Snurdbirds Scramble Last Saturday, we hosted the 9th Annual Midway Snurdbird Scramble, benefit- ting the Midway Snurdbird amateur baseball team. This years’s event was fantastic, a great crowd, a beautiful day, a great golf course, and the result was one big winner, the Midway Snurdbirds baseball team. Placing in the tournament was as follows: in the Men’s Division first place overall went to the team of Justin Day, Jim Day, Ron Litzau and Austin Pulju firing a 13-under par score of 59. The event featured teams and runners from 20 schools. According to UNC coach Steve Schreiber who said that most of the Warriors turned in personal records or season- best times. Monticello won the team title in the girls varsity race and Jenna Truedson of Bemidji won the individual medal with a time of 14:20.2. The UNC girls placed 15th as a team with Emily Keranen leading the way with a time of 17:20.5 to finish 76 out of 128 runners. Joy Haataja placed 86th (17:34.7) just a few strides ahead of Madi Lausten, who finished 87th (17:36.6). The rest of the team finished as follows: Andrea Korvela, 90th, 17:43.3; Jill Isaacson, 104, 18:02.1; Jen Stifter, 108, 18:11.3 and Sarah Kuismi, 115, 18:30.1. In the boys varsity race, Joe Klecker of Hopkins won the race with a time of 15:36.5 and led his team to the championship. The Warriors ran as an incomplete team. Ryan Johnson finished 102nd with a time of 19:24.4. Cameron Zeigler was 135th with a time of 21:48.3 and Don Wurdock finished 139th at 24:09.6. Thanks with smiles and appreciation … Midway Snurdbirds Baseball 9-19pd UNC Downed by USA, 41-6 By Roy Rudderforth The United North Central Warriors football team was at its best in the early minutes of the first quarter, scoring the first touchdown of the home-opener with Upsala/Swanville Area (USA), but victory eluded the Warriors once again. USA capitalized on a handful of UNC turnovers to secure a decisive 41-6 victory in Sebeka on Friday. Quarterback Brandon Junes completed nine of 14 pass attempts for 149 yards and one touchdown, but was inter- cepted three times. Tanner Schwartz was the leading receiver with two catches for 66 yards and one touchdown. Jeff Skoog had two catches for 50 yards. Keiler Skaro gained 25 yards on three recep- tions. Taylor Carlson had one catch for six yards and Stetson Burkman had one for two yards. Skoog paced the running attack with 92 yards on 22 carries. Tristan Kjellberg ran twice for 19 yards. Dylan Huttunen car- ried the ball four times for five yards. Bob Lusti topped the tackle chart again with nine tack- les. Huttunen had seven; Carlson, six; Skoog, five and Tim Weisler, five.

UNC Downed by USA, 41-6

best in the early minutes of the first quarter, scoring the first touchdown of the home-opener with Upsala/Swanville Area (USA), but victory eluded the Warriors once again.

USA capitalized on a handful of UNC turnovers to secure a decisive 41-6 victory in Sebeka on Friday.

Quarterback Brandon Junes completed nine of 14 pass attempts for 149 yards and one touchdown, but was inter-cepted three times.

Tanner Schwartz was the leading receiver with two catches for 66 yards and one touchdown. Jeff Skoog had two catches for 50 yards. Keiler Skaro gained 25 yards on three recep-tions. Taylor Carlson had one catch for six yards and Stetson Burkman had one for two yards.

Skoog paced the running attack with 92 yards on 22 carries. Tristan Kjellberg ran twice for 19 yards. Dylan Huttunen car-ried the ball four times for five yards.

Bob Lusti topped the tackle chart again with nine tack-les. Huttunen had seven; Carlson, six; Skoog, five and Tim Weisler, five.
