Evaluation Question 2 How effective is the combination

of your main product and ancillary texts?

Page 2: Evaluation question 2

Images I created an image that I wanted to use

on my digipack and webpage that would represent the main themes of my music video. For the image, I wanted to convey a narrative to complement our all narrative music video. I choose to conform to the conventions of the indie pop genre by producing an image that is representative of the band instead of having the band themselves features on the website and digipack.

Images The theme I wanted to convey

through my image was the characters transition throughout which is a prominent theme in my music video. I have represented this theme through a meal. I wanted to demonstrate separate characterisation of one character by the way in which two meals have been laid out differently.

Page 4: Evaluation question 2

Images One side/character is neat conveying the

character as tidy, could have connotations of being a females set up breakfast or connotations of perfection. The theme of perfection is made evident through the symbolism of a Barbie doll in our music video and therefore the neat side has these connotations. The other plate is messy, with ketchup splattered and crumbs. This could represent the characters state of mind as confused or

muddled and the characters personality.

Images

Both sides of the image individually represent the character and when the plates are placed next to each other there is a clear difference between the two. The image enables different interpretations to be made which can also be done for our music video.

Images For my digipack I took advantage of all the

sides of the cover in order to use these to show the progression of character from the commencement of the meal on the front cover and then the end of the meal on the back cover. On my webpage I also used the same image as a banner for the homepage and also as the banner for the other pages on the site.

Images The Home Page for my chosen band Dog Is Dead consists of the same image

that I choose for the main cover of the digi-pack. I thought that it was necessary to include this image on the homepage as it is representative mainly of their new video. I also thought it was important not to have a picture of the band on the website and instead a photograph that I had taken in order to represent their style of music of being slightly alternative/ indie pop. I chose to have this image as a banner at the top of each page on the site as it acts as an anchor to the website.

Images Overall the image that I created brands the media product across all three platforms. I

have produced an image which is representative of the music video in order to create a coherent link to the bands digipack and website. The image that I created compliments the band’s indie style as many indie music videos include a narrative and therefore I thought it was necessary to have a narrative for all three products. The design of the image that I created, brands my product.

Colour Scheme For both the front and back cover of the digipack I have used a red colour tone

to correspond with the red filters that are prevalent throughout our music video for two devils. The use of the red filters in our music video and then the red colour tone on our digi pack is alerting and signifies danger. This danger could be significant of the danger the girl has caused to him emotionally, the danger of the male’s characters transition or alternatively the danger of the situation. Furthermore I chose to use a continuous colour theme for the whole web page in order to make it look authentic. I decided that the contrast between the white and the black would be an ideal colour scheme as it is simple yet effective. The Main colours used on the webpage complement the main colours in the music video and on the digipack.

Font TypeFont: For all four sides of my digipack I have used a font on Coral

Photo paint called Avante Guarde. I have used a consistent font type for all of the writing on the album cover and chose a white font, to contrast with the dark background. I have also added the bands website link and repeated the band’s name and the singles title. When researching my chosen band 'dog is dead' I discovered that this font type was a similar font type that the band uses on the majority of their products. I therefore wanted to represent the band in the way that is typical to them. Furthermore, the bands name on most of their products is written in lower case and I therefore wanted to do the same on my digipack.

Font Type Regarding font type for my website I chose a fairly simple large font type

and used this font type throughout the website for continuity of my product. Additionally I chose to have the bands name centralised at the top of the page. I choose to not have this in lower case as I wanted it to be the central focus of the page.

Embedded ClipsOn my webpage I used embedded clips to showcase the

bands music. As a recent blog post on the page, I have include a link to the new video that we have created for the band with the post captioned 'watch our video for our new single 'Two Devils.' By having these links on the webpage I was able to showcase the music video on an additional product. The concept of synergy has certainly been met by having these links for the music video on the webpage in order to tie the three products together.

Embedded Clips

On the music page for the site I also included clips to the bands latest music and music videos. This page enables fans to access and sample their music therefore helping to promote their music. As one the top music video I linked the video that I created to help showcases all of the band's products on the website. The links from sound cloud also enable fans to click on the link and visit their whole sound cloud page similar to the videos whereby if they enjoy the videos they can visit the band's YouTube channel from just clicking on the video.

Genre Regarding the indie pop genre I have created a product which

conforms to many of the conventions of the genre. I have done this by not having the band featured in the video, on the digipack or website. Instead we produced an all narrative music video and therefore I wanted to the webpage and digipack to also convey a narrative. Although some indie band’s do feature in their videos this is almost always incorporated with some sort of narrative and therefore my group decided on having the narrative alone. Furthermore an indie band that I have been particularly researching throughout this project is ‘Bastille.’ For their products they use a white font contrasted with a dark background and therefore I decided to use this idea for my productions.

Music Video Digipack Website

In conclusion, I have created an effective image which I have used for my website and digipack. The image that I created is representative of the main theme of relationships which is prevalent in the music video. This therefore this creates a coherent link between all three products regarding narrative. For all three products I have choosen a set colour theme of red, black and white. The colour red has the connotations of danger which is alarming. This colour is represented in our music video by the use of red filters. We therefore continued this colour theme for our digipack too. I choose to have this with a red colour tone over the original image. The inside of the digipack follows a black and white colour scheme which is also the colour scheme used for the website. By using these two contrasting colours on the website I was able to create an eye-catching homepage where the main focus is the image that I produced at the top of the page.
