Preliminary exercise

The difference between our first preliminary exercise and our product is clear. We have been a lot more adventuress in our final media product and we’ve all developed our techniques in many ways. For example I believe that my technique on camera has changed and improved over the course of filming. I also believe that when it comes to filming due to the fact that we had a lot more time and there was a lot more potential when it came to creativity. Due to this we were able to be a lot more ventures with our shots. For example using POV hand held shots.

Briefs For our preliminary exercise out debrief was pretty simple and limited. It was a continuity task involving filming and editing a character opening a door, crossing a room and sitting down in a chair opposite another character, with whom she/he then exchanges a couple of lines of dialogue. This task should demonstrate- • match on action• shot/reverse shot • the 180-degree rule. Our main task had a lot more room for creativity due to the ambiguous nature off it. The titles and opening of a new fiction film, to last a maximum of two minutes.

The preliminary task was the first time I ever used the type of camera and the editing software used for out film, Premiere pro CC. Therefore I learned how it worked and what we could do with it in the process of creating our preliminary exercise which obviously helped me when it came to our main product.

For both our preliminary task and our main project we used match on action, shot/reverse shot the 180-degree rule. All something that we have now as a group become very practiced at doing.

Visual effects are something that we have put in our main task that we hadn’t used in our preliminary exercise. This is a skill we have all as group developed that has helped our main product look really good and really get across the feeling we wanted it too. Our aim was to make the viewer feel eerier and this is something we got across. This is something the music we put in has also helped to do, Again something that we didn’t have for our preliminary exercise.

We could of improved some aspects of our two minuet film in some ways. We are still new to this so there are some things we could improve with time and becoming more practiced. When interviewing some people on our film the thing that they have said the most is the sound quality isn’t great in some parts and the camera is a bit shaky at times. If we had more time I think we could of re-filmed those parts.
