trimix Lesson Guides

After launching the Tec Trimix Lesson Guides, you’ll need to select which part of the program you want to view. You may view the program in a linear fashion via the Knowledge Development buttons or you may choose to visit a specific section of the course. This flexibility allows for a quick review of learning objectives before launching into an Assessment Dive, Practical Application, Training Dive or the Final Exam.

Viewing the Knowledge Development section takes you to the four knowledge development areas of the Tec Trimix course. From here you can proceed linearly through each section of the course. If you’d rather, you may choose to view specific sections of the course in a non-linear fashion. For example, viewing the Assessment Dive takes you to the objectives of the Assessment Dive located in Knowledge

Development One of the course.

The Practical Application button takes you to the Practical Application menu for the course. Choose one of the five

Page 6: Quick start guide

Practical Applications you want to view. You’ll find the objectives for each at a click of the mouse.

The Training Dive button takes you to the eight training dives for the course. Once again choose a training dive and view the objectives. This is a great way of

reviewing the objectives of the dive right before getting into the water.

Each slide has a reference (i.e., Knowledge Development 1-40) and convenient navigation buttons to help guide you through the presentation. Use the navigation buttons at the bottom of each slide; Next - go to the next slide, Previous - return to the previous slide. The Main Menu button brings youback to the Main Menu where you can select a different part of the program.

There are some calculations to be made to ensure safe diving practices. The lesson guides offer you the choice of viewing the question using either metric or imperial (U.S.) measurement formats. If you have a class using both measurement systems you can view both systems by using the navigation buttons provided.

Additionally, the appropriate section of the instructor guide outline is provided for you in the PowerPoint speaker note field of each slide in the lesson guides. For your convenience, a digital version of the DSAT Tec Trimix Instructor Guide, which includes the course introduction, course standards, course outline, appendix, final exams, answer sheets and answer keys, is also included on this

CD-ROM as a Portable Document File (pdf). Links in the guide’s table of contents allows you to quickly search through these files. These features make it easy to teach the course using digital resources.

Page 8: Quick start guide

How to Make Your DSAT Tec Trimix Lesson Guides

Display on a Television

To make a computer image along with your DSAT videos display on a television, generally you’ll need: A computer (PC or Macintosh). DSAT Tec Trimix Lesson Guides CD-ROM. A signal converter – a device available at computer stores that converts VGA/RGB

computer signals to television (NTSC, PAL or S-Video) signals. Devices typically come with all necessary cables and most can work with either a PC or Macintosh computer.

Some computers come with a video output connector built in. Please verify that this output will display the videos as some will not due to their hardware configuration.

Some laptops may not be able to display the videos on their own screen and an external screen at the same time. Try changing the resolution of either to match the other. If that doesn’t work, you will need to shut off the laptop’s display.

Video “A-B” switch – allows you to instantly select between two (or more) independent video sources.

Power bar or extension cord with at least three or more outlets. RCA phono cable to reach from signal converter to television(s).

Do you want to display your computer image on more than one television in your classroom? If so, you’ll also need a video distribution amplifier and more RCA cables.

For larger groups and maximum resolution and color saturation, consider using a video projection device. Local audiovisual companies can assist you with selection of a unit best suited to your needs.
