7.  Looking  back  at  your  preliminary  task,  what  do  you  feel  you  have

learnt  in  the  progression  from  it  to  the  full  product?

FRONT  COVERS

•  Since  making  my  previous  magazine,  I  have  learnt  to  use  contrasHng  colours  and  bold  fonts  so  that  the  text  stands  out.  This  is

important  as  it  aJracts  the  viewers  aJenHon  and  allows  them  to  easily  read  the  cover  lines.  Whereas  on  my  previous  magazine  cover,  the

plugs  were  wriJen  in  a  thin  and  unclear  wriHng.  They  were  also  against  neutral  colours

and  therefore  did  not  easily  stand  out.

•  I  have  also  learnt  to  use  an  image  of  where  the  proporHon  on  both  sides  of  the  model  is  even.  Due  to  this,  for  my  final  product  I  chose  an  image  where  the  arHst  was  centered.  This  resulted  in  having  an  even  amount  of  text  on

both  sides  of  the  cover,  looking  more  aestheHcally  pleasing  and  containing  more

informaHon.

•  I  also  decided  to  create  a  meaning  with  the  main  image  of  the  cover,  a  technique  that  I  did  not  use  in  my  previous  task.  To  do  this,  I  put  my  model  in  shorts  designed  in  the  style  of  the  Union  Jack,  connoHng  what  the  main

feature  was  about.

•  One  thing  that  I  have  kept  the  same  as  my  previous  task  is  a  colour  scheme.  However,  as  my  other  colour  scheme  was  mainly  focused  around  shades  of  pink,  I  decided  to  use  the  colours  of  red,  white  and  black,  so  that  the

magazine  would  easily  appeal  to  both  genders.

•  Since  making  the  6th  form  magazine,  I  have  also  learnt  new  skills  on  PhotoShop,  allowing  me  to  improve  the  aestheHcs  of  the  cover.  This  includes  factors  such  as;  outling  the  text  to  make  it  stand  out  and  superimposing

images  on  top  of  text.

CONTENTS  PAGES

•  Since  creaHng  my  previous  contents  page,  I  have  learnt  to  add  more  pages  on  the  list  of  what  is  in  the

magazine.  This  is  to  add  a  sense  of  realism  as  in  reality  a  magazine  contains  more  than  ten  pages.

•  I  have  also  learnt  to  emphasize  the  main  feature  within  the  magazine  by  displaying  a  large  image  of  the  main  arHst  on  the  contents  page.  Whereas  on  my  previous  contents  page,  I  did  not  even  have  a  main  feature  to

emphasize.  AWer  research,  I  have  discovered  that  it  is  a  majorly  important  convenHon.

CONTENTS  PAGES  •  I  have  also  learnt  to  keep  the  colour  scheme  consistent  the  whole  way  through  the  magazine  as  it  adds  to  the  overall  house  style.

•  A  factor  that  I  did  keep  the  same  is  the  use  of  having  two  columns.  This  is  because  I  think  that  it  is  an  aestheHcally  pleasing  layout  and  is  easy  to  disHnguish  the  difference  between  the  page  numbers  and  images.

•  Another  convenHon  that  I  kept  the  same  was  the  use  of  a  logo  on  the  contents  page  for  easy  brand  recogniHon.

LIAR  •  Since  the  preliminary  task  I  have  gained  a  beJer  knowledge

on  how  to  apply  LIAR  to  my  product.  For  example,  for  the  music  magazine  I  carried  out  various  research  by  looking  at  previous  magazines  to  see  which  kind  of  language  was  used  to  suit  the  genre  of  R&B.  I  also  looked  at  and  created  my  own  reader  profile  (something  that  I  did  not  do  for  my  6th  form  magazine)  helping  create  a  true  picture  of  whom  my  product  was  specifically  aimed  for.  This  also  helped  when  considering  the  representaHon  of  the  arHst  within  my  magazine.  For  example,  the  6th  form  magazine  consisted  of  a  happy  looking,  well  behaved,  innocent  school  girl,  whereas  my  R&B  magazine  was  the  complete  opposite  as  it  consisted  of  a  rebellious,  seducHve  singer  with  hardly  any  clothes  on.

OVERALL  •  Overall,  I  have  developed  a  variety  of  new  Photo

Shop  skills  enabling  me  create  a  beJer,  more  aestheHcally  pleasing  and  suitable  product.  I  have

also  learnt  that  depending  on  the  genre  of  magazine,  the  style  of  images  taken  will  be

different  in  order  to  aJract  the  target  demographic.  This  can  be  seen  by  the  disHncHve  difference  of  images  from  my  school  magazine,  which  contrast  with  my  R&B  magazine.  Learning  new  skills,  elements  and  convenHons  has  also  allowed  me  to  make  a  Double  Page  Spread,  suited  for  my  genre  and  target  market.
