HOW EFFECTIVE IS THE COMBINATION

OF YOUR MAIN PRODUCT AND

ANCILLARY TEXTS?

Page 2: Evaluation: question 2

Use of lighting Both the main product and ancillary texts use low key lighting with the overall mise en scene covered by darkness. This was done to represent the horror genre

and set the overall tone of the film in which viewers could relate to from viewing these promotional

products as part of the marketing process.

Images: Costume & Make-up

Both the product and its text share similarities in the

presentation of characters. All products show the characters

faces covered either by blood or smudged make-up. As well as

this, the outfits in which Charlie is wearing in the teaser trailer

and Emily and Charlie are wearing on the magazine cover

show them both to be in costume, wearing the same outfits in which they had on

during the photo shoot for the images.

Text

-In both ancillary texts, the title ‘Fearane’ is displayed with the same appearance; the font type, font size, colour and text editing. Due to them having been presented like this, allows viewers to have a memorable title of the film and being able to recognise each text in there different stages of marketing.

- Although still in a red font colour with use of editing, the teaser trailer presents the ‘Fearane’ title without a slant. This was done deliberately however to put special emphasis on the main product yet still sharing similar aspects to all ‘Fearane’ titles in the ancillary texts.

From looking at features used on both my main

product and its ancillary texts, the combination is effective as they are all synergetic. During the

marketing process, each stage is recognisable to its audience as they can relate to all promotional products.
