it can dramatically alter the perceptions and it is used for treatments and controling pain. Therefore, it is beneficial for hu-man beings (health psychology).

  • psychology & markeTing The essence of marketing is persuasion. To per-

suade someone, you need to drive them to think in a certain way, and more importantly to understand how different factors influence their way of thinking. These factors range anywhere from colors to voices. hence, an essential component of successful marketing is psy-chology.watch the next short clip to learn more!

other than things which are an absolutely necessary commodity in life, for example bread and water, you must give the buyer incentive and motive to buy it. nowadays, even the most necessary of commodities need to be advertised to beat competition from other companies selling the same product.

  • whaT is bipolar disorder? &whaT is schizophrenia?schizophrenia refers to a split personality or multiple per-

sonalities. no, thats a myth! people with schizophrenia are split off from reality, now that is the truth!Scientifically speaking, schizphrenia can strike at any moment during a persons lifetime!

do you experience mood episodes? do you have a decreased need for sleep, racing thoughts and grandiose thinking? Then you should thinking of paying a visit to the psy-chiatrist because you may be suffering bipolar disorder... re-lax, just joking (about that last part anyway)! it would be an unscientifically justified claim if one were to make such con-clusions without proper procedure.

  • optimists explain positive events as having happened be-cause of them. They also see them as evidence that more positive things will happen in the future, and in other areas of their lives. conversely, they believe that negative events are not their fault, they also see them as being isolated that have nothing to do with other areas of their lives or future events.

for example, if an optimist gets a promotion, she will likely believe its because shes good at her job and will receive more benefits and promotion in the future.

how to be optimistic?using a practice called cognitive restructuring, you can help yourself and others become more optimistic by con-sciously challenging negative, self-limiting thinking and re-placing it with more optimistic thought patterns.

optimism: Could it be scientifically or psycho-logically healthy for you indeed? stay positive either way!

pessimists think in the opposite way. They believe that neg-ative events are caused by them. They believe that one mis-take means more will come and mistakes in other areas of life are inevitable, because they are the cause. They believe that the positive events are caused by things outside their control and probably wont happen again.

a pessimist would see a promotion as a lucky event that probably wont happen again, and may even worry that shell now be under more scrutiny.

what this means understandably, if youre an optimist, this bodes well for your future. negative events are more likely to roll off of your back, but positive events affirm your belief in yourself, your ability to make good things happen now and in the future, and in the goodness of life. fortunately for pessi-mists and realists, these patterns of thinking can be learned to a degree.

  • what kind of music can make you happier? >> More than any specific type of music, music thats to your own taste is most likely to bring pleasant emotions

    >> songs that bring back happy memories may also work, if you reminisce while listening

    >> live music will also work, if you take your friends along with you

    >> failing all the above; if youve been exposed to western cul-ture: consonant, up-tempo music in a major key, is the best choice

music and memorieslistening to music activates brain areas associated with memory. Definitely, you have some songs that remind you of the good times a holiday, a particular person, or a special caf you used to go to. memories work by association, and when you hear these songs the brain areas associated with the memory turn on too, some-times bringing back feelings along with the memories.

positive reminiscence appears to be good for us. Its a strange thing to consider, but people who spend 10 minutes or so per day reminiscing about good memories of the past, became more satis-fied with their life in the present.

  • can Denial Be a good Thing?

After a major life experience, usually a trau-matizing one, some people experience a phenomena called denial. for example, if a persons loved one passes away, although this person is aware and constantly reminded of their loved ones death, he/she may continue to persuade themselves into be-lieving that their loved one is still alive. similarly so, after a breakup, some people are in denial and convince themselves that no breakup occurred and that the relationship is still intact.

living for a long period of your life in deni-al has harmful consequences, and in some cases can completely put your life on hold. however, re-searchers have found that sometimes, short pe-riods of denial after stressful events can actu-ally be helpful. They help you to adjust to the post-traumatic situation and accept its consequenc-es. short-term denial can help your mind to slowly absorb shocking information that could cause ma-jor psychological issues if it was absorbed faster. however, if you know someone whos been in denial for over a week, you should probably ask them to get evaluated by a psychiatrist.
