Message from the Principal Dear Parents/Guardians,
School Athletics Carnival
By all accounts the school Athletics Carnival was once again a huge success. Unfortunately I was unable to be there due to
prior commitments in Melbourne. I understand that students had a fantastic day where genuine competition and sportsmanship
were displayed all day. Congratulations to Mitta for their strong performance and a huge thank you to staff and especially the
parent volunteers for making the day such a success.
School Levies and Charges
School levies and charges for students undertaking programs at the College including instrumental music were distributed to
families via the post at the end of last term. School Council decided to refrain from distributing fees until final course selections
had settled. There have been issues in the past, especially at the Senior Campus with students wanting, or needing to, change
the course they had selected the year before. This, as you may well imagine, caused significant grief both at home and for the
administrative staff trying to ensure correct charges are sent home to families. We are hoping that by delaying school levies to
this time of the year that these past problems would be alleviated.
School levies and charges are as follows;
Prep to Year 7 - $120,
Year 7 and 8 - $210,
Year 9 Core subjects - $115
and
Year 10 Core subjects - $115.
The levies and charges are more than reasonable when compared to charges issued by other schools. Payment of school levies
and charges is a significant component of meeting a child’s education. We ask parents to make arrangements, as soon as possi-
ble, for payment at the College Office.
As an incentive to families to pay their levy early rather than later in the year School Council has agreed to put up a $500 Myer
Card as a prize. So, if you pay your levy before the end of Term 2 (Friday 26 th June) your name will go into a draw for a $500
Myer Card. The draw will take place early in Term 3 and the winning family will be notified by phone and through the school
newsletter. Please note that families of Corryong College employees are unable to participate in this competition.
Good Luck!
School Uniform and Jackets
We have had a couple of cool starts to the day this week and I have noticed that a number of students have come to school
wearing a variety of different jackets. Please note that the wearing of non-school approved jackets is not acceptable and does
not conform to our school uniform policy!
Our school uniform policy is quite clear, a copy is included in every child’s School Planner, all items of clothing, including
shoes, must comply with the items described in the policy. The policy also states that any layers worn underneath uniform for
warmth in the colder months are to remain invisible and students, in general, comply with this aspect of the uniform policy
extremely well.
In 2008, School Council phased in a blue jacket to be worn over the school jumper during the winter months of the year. These
school jackets have been on sale for $35.00 from the General Office since 2008 and are made of warm polar fleece and have a
full frontal zip. Only the School Council approved jacket is to be worn as a student’s outer layer.
I would like to take this opportunity to also remind parents that if their child is unable to attend school in full school uniform
that they should supply a note for their child to show to their form teacher first thing in the morning. Thank you for your sup-
port in this matter.
Tony Valente (Principal)

Athletics 2015—School Captains Report (Nick Bond & Eden Cook)
Hello everyone, what a big day we had on Wednesday after another extremely successful House Athletics Carnival. First off, we would
like to congratulate everyone who went to the Athletics and participated. It was amazing to see everyone running, throwing and jumping
for their houses. Also a big thanks to all the marshals and teachers who made sure the events ran nice and smoothly. Thanks to the people
in the canteen, those who cooked sausages and the guys who made drinks, donating their proceeds to the Angelmans Foundation. Also
for the kids and teachers who donated money in the ‘Revenge is Sweet’ event, with all money going towards a school project which is
coming up later in the year. And last of all, a big thank you to Wazza and his helpers for organising the day, without them, these days
couldn’t possibly run as well as they do.

Connors of Victoria Police Wangaratta. As part of her prize,
Georgia was allowed to go for a ride in a Highway Patrol Car
with Sgt Connors.

“Safety in Schools” competition ran by WAW & the Victorian Police.
Year 11/12 Melbourne Excursion:
Last Wednesday/Thursday and Friday eager Year 11 students, and the Vis Com/Studio Arts/Product Design and Technology students
left Corryong at the early hour of 6am bound for Melbourne. Packed and ready to attend various lectures, workshops and tutorials in
their specific learning areas as well as experience the theatre, sports venues and of course shopping!
Year 11s had a guided tour of The MCG with an interactive sports workshop at the end of the tour. Then went on to shifting gear at the
NGV where they were presented with 23 of Australia’s most iconic vehicles.
The Studio Arts Year 12s went to the National Gallery of Victoria to view the Top Arts folios from the cream of 2014 VCE students and
a lecture for folio preparation. They followed this with gelato, a walk through a highly creative and colourful graphited laneway and a
browse through fabric and art supply stores. Other dedicated students participated in a tour at RMIT University and got a taste of Uni
culture.
After checking into the Miami Hotel students changed for the evening and boarded the bus back to the city. After a quick bite to eat they
entered the wonderful world of Strictly Ballroom at Her Majesty’s Theatre. The show was jam packed with bright colours, feathers and
stilettos, singing, dancing and effective sets. Back to Miami hotel at 11:15am to get some shut eye for a massive new day.
Hospitality students were first out of bed and left for breakfast at 6:45am. Design students had a bit more shut eye and headed off at
7:45am to find some breaky and navigate their own way to the Melbourne Museum.
The Hospitality students spent their day at William Angliss. It was here they learnt to perfect their coffee skills and understand what it
takes to get the perfect grind.
The rest of the Yr 11’s and Yr 12 Design students attended a lecture on the Vis Com study design and listened to a real life, award win-
ning Architect; Kimberly Pannan explain her profession.
Students then viewed the Top Designs exhibition. This is the folio and production work for Visual Communications/Product Design and
Technology in Metal, Textiles, and Wood from the top 2014 VCE students. Some fantastic hints were gained as well as being in awe of
what some students have achieved in the Year 12.
The students were let loose for lunch (Harry M, Harry P, Coop and Skeet even managed a free box of chocolates for completing a sur-
vey) and then made their way to Whitehouse Institute of Design to be a part of a workshop in perspective drawing. Each student devel-
oped their skills in interior drawing of a bedroom and practiced their rendering techniques. Once this was complete there was the much
anticipated FREE TIME in the city! It was pleasing to watch as small groups confidently left their teachers’ for some independent time
in the big smoke.
Later in the afternoon saw the students utilising their map reading skills to take public transport out to Glen Iris where they caught up
with the Hospo students to do a group session at a trampoline warehouse called Bounce. Some fantastic flips into gigantic air cushions
and up the rubber walls were seen! Even trampoline Dodgeball was played.
From Bounce we went to Melbourne Central for dinner followed by the choice of 2 action packed movies “Insurgent” or ‘Furious 7”-
both were highly recommended. Both groups made it home to the Miami hotel by 12.30, and were all fast asleep shortly after.
Hospitality students started the day early as they were doing breakfast at the restaurant Cummulus Inc. The students got to experience a
wonderful breakfast in a buzzing, packed restaurant and admire the skills of the staff.
The other Year 11s and 12s got to have a boring breakfast, but more time in bed! Off on the bus and out to Elsternwick to meet the
Hospo students for an eye opening tour through the Jewish Holocaust Museum.
Meanwhile the Year 12s had a fashion designer take them through a design studio (The Social Studio) with interesting garments and
industrial equipment. The students also gained valuable insight into the jewellery and printing industry by visiting various stores in Col-
lingwood (and Mrs Nankervis’s effective questioning skills).
Students gathered a quick lunch as they navigated their way into the city to the Melbourne Town Hall for “Class Clowns”. Fresh, funny
and fearless, this comedy competition brings together teenage state finalists from around the country to bring on the jokes and battle it
out for $2500. Students laughed throughout the show and enjoyed a mini dance party with comedy duo Die Roten Punkte and were
lucky enough to see well-known comedian Andy Saunders and dancers Djuki Mala.
When we walked out of the show the rain had begun, just in time for our last commute through the city to meet Humps and get comfy on
the bus. There were Dvds on the bus home for those who were awake, Maccas in Glenrowan and back to Corryong at 10:05pm.
Thankyou to Pete Humphrey for his patience and driving skills. Thankyou to the staff who attended and organised the trip ( Helen Mar-
shall/Linda Nankervis/Marcie Venturato/Christie Ingle). A big thankyou to the students who were so well behaved and a credit to them-
selves/their parents and the school. Well done!
CORRYONG COLLEGE BOOKFAIR—To help celebrate National
Family Reading Month in May, we are holding our annual Book Fair
with the theme—Kings, Queens and Castles: Enter the Kingdom of
Books!!
The Bookfair will be running @ the Junior Campus on Tuesday 11th
May, Wed 12th & Thursday 13th of May after school from 3.30pm
until 4pm. The Senior Campus Book Fair will be held @ lunchtime
from Tuesday 11th May until Friday 14th May
We are getting excited about reading books about Kings, Queens &
Castels and entering the Kingdom of books!!
The day of the Athletic Sports Carnival, Niam and Jordanne had to persist with incredibly
windy conditions which blew cups away, knocked extractions over, ripped orders off the ma-
chine, knocked over milk, rocked the trailer. AND the milk man was late!!@@. Throughout
it all they were ably assisted by Kayla who made many a trip to the canteen on their behalf
looking for milk, taking orders, chasing up what ever became air borne after another gust of
wind. However, the 3 VET Hospitality students can be really proud of their determination to
“stick it out” and another $276 was raised for Angelman’s Syndrome Research.
A VERY SPECIAL THANKYOU TO ELLIE, BELLE GALBRIATH, KIRA, AILISH, AND MR CARTER FOR WORKING SATURDAY AT THE FUND RAISER FOR ANGELEMAN’S SYNDROME. $376 WAS RAISED BY CORRYONG COLLEGE X-VET HOSPIITALITY STUDENTS. NOT ONLY DID ALL STUDENTS AND STAFF MAKE COFFEE THEY ALSO CONTRIBUTED TO THE BURPEE MARATHON, SOME LEARNING FOR THE FIRST TIME WHAT A BURPEE WAS. THANKS ALSO GOES TO LEONIE WILSON WHO MADE YO’YO’S, APPLE CAKES, AND ORANGE AND POPPY SEED MUFFINS. LEONIE’S EFFORT CONTRIBUT-ED ABOUT $100 TO THE ABOVE AMOUNT.
