Hitt, 82, resident of Westover, widower of Betty McIver Hitt, died Sunday, Oct. 19, 2014 at Self Regional Medical Center. Born on May 12, 1932, in Clin- ton, he was a son of the late Floyd Eugene and Loree Simmons Hitt. He was a graduate of Spartanburg High School, was a 1954 graduate of The Citadel, receiving a Bachelor of Sci- ence Degree in Business Administra- tion, and held an Associate Degree in Criminal Justice from Piedmont Technical College. He was a United States Air Force Veteran. He was retired from the S.C. Department of Corrections, having served as a Captain at Leath Correctional Facil- ity. Upon retirement, Bobby worked at the Greenwood County Recycle Center on Deadfall Road. He was a member of St. Mark United Methodist Church and was a member of the Young at Heart Group of the church, the Mathews Lions Club and the American Legion Post No. 20. She was a thoughtful, caring and sincere person who loved her family dearly and always sought to uplift others. Mrs. Hopkins was a loving and de- voted mother, grandmother, faithful friend and devoted church member. She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Julia Campbell; two siblings, Faye Nance and Tom Campbell. Clarence Lee “Champ” Kelly COLUMBIA Clarence Lee “Champ” Kelly, a former resident of McCormick, departed this life on Thursday, Oct. 16, 2014 at Palmetto Richland Hospital in Columbia. Born on Nov. 16, 1931 in Mc- Cormick, he was a son of the late John and Mary Jane Wideman Kelly. He was married to the late Helen Wideman Kelly, and to that union a devoted daughter, Vanessa Kelly, was born. He was preceded in death by four brothers and four sisters. Clarence will be remembered as a selfless, caring person who always helped others. He was a member of Tranquil AME Church, where he served as church sexton and served on the finance committee for many years. He was employed by the SC- DOT and Satterfield Construction Co. He was also an entrepreneur of a small family-owned and operated store. Surviving are a daughter, Van- essa Kelly (Albert) Davis of Co- lumbia; one grandson, Albert “Tre” Davis of Columbia and one grand- daughter, Kinta Smiley (Anthony) of Youngstown, Fla.; and one brother, Henry Kelly of McCormick. Services were held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 22 at Tranquil AME Church in Troy with the pas- tor, the Rev. Jerry A. Aiken, offici- ating. Interment was in the church cemetery. William Lawrence Lane NORTH AUGUSTA – William Law- rence Lane, 64, husband of Kathy Woods Lane, died Sunday, Oct. 19, 2014. A native of Lumpkin, Ga., he was a son of the late James Ivey and Mary Ann Gilbert Lane. He was re- tired from CSX Transportation and was of the Baptist faith. He was predeceased by one brother, Jimmy Lane. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 26 at Mt. Arnon Baptist Church with the Rev. Robert Roth officiating. Interment followed in Swallow Savannah Cemetery. Survivors include his wife, Kathy W. Lane; two daughters, Charlotte Lane (Andrew) and Amy L. Ammons (Phil); two sisters, Gin- ger Lane and Judy L. Frances Gunter Murff GREENWOOD – Frances Gunter Murff, 83, resident of 301 Hunting Road, widow of George Livingston Murff, died Friday, Oct. 24, 2014 at Greenville Memorial Hospital. Born in Greenwood on Sept. 24, 1931, she was a daughter of the late William Floyd and Mabel Walker Gunter. Frances (Fran to some) was a lifelong resident of Greenwood and then Plum Branch, where she enjoyed years of retirement from Monsanto and the Estee Lauder Cor- poration, where she was a Regional Consultant. A member of Green- wood and McCormick Arts Centers, she was also a member of many lo- cal book clubs and animal rescue organizations. Her life was a bright light for her family and friends. All who knew her recognized that her joy and gratitude for daily life shone brightly through her countenance. A longtime member of First Baptist Church, Mrs. Murff recently joined South Main Street Baptist Church. She was the last surviving mem- ber of her immediate family being preceded in death by three sisters. Mrs. Murff’s greatest joy came from her faith, family, friends and beloved pets. She is survived by her only daughter, Rhonda Corley of Saluda, N.C.; and granddaughter, Miller Browder and husband Shan- non of Colorado Springs, Colo. Her face would especially brighten with the mention of her two great-grand- daughters, Riley and Carson. Her four cats were the joy of her retire- ment years, and she shared their an- tics through pictures and stories. A memorial service was held at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 28 from the Blyth Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Tony Hopkins officiating. McCORMICK – Deaconess Nevilla Tompkins Price departed this life Oct. 24, 2014. She was the last sur- viving child of the late Isaiah Linzie and Della Harmon Tompkins. She was born Oct. 1, 1920 in McCor- mick, S.C. As a child, she attended the New Hope Church School. She joined the New Hope Baptist Church at the age of nine, where she served faithfully. On June 7, 1939, Nevila Tompkins was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Felton Price Sr. and became a member of Mount Moriah Baptist Church in Plum Branch. She served as deaconess, Sunday school teach- er, vacation Bible school teacher, missionary, senior choir member and Heroine of Jericho. She leaves to cherish her memo- ries three sons, the Rev. Felton (Dor- othy) Price Jr. and Ezekiel Price, both of Greenwood, and Cleveland Price of McCormick; two daughters, Mrs. Cornelia Price Hill (sidow of Wil- lie C. Hill) of McCormick and Mrs. Brenda Price (Sylvester) Watkins of York; nine grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; three brothers- in-law, James (Jessie) Price of Plum Branch and Samuel Lee Price and Harry T. Price, both of Washington, D.C.; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Preceding her in death were two children, a daughter, Geneva Price, and a son, Daniel Price; nine broth- ers; and a sister. Funeral services were Wednes- day, Oct. 29 at 1 p.m. at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church in Plum Branch with the pastor, Rev. Melvin Gordon, and the Rev. Otis Cunningham officiat- ing. Assisting them were the Revs. Michael Butler, James Price and Ve- ronica Mars. Nevila Tompkins Price Jack Tollison Deason ABBEVILLE – Jack Tollison Dea- son, 88, resident of 401 Whip-O- Will Road, husband of Irene Wright Deason, passed away Monday, Oct. 27, 2014 at his home with his loving family by his side. Born in McCormick, he was a son of the late Franklin Pierce Dea- son and Gertrude Tollison Deason. Jack was a 1951 graduate of Clemson University. He was a re- tired owner and operator of Deason’s Flowers with his wife Irene for over 38 years. He was a United States Navy veteran. Jack was also very ac- tive in his community having been a member of the Abbeville Jaycees; Abbeville Lion’s Club where he was the recipient of the Lion of Year award in 2014; former chairman of the Abbeville Christmas Parade; for- mer chairman of the Abbeville Beau- tification Society; a member of the Silver Hair Legislature; and he was named to the Abbeville Chamber of Commerce’s Hall of Fame in 2000. Jack was a loyal and faith- ful member of Main Street United Methodist Church where he served on numerous committees within the church such as the Administrative Board, Board of Trustees, Staff/Par- ish Relations and Methodist Men of the church where he was president for several years. He was also the trip planner and bus driver for the Methodist Youth Fellowship and the Good Timers of the church for over 20 years. He and his wife Irene served as Youth Directors of MYF for over 30 years. Jack was the first recipient of The Lifetime Achieve- ment Award in 2006 given by the Methodist Men of the church. The family would like to send a special thank you to the staff and nurses at Health Related Home Care, Hospice of the Piedmont, Patriot Hospice and caregivers Linda Bur- ton, Patsy Boyd and Beverly Man- ley. Survivors include his beloved wife of 58 years, Irene Wright Dea- son of the home; two daughters An- gela Sumner (David) of Lumberton, N.C. and Beth Deason of Abbeville; one brother, Frank P. Deason of Stanley, N.C.; four grandchildren, Erin Kelly, Alan Kelly, Hailey Sum- ner and Joshua Sumner. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Pierce Deason and Bob Deason and two sisters, Lib Deason Wilkie and Betty Deason Jennings. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 30, at Main Street United Methodist Church, 300 North Main Street, Abbeville, with the Revs. Randy Taylor and Leon Thompson officiating. A member of Green-wood and McCormick Arts Centers, she was also a member of many lo-cal book clubs and animal rescue organizations. Her life was a bright light for her family and friends. All who knew her recognized that her joy and gratitude for daily life shone brightly through her countenance. A longtime member of First Baptist Church, Mrs. Murff recently joined South Main Street Baptist Church. She was the last surviving mem-ber of her immediate family being preceded in death by three sisters. Mrs. Murff’s greatest joy came

from her faith, family, friends and beloved pets. She is survived by her only daughter, Rhonda Corley of Saluda, N.C.; and granddaughter, Miller Browder and husband Shan-non of Colorado Springs, Colo. Her face would especially brighten with the mention of her two great-grand-daughters, Riley and Carson. Her four cats were the joy of her retire-ment years, and she shared their an-tics through pictures and stories. A memorial service was held at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 28 from the Blyth Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Tony Hopkins officiating. McCORMICK – Deaconess Nevilla Tompkins Price departed this life Oct. 24, 2014. She was the last sur-viving child of the late Isaiah Linzie and Della Harmon Tompkins. She was born Oct. 1, 1920 in McCor-mick, S.C. As a child, she attended the New Hope Church School. She joined the New Hope Baptist Church at the age of nine, where she served faithfully. On June 7, 1939, Nevila Tompkins was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Felton Price Sr. and became a member of Mount Moriah Baptist Church in Plum Branch. She served as deaconess, Sunday school teach-er, vacation Bible school teacher, missionary, senior choir member and Heroine of Jericho. She leaves to cherish her memo-ries three sons, the Rev. Felton (Dor-othy) Price Jr. and Ezekiel Price, both of Greenwood, and Cleveland Price of McCormick; two daughters, Mrs.

Cornelia Price Hill (sidow of Wil-lie C. Hill) of McCormick and Mrs. Brenda Price (Sylvester) Watkins of York; nine grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; three brothers-in-law, James (Jessie) Price of Plum Branch and Samuel Lee Price and Harry T. Price, both of Washington, D.C.; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Preceding her in death were two children, a daughter, Geneva Price, and a son, Daniel Price; nine broth-ers; and a sister. Funeral services were Wednes-day, Oct. 29 at 1 p.m. at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church in Plum Branch with the pastor, Rev. Melvin Gordon, and the Rev. Otis Cunningham officiat-ing. Assisting them were the Revs. Michael Butler, James Price and Ve-ronica Mars. The family was at her home. Services were entrusted to Walk-er Funeral Home of McCormick.

Jack Tollison DeasonABBEVILLE – Jack Tollison Dea-son, 88, resident of 401 Whip-O-Will Road, husband of Irene Wright Deason, passed away Monday, Oct. 27, 2014 at his home with his loving family by his side. Born in McCormick, he was a son of the late Franklin Pierce Dea-son and Gertrude Tollison Deason. Jack was a 1951 graduate of Clemson University. He was a re-tired owner and operator of Deason’s Flowers with his wife Irene for over 38 years. He was a United States Navy veteran. Jack was also very ac-tive in his community having been a member of the Abbeville Jaycees; Abbeville Lion’s Club where he was the recipient of the Lion of Year award in 2014; former chairman of the Abbeville Christmas Parade; for-mer chairman of the Abbeville Beau-tification Society; a member of the Silver Hair Legislature; and he was named to the Abbeville Chamber of Commerce’s Hall of Fame in 2000. Jack was a loyal and faith-ful member of Main Street United Methodist Church where he served on numerous committees within the church such as the Administrative Board, Board of Trustees, Staff/Par-ish Relations and Methodist Men of the church where he was president for several years. He was also the trip planner and bus driver for the Methodist Youth Fellowship and the Good Timers of the church for over 20 years. He and his wife Irene served as Youth Directors of MYF for over 30 years. Jack was the first recipient of The Lifetime Achieve-ment Award in 2006 given by the Methodist Men of the church. The family would like to send a special thank you to the staff and nurses at Health Related Home Care, Hospice of the Piedmont, Patriot Hospice and caregivers Linda Bur-ton, Patsy Boyd and Beverly Man-ley.

Survivors include his beloved wife of 58 years, Irene Wright Dea-son of the home; two daughters An-gela Sumner (David) of Lumberton, N.C. and Beth Deason of Abbeville; one brother, Frank P. Deason of Stanley, N.C.; four grandchildren, Erin Kelly, Alan Kelly, Hailey Sum-ner and Joshua Sumner. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Pierce Deason and Bob Deason and two sisters, Lib Deason Wilkie and Betty Deason Jennings. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 30, at Main Street United Methodist Church, 300 North Main Street, Abbeville, with the Revs. Randy Taylor and Leon Thompson officiating. Burial will follow in Long Cane Cemetery with Military Honors. Visitation was held from 5-7 p.m., Wednesday at Chandler-Jack-son Funeral Home, 208 South Main Street, Abbeville.
