MESSENGER

Rev. Bobby Morrow Senior Pastor

[email protected]

On July 22nd I preached a message that was titled, Here We Go. It was an introduction to our Now is the Time Capital Cam-paign. The activities related to that campaign are really going to begin this month. The Campaign Committee, led by Ken Edahl, has worked hard to plan events and information that will maximize the participation of our congregation. We will give you every opportunity to learn all of the details about the what, why, when and how of this campaign. Let me give you a thumbnail sketch of what is taking place. We have voted as a congregation to begin phase one of our Master Plan. Phase One entails the renovation of the Williams Building. The thirty thousand square feet of space will be completely redesigned. Only the concrete and the steel will remain. It will look inside and out like a brand new building. Our own education leadership will help to design the inside of this space so that every age group except our Youth will be housed in the “new” Williams Building. When originally designed, this building was able to hold 900 adults in Sunday School. That means that it will easily handle our current numbers for Sunday School and provide for extensive growth. Our weekday ministry as well as all of our other programs will be able to thrive in this new space. The total cost for this project, construction and furnishings, is estimated at 3.2 million dollars. Our fund raising efforts are designed to help us raise as much of that as possible in three year pledges. We want to minimize the need to borrow re-sources. The more we pledge, the less our burden of debt will be in the future. Our prayerful desire is that we might, with God’s intervention, raise all of the funds needed and borrow nothing. That will totally depend upon our faithfulness during this campaign. It will clearly take all of us sacrificing together to make this happen. I take seriously Jesus’ words to us that all things are possible through Him. God wants His church Pritchard to not just survive, but to thrive. He wants us to continue to minister in this community. This campaign is about helping that to happen. We begin our campaign emphasis in Worship on September 23rd. There will also be an opportunity in Sunday School on the 23rd and 30th to hear more about our plans. You will be receiving in the mail a campaign packet that will walk you through all of the steps that you will need to be a participant. Our “take action” Sunday will be October 14th. This is the day you will turn in your pledge cards and make your commitment to this project. October 21st will be our first offering Sunday. This is the day that we will ask everyone to begin their giving. This will provide the seed money to begin construction. A Building Commit-tee will be appointed by our Nominating Committee in 2012 and they will begin work immediately. You will hear me say many times over the next few weeks that this giving must be over and above your tithe. Our first re-sponsibility is to bring the tithe into the storehouse so that ministry might be done each day. Without that support there will not be people to fill our new building. If you are not currently tithing, then the best thing you can do for this campaign is to begin that now. That will benefit the church even more than your gift to a new building. God has blessed us to the point that I believe there are adequate resources to support our ministries and provide the space we need to grow this fellowship. We are going to find that there is an indescribable joy found in giving generously to God’s work. There is one principle that is true and if you have not experienced it you need to now: You Cannot Out Give God! You give faithfully and watch the blessing fall upon you. I have seen it in action and I know it is the truth. If you haven’t seen that happen, then trust Him and give it a try. If you have experienced it in the past, get ready for a new blessing as you step out in faith and commit to this campaign. He will provide what we need. These are going to be some of the most exciting days in the past several years. Get in on the excitement. Step out in faith! You will be the one who benefits. In His Love,

Special Guests Bruce and Lisa at Pritchard September 29-30. The ministry of BRUCE & LISA has taken them from church concerts to conferences nationwide. They have led worship for special prayer services at the Pentagon, and have appeared with the ministries of both Chuck Swindoll and David Jeremiah. They have recorded for many artists and have been guests on numerous television and radio pro-grams, including Washington D.C.’s “Janet Paschal’s Amer-ica” radio broadcast. Bruce is a Grammy-nominated violinist and composer who has performed with Michael W. Smith, Natalie Grant, Ava-lon, Michael English, Josh Groban, Martina McBride, Alan Jackson, Natalie Cole, Ray Charles, and Michael Jack-son. He joined Casting Crowns for their tours of Europe, Australia, New Zealand and throughout the United States. Former first violinist with the Florida Philharmonic Orchestra, he now tours regularly with Christian artist Twila Paris. Bruce’s solo violin can also be heard on Veggie Tales videos, including, “Sheerluck Holmes and the Golden Ruler.” Lisa made her New York debut at the age of 20, toured as concert soloist and premiered over fifty works for flute. She is a Yamaha clinician and performing artist and the former professor of flute for Florida International University. Her amazing experience as the survivor of multiple brain tumor surgeries over the past ten years has given birth to a strong, new side to their ministry. Lisa has become a sought-after women’s ministry speaker bearing witness to the power of prayer and God’s healing. BRUCE & LISA have recorded several Praise & Worship CDs, an intimate Christmas CD, and “Lord of the Hymn” . Bruce and Lisa will perform for An Evening of Prayer on Saturday, September 29 at 6:00 PM. They will also share during our morning worship on September 30. Music Ministry in September The entire Music Ministry will resume its regular schedule in September. The Sunday schedule will resume on the 9th and the Wednesday schedule will resume on the 12th. We look forward to outstanding participation in all our choirs.

Tim Tebow’s Parents to Speak at Jackson Park Event We would like to invite you to a special event sponsored by Jackson Park Ministries. On Friday, October 5 at 7:15 PM, Jack-son Park will host An Evening with Pam and Bob Tebow, par-ents of NFL quarterback Tim Tebow. Pam and Bob will bring an inspiring message of their family’s journey of faith to encourage us in our walk with God. The Tebows worked as missionaries for many years in the Philippines, where they continue an ongoing ministry. The notoriety of the Tebow family increased when their youngest son, Tim, won the Heisman Trophy and went on to become the NFL’s most well known player. Jackson Park is holding this event to honor its partners and to introduce others to the work of this great ministry. Pritchard is proud to be a sponsor of this event which will be held at Elevation Church’s Blakeney Campus. Light snacks and dessert will be served and Tonia Ben-dickson, former WBTV anchor, will be the MC. Tickets are lim-ited, so order yours early at www.jacksonpark.org or see Bill Reid or Ron Sigmon. Notes of Thanks Thanks to my Pritchard friends! This past year has been a try-ing year for me. Thanks to each of you for your prayers, cards, calls and visits. I will be forever grateful. I am now recovering and would like to say thanks and God bless. Glynn Swindell I would like to extend my most sincere appreciation for all the cards, phone calls, meals and prayers that each of you have given me and my family over the last month. I continue to feel your prayers and God’s presence each day as I face this battle before me. Kathy and I are truly blessed to be a part of this wonderful Pritchard family of faith. Sincerely, Bob and Kathy Gore Pritchard Family, Thank you for the thoughts, prayers, cards and phone calls for me and my family since Mom’s passing. She truly loved the peo-ple at Pritchard and enjoyed coming back occasionally. She will be sorely missed, but we rejoice knowing that she is in the pres-ence of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ and reunited with Dad. To God be the glory! Yours in Christ, Perry Holland

Congratulations! Congratulations to Don Taft who received an honorary degree of Doctor of Humane Letters on August 27, 2012 in recognition of his longstanding support and leadership as a trustee at Wingate University.

With the close of each season we find the promise and po-tential that come with the beginning of a new period in the life of our youth group. Though we find ourselves bidding adieu to the summer, we should be grateful for what took place. There was much to celebrate this summer, including incredi-ble experiences in Honduras and at Camp Ridgecrest. Partici-pants in both experiences were drawn closer to God, and as a result we strive to more closely follow Christ’s way each and every moment. We also enjoyed wonderful times of fellow-ship while watching movies, enjoying the beautiful weather at the lake, and even rafting at the US National Whitewater Cen-ter. There was much that took place, and much fun was had by all. None of our summer events would have been possible with-out the generosity of our church. My heart is overflowing with gratitude for the ways in which PMBC continues to sup-port its students. This is always especially true for Camp Ridgecrest. Each year we have more scholarship requests than in previous years, and this year was no exception. Al-most half of our campers requested scholarships, and our planning team was very worried that we would not have the funds to honor all of the requests we received. The worst pos-sible scenario would be for us to be forced to turn a camper away because they could not afford to attend camp, and our scholarship funds had already been depleted. Imagine what they would miss! Thankfully, through answered prayers and generous hearts, each of our needs was filled by the members of our congregation. Your capacity to support the spiritual formation of our younger generations never ceases to amaze me. As we close the book on another successful summer, we begin a new chapter in the life of our group. And at the be-ginning of any good story new characters must be introduced. We will say goodbye to teachers who are taking on new and exciting leadership opportunities in our church, but we will also welcome new leaders. Most importantly, we are espe-cially excited to begin the new school year with a new group of rising sixth graders. We eagerly anticipate their addition to our fellowship, and we know that God will bless us all be-cause they have joined us. I am excited to watch them de-velop into committed Christ-followers as they move to deeper levels of their faith journey. At the beginning of this new school year, my prayer is that God will bless our students through their studies. I pray that they would encounter new teachings and have eye-opening experiences that allow them to see anew how amazing our world is, and how much the human spirit has to offer. I pray that they will be taught the importance of searching for the deep answers to life’s most difficult and complex questions. And I pray that they would bring inquisitive minds and open hearts to church, so that together we can explore the nature of scripture, the divine presence, and the life of righteousness lived through Christ. I am excited about this new chapter. May God bless us on this journey, and may God bless this school year.

Crop Walk 2012 Sunday, October 14th

Pritchard is going to set a new record for participation in this year’s Crop Walk. The Crop Walk supports hunger relief here in Charlotte and around the world. Charlotte’s walk is the larg-est in the country. Our Mission’s Committee has determined that our Fall mission project is going to be centered around helping to eliminate hunger. Crop Walk is one of the best ways to accomplish that goal. The walk will take place on Sunday afternoon, October 14th. We have set a goal of 50 walkers for Pritchard. We will begin signing people up for this event on Sunday, September 9th. We are asking each walker to raise $100.00 in support so that we can reach a $5,000.00 contribution goal. I believe this is easily possible for us. While we are focusing on improvements on our campus, we must never lose sight of the opportunity to min-ister to our community and our world. Crop Walk will help us to do just that.
