I’m happy to present this issue of Let’s Talk, which features our new corporate name,

logo and colour. 2014 was an action-packed year for Federal-Mogul Motorparts.

We have a new name and corporate identity, we acquired Honeywell Friction

Materials in July to expand our braking portfolio and we had an impressive stand

at Automechanika 2014.

We start 2015 with a number of new projects in hand to support our customers.

We are introducing our new braking strategy which we will roll out across Europe.

We also have a new pilot project in France with the introduction of the F-M For Me

programme to reconnect with installers.

In this issue, we will talk about the BERU® winter campaign which was concluded

with a very exciting prize: a VIP weekend for two at the legendary Mille Miglia

classic rally in Italy! You will also find MOOG® tips and trick about the suspension

system, information about new training available through F-M Campus, as well as

a report on Rainer Zeitlow’s record-breaking Cape-to-Cape trip.

The coming year will be full of exciting opportunities in the aftermarket

and we look forward to enjoying a busy and fruitful 2015 with you.

With my warmest regards,

Olivier Legrand

A DYNAMIC AND INTERACTIVE STANDThe sleek and modern Federal-Mogul Motorparts stand at Automechanika was divided into three main islands. Our Light Vehicle engine and sealing island highlighted Nüral® Elastothermic pistons, Glyco® lead-free bearings and the Payen® green gasket range. A second island displayed our full Commercial Vehicle range, with a focus on our FP Diesel® heavy-duty products. Our third island featured Federal-Mogul Motorparts Light Vehicle service brands like Champion®, BERU®, Ferodo®, MOOG®, Jurid®, Bendix®, Stop®, Wagner™ and Duron™.

In addition to these islands, our technology cube screened videos of our latest technological innovations such as Ferodo Eco-Friction®, Nüral Elastothermic pistons and the 7-in-1 Multi-clip system by Champion.

We also set up a garage concept to present the BERU Glow Plug Tester, the Ferodo and MOOG axle workstation, the Engine & Sealing engine block and F-M Campus. It was the first time we ever built a workstation at a trade fair, and our garage concept proved to be a success: it attracted a lot of visitors and positive comments.

MEETING THE PRESS, OUTLINING THE FUTUREOn 17 September, we held our major press conference at the fair with the international media present. Our key speakers were:DANIEL NINIVAGGICo-CEO, Federal-Mogul Holdings CorporationCEO, Federal-Mogul MotorpartsMARTIN HENDRICKSPresident, Federal-Mogul Motorparts EMEARAINER BOSTELSenior Vice President & General Manager Braking, Federal-Mogul MotorpartsOLIVIER LEGRAND Vice President Aftermarket EMEA, Federal-Mogul Motorparts

Daniel Ninivaggi used the press conference to introduce Federal-Mogul Motorparts’ new five-element strategy:• Global expansion• Distribution and IT• Product line growth• Operation performance • Product differentiation and brand value

We welcomed thousands of visitors to our stand during Automechanika and they were all extremely impressed by its look and feel. We are already looking forward to making Automechanika 2016 an even greater success.

Federal-Mogul MotorpartsENJOYS A SUCCESSFUL AUTOMECHANIKA!

From 16 till 20 September 2014, we were at Automechanika, the world’s largest aftermarket parts trade fair, which is held in Frankfurt (Germany) every 2 years. It gave us an excellent opportunity to launch our new Federal-Mogul Motorparts name in the international aftermarket. The fair was also the perfect occasion to introduce Jurid® and Stop®, our two new braking brands.

Federal-Mogul MotorpartsGLOBAL BRAKING FOOTPRINT

With the acquisition of Honeywell’s friction material business in July 2014, we have extended and reinforced our braking offer in the aftermarket. The addition of the Jurid® and Stop® brands substantially strengthen the manufacturing and engineering capabilities of our current global braking portfolio. In terms of services, this merge joins the expertise of both organisations to better serve our customers.

ABOUT OUR BRAKING PORTFOLIO

Martin HendricksPresident Federal-Mogul

Motorparts EMEA

“The acquisition of Honeywell’s friction business substantially strengthens the manufacturing and engineering capabilities of Federal-Mogul Motorparts’ current global braking portfolio. This acquisition provides us the opportunity to bring together the best talent of both organisations to serve our customers better.”

Page 7: FM Let's Talk Edition N°1 - 2015 - EN

7

What is Federal-Mogul Motorparts’ braking strategy since the acquisition of Jurid® from Honeywell®?

Our premium brands will continue to be Ferodo® for light and commercial vehicles, and BERAL® for commercial vehicles. Jurid will remain a premium product in its current markets, alongside Ferodo, for both light and commercial vehicles. Bendix® is not a part of this arrangement as we only have the right to sell it until the end of 2015. We’ll be moving Bendix customers over to Ferodo or Jurid products. The entire Federal-Mogul Motorparts team is committed to making this a seamless transition by offering even better coverage, product quality and levels of service in line with our high standards.

In addition to Jurid, we also acquired STOP® and we will develop this as the competitive mid-range Federal-Mogul Motorparts brand in line with market needs for range, pricing, data management, service and support. In markets where Wagner™ and Duron™ are active, we’ll continue to ensure availability and support throughout 2015.

What are your key priorities in 2015?

We have different priorities for each of our different brands. For Jurid, we aim to revitalise the brand in existing markets and show customers that we’ll be investing Jurid as a key player in the braking sector.

With STOP, we’ll be enhancing our product range and coverage. We’ll add 130 light vehicle NPI pads in June, and a further 200 NPIs over the rest of the year. We’ll also extend the light vehicle rotor range, which, together with shoe kits and brake fluid, will complete the STOP product programme. STOP will be the mid-range solution for commercial vehicle friction products, and this will allow our customers to compete successfully in a fast-growing market segment.

In 2015, Ferodo will reach a new milestone by completing our braking offer with drums, calipers and cables, to be recognized as the full-range braking specialist. We will also expand our award-winning Eco-Friction® technology in the aftermarket. This means we’ll launch a full range of Ferodo Eco-Friction® brake pads. This will underline Ferodo’s position as a pioneer in the market and a company that is ahead of future OE trends and future legislation.

Why are you splitting the braking range into premium and mid-entry products?

To respond to market needs. Over the last decade, we have seen a shift in the market from premium to mid-range products, mainly driven by price. As Federal-Mogul Motorparts, we want to maintain a presence and compete in that sector while still retaining our quality standards, as brake pads are safety-critical products on a car. We will, of course, continue to push our premium brands, brands such as Ferodo, Jurid and BERAL. These will always be our core business and major focus, because it’s through them that we can guarantee the latest technologies and innovative products based on Federal-Mogul Motorparts R&D expertise and our leading position within the OE market.

Let’s talk with Silvano Veglia, Product Marketing Director Braking, about Federal-Mogul Motorparts’ strategy for its braking brands from 2015 onwards.

9LIVE JOURNALISTS EXPERIENCE DRAMATIC WET BRAKING TESTINGFerodo test drivers drove journalists from leading aftermarket publications on the test track in two identically prepared cars where they experienced both dry and wet braking tests, for Ferodo and competitor products, first hand. The results of these tests showed the clear superiority of Ferodo friction materials in both sets of conditions, with the most dramatic difference being seen in wet braking performance.

CUSTOMERS GET A PREVIEW OF 2015 DEVELOPMENTSThe customer group was from our partners, IFA ADI, one of the largest parts distribution groups in the UK. We revealed our 2015 customer marketing portal, our trade marketing programme and MAM catalogue enhancements to them, as well as providing each of them with a takeaway marketing pack. The event was a resounding success with excellent feedback both from journalists and customers, and demonstrated that Ferodo performs as well in the marketplace as it does on the road.

Ferodo braking event

A SHOWSTOPPEROn October 27th and 28th 2014, journalists and customers were invited to Ferodo’s Chapel-en-le-Frith factory and testing facility in Derbyshire, England. This event gave a dramatic demonstration of the benefits of OE quality parts and reinforced Federal-Mogul Motorparts’ expertise through vehicle manufacturer relationships, its OE pedigree, product development and world-class manufacturing. On the programme that day, we were given a factory tour, technical and marketing presentations and a tour of the technical centre which included an emergency stop dynamometer test.

“I was impressed by how enthusiastic everyone at Federal-Mogul Motorparts was about their product and heritage. Us petrolheads in Ireland should know how important it is to fit quality Ferodo brake pads which yesterday’s test clearly demonstrated.”

Pat Burns, Editor of Garage Trader Magazine and CarSport Magazine

“Thank you for a great day. The technical information presented was excellent. It’s clear that you have recognised some great opportunities from which we can mutually benefit. I will be taking a lead in getting right behind all of this great work.”

Tim Whittaker, Marketing Director IFA ADI

ABOUT BERU®

BERU®’S ‘LEGENDARY’ PAN-EUROPEAN WINTER GLOW PLUG CAMPAIGN HAS A CLASSIC TWIST

Page 13: FM Let's Talk Edition N°1 - 2015 - EN

13

A LEGENDARY BRAND WITH A LONG HERITAGEThe campaign revolves around the history of the legendary BERU brand, founded by Julius BEhr and Albert RUprecht, who registered their first spark plug patent in 1912. BERU used its expertise to launch its own range of glow plugs in 1929, which played a critical role in the success of diesel engines. Since then, BERU has gained a reputation for its innovation in ignition and cold-start technology. Today, the brand continues that legendary tradition using its spirit of invention and innovation to remain at the leading edge. “The campaign showed how BERU continues to deliver high-quality products. And with a focus on the workshops, the campaign presented a real tool to help promote sales and support to BERU’s key partners,” Carlos Manuel Garcia explains.

SUPPORTING BERU CUSTOMERS IN A CRUCIAL SALES PERIODThe campaign was specifically designed to support BERU’s customers during the crucial winter sales period. “Having a premium brand like BERU and a big manufacturer like Federal-Mogul Motorparts supporting the campaign, and helping the brand and the product reach

the entire market means a lot to our customers,” Carlos Manuel Garcia says. “These kinds of activities represent our promise to them. They are an excellent complement to our customers’ own promotional activities, making it easy for them to promote sell-out sales.”

A PAN-EUROPEAN CAMPAIGN WITH A LEGENDARY FIRST PRIZEThe campaign was promoted via personalised distributor microsites. Those included a monthly quiz in which participants had to answer a brand-related question and a subsidiary question.

Campaign rewards include instant prizes and local driving experiences with classic cars. The ultimate prize in each country is the January prize: a VIP Weekend for 2 at the legendary Mille Miglia in Italy in 2015. This is one of the premier events on the classic car calendar: it retraces the route of the original Mille Miglia race in a circuit through Italy, starting and finishing in Brescia. “The VIP winners could closely observe cars as iconic as an Alfa Romeo Spider, a Morgan 4/4, a Ford Mustang V8, a Jaguar MKII 3.8 or a Porsche 911 2.2. Being able to experience at this event and driving

these is a real privilege,” Carlos Manuel Garcia concludes. Like BERU glow plugs themselves, this prestigious prize reflects the combination of knowledge, quality and a passion for cars.

In October 2014, BERU® launched its ‘Enter the Legend’ marketing campaign in partnership with key BERU distributors in 6 different European countries. It will promote seasonal sales of BERU’s leading glow plug range. “This innovative pan-European campaign demonstrates that BERU is a globally recognised premium brand,” says Carlos Manuel Garcia, Regional Marketing Manager, Spain and Portugal. “It also highlights BERU’s brand heritage, which is linked to iconic classic cars for which only products of the highest quality are good enough.”

MOOG® TIPS & TRICKSSERVICING A MACPHERSON SUSPENSION SYSTEM

• Slightly loosen the bolts of the wishbone to release the tension on the suspension bushes. TIP: Place a transmission jack underneath the subframe. Safety first!

STEP 1: DISASSEMBLING THE SUSPENSION SYSTEM

These simple tips and tricks will help you fit MOOG parts better and more efficiently.

STEP 2: REASSEMBLING THE SUSPENSION SYSTEM

With thanks to THOMAS MORE Bachelor of Automotive Technology based in Sint-Katelijne-Waver - Belgium for their kind collaboration

• After removing the front wheels, disassemble the torsion bar linkage. TIP: Use a hexagonal wrench to prevent the ball pin from rotating within its bearing shell.

• Loosen bolt 1 in order to lower the front subframe wishbone arms. Remove the arms and replace them with new ones. TIP: Visit www.moogproducts.com to find the parts you need, quickly and easily.

• Install the wishbone arm and reassemble the suspension system. Always tighten bushes when the vehicle is at its normal ride height, never when the wheels are hanging.

• After remounting the wheels, perform a wheel alignment. You don’t want an unhappy customer returning with worn out tyres due to misaligned wheels.

• Before installing the wishbone arm, check the ball joint fitting for rust, dirt and deformation.

• A deformed fitting can lead to a damaged dust boot once the ball joint has been installed. When this happens dirt and moisture can penetrate through the damaged boot and abrade the bearing shell, which will result in premature wear. The driver will experience a vibrating steering wheel due to excessive play in the ball joint. TIP: Nuts and bolts are also subject to rust and wear. Always replace them with new ones.

EXPERT TIP

Thomas Houben

“Never use a torque gun when fitting new parts. Always use a torque wrench and apply the recommended torque values. With a torque wrench you are in full control of the correct values!”

IN THE SPOTLIGHT

Andy Wait: I use the programme in two ways as part of a training tool. Firstly, before I visit distributors to give a training session, I ask all participants to log on and take the induction course to get an insight into the brands and our history. Secondly, when I’m talking about brands to garages, I drop F-M Campus into the conversation and encourage them to take a look. Maybe it will lead to F-M Campus supporting an apprentice or refreshing an experienced technician’s skills. The best feedback I’ve had to date was a garage that asked a mechanic to take the Basic and Advanced modules as part of a job interview. The manager explained that he’d used it to get a better idea of the applicant’s level of expertise. I’d never thought of F-M Campus being used like that before.

Josh Wilson: Federal-Mogul Motorparts approached me because I work for Parkers Motor Services. We sell their products; and I’m still getting to know them and learning how to look them up. Federal-Mogul Motorparts gave me access to F-M Campus and, by completing the programme, I learned tenfold! I liked the easy-to-use system and straightforward answers. You just had to read thoroughly and use some initiative. Some were simple tick box questions, but others took further investigation, which helped me learn where to look for particular parts. I found the experience different from other teaching methods. I like to work things out for myself rather than being told the answer. This way I remember what needs to be remembered. I’d recommend F-M Campus to anyone who enjoys mechanics.

ABOUT FUN-EMOTION

After completing two world record-breaking drives, German adventurer Rainer Zietlow had his sights set on a new long-distance record. Following his first drive from Tierra del Fuego to Alaska in 11 days and 17 hours and his second one from Melbourne to Saint Petersburg in 17 days and 11 hours, Rainer set out for another long-distance record of 17,000 kilometres from the northernmost point in Europe, Nordkapp in Norway, to the southernmost point in Africa, Cape Agulhas. Unfortunately, through no fault of his own, Rainer was involved in an accident in Tanzania, but luckily no one was injured. This caused a 13 day delay while his car was repaired, but he still managed to complete the journey in a record-setting time of just 8 days, 10 hours and 26 minutes of actual driving time. Federal-Mogul Motorparts accompanied Rainer every step of the way, as his car was equipped with Champion® windscreen wipers and Ferodo® brake pads.

What were the highlights of your last trip?

We always laugh when we remember the police escort through Lusaka, the capital of Zambia. Two policemen were sitting above our windscreen and directing the traffic around us so we could cross Lusaka in 30 minutes instead of two hours. An amazing experience, to say the least! We also met a German guy during our reconnaissance tour whose truck had completely sunk in deep water. He had to dive in to put something under its tyres for better traction. Happily for him, the Chinese road construction company pulled him out! On these trips, we always encounter unforeseen events.

If you compare this trip to the last two, what were the main differences?

For our two previous trips, the preparation took us ‘only’ one year but for this one we needed

18 months. Africa was also much harder to drive in comparison to the other continents. You have to concentrate fully all the time and always keep your eyes on the road. In Africa, a lot of people live on the street so we needed to be very careful and adapt our driving style. And it wasn’t only human behaviour which made it challenging to drive there. In Ethiopia, for instance, it’s very cold at night due to the high altitude. Animals such as cows, donkeys and goats sleep on the warm asphalt road. As the roads aren’t lit at night, this can prove to be quite dangerous.

Was your car reliable under the extreme conditions of this trip and were you satisfied with the performance of the Champion wipers and Ferodo brakes?

Our car was very reliable. Luckily, it was equipped with the very best automotive parts. The Champion Easyvision wipers withstood even

the hardest of conditions. They were really put to the test during the rainy season in Kenya. We always retained excellent visibility which was vital in these conditions. As far as the Ferodo brakes are concerned, we could feel how outstandingly they performed on many occasions. You must always be able to rely on good brakes in an unpredictable situation. But in addition, specific conditions during our challenges cause a lot of stress on the brakes. For steep hill descents for example. We knew we could rely on the performance of the Ferodo brakes and always felt in control. We have used Ferodo brakes on all of our challenges and we have honestly never been disappointed by them.

What will your next trip be?

At the moment, we still have no idea what our next challenge will be. One thing we know for sure though is that we would like to have the same sponsors as they were very professional and supportive.
