SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers)

Every year during the month of February, the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) organizes an event called BAJA, inviting engineering undergraduates from all over the country to participate in a

thcompetition requiring them to design, build and race an All-Terrain-Vehicle. This year was the 8 edition of the competition in the Indian chapter with the theme of “Raise the Bar”. The motto behind such a theme was to encourage students to incorporate high standard methods to build the vehicle to make it safer, much closer to an on-road car.

thAfter a gap of two years, this was our college's 4 appearance in the event under the name TEAM HAWK 4.0. The event is held in three stages. The first round saw the participation of 326 teams nationally. Having cleared this round with flying colors, the college was among the 126 colleges to gain clearance to manufacture the vehicle. The fabrication started in October and ended with the technical inspection in January. Having passed this round too, the team finally had the opportunity to showcase the capability of their car.

thThe event began on the 19 February at a special testing facility maintained by ARAI and Mahindra in Pithampur near Indore, MP. Throughout the four days of the event, each of the built cars was scrutinized on a number of technical and non-technical factors and points were allotted for the same. Each car was expected to undergo a number of tests, each testing parameters like acceleration, braking, handling etc. to score maximum points. Despite a hiccup in the brakes test, the college team

rdpassed all the rounds and even received commendation for the design report. 23 was a big day for all, it was the day of the final race- The Endurance Event, where each car had to do a maximum number of laps in the stipulated time. After having gone out due to a technical snag in the very beginning, the team car was back on track soon. The team driver, Siddharth Kotecha did an excellent job of completing the race with 25 laps, the winner having done 32. The team finished with a rank of 25, an improvement over the previous year's 33.

With the event going international in 2015, the stakes are high and the team aspires even better. Registrations for the team have already started and students from the mechanical, electronics and instrumentation department can apply. Log on to our Facebook page TEAM ENDURANCE RACING for more details.

No wonder our world is filled with amazing poets, artists and story tellers for our mother nature itself is an amazing story teller, with the sky full of amazing stories. With every civilization having one of its own, we have our star gazing club 'ANTARIKSH'.

‘ANTARIKSH' arranged this 'Star Party' in PIRANGUT, a place on the outskirts of Pune city. Fun began as soon as we got there. Our sky watching session was perfectly divided according to timing of stars showing up in sky.Session 1: Gazing at bright objects like our own moon!No wonder artists and poets in love draw and write about the beauty of the moon. Pleasant look and its brightness are simply mesmerizing. We also watched other bright objects like Jupiter, Sirius, Orion nebula and Andromeda galaxy. It's wonderful to learn about how science of astronomy has evolved, how universe has always been a topic of curiosity since human kind was born and how our ancestors watched and measured objects in sky without any help of advanced instruments. We learnt methods to measure approximate angle with our hands and how to check for direction without having compass. Session one ended with excitation in heart and brain. We had a lot questions in our minds which were answered during tea break.Session 2 (Mid-Night session): Stars continued to spread their magic all over the sky. We taught how to connect them and form a spell! Oh yeah indeed! We were all spell-bounded by the beauty of intricate shapes formed by connecting them. Signs of Zodiac, stories from Mahabharata and also some stories from Greek mythologies were really fascinating. And then the most amazing thing of every one of our lives happened! Sir spotted a SUPERNOVA in far away cigar galaxy. It was a beauty indeed! Really, the universe is place where even the demise can be so beautiful.Session 3 (Morning Session): Morning session came with excitement of watching Saturn and Venus and also some remaining zodiacs and constellations. Learning about gateway of heaven was fascinating indeed.Unlike ordinary nights, It was the night where we lived our dreams.

It's so true when people say life keeps surprising you. One of such amazing surprises came to my life when my friend told me about astronomy club in our college and the fun idea of 'SKY PARTY', a fun night under clear sky watching hundreds and thousands of stars and studying and imagining about millions.Vincent Van Gogh once said “I often think that the night is more alive and more richly coloured than the day.” One cannot really appreciate the truth in his words unless one has tried watching sky in the night, unless one has really tried to understand what each star up there tries to speak.
