No. 02 6076 1849 www.corryong.vic.edu.au [email protected] Dear Parents & Carers, Today you would have received your childs report that indicates their achievements and areas for improvement or goals to work towards. Remember to celebrate your childs effort towards their personal goals and learning levels. Please be mindful that for some children, receiving reports can be a stressful time. Remind your children that we are all on our own learning journey and all at different stages of that learning journey. If you have any questions, please ensure you follow these up on the return of next term. Enclosed in the Year 5-12 reports are the three policies; Responsible and Acceptable Use Policy for Mobile Devices, the Attendance and Leave Policy and Students Driving Cars policy. Please ensure you read the cover letter and all policies enclosed to ensure we are all implementing consistent procedures. This week we say a temporary goodbye to Ms Marcie Venturato whom will commence maternity leave. We wish all the very best to Marcie and her partner Nat, as they start a new chapter in their lives as very soon-to- be parents. On top of the staff morning tea held for Marcie, her Year 9 English class gave her a beautiful best wishesparty and really demonstrated the respect and rapport that has been established. Please join me in wishing Marcie all the very best during this exciting time. This week also, Year 5/6 met their soon to be new classroom teacher; Ms Kinjal Kaneria who joined us Wednesday and Thursday. Kinjal will be moving up to Corryong during the holidays, however, she has already started her planning with Ms Kelly Jarvis this week as they work through exciting activities for Term 3. Please join me in making Kinjal welcome to our amazing community. The above change may have encouraged questions; where is Ms Emily Bowman? Emily will definitely be continuing on in our college staff, however, her role will be in the arts to replace Marcie s maternity leave. Whilst Ms Bowman is excited for this role, it was with much deliberation and with a heavy heart moving from the 5/6 area that she agreed on the move. Luckily our 5/6s will still very much, have Ms Bowman in close vicinity. Junior School Celebrate Science The junior campus students and staff put on a great display at their Science Fair to celebrate their learnings around an array of science concepts; geology, erosion, precipitation, technology and many more. The students set up their science stations and ran learning activities for their peers. A great day for all! Literacy Support I would like to acknowledge the great work that is occurring in the F-4 campus with our valued Integration Aide and Literacy Support; Ms Kirsty Williams. Kirsty supports our students in their literacy development and demonstrates daily, a high dedication to individual students and small groups. Students not only evidence a development in their literacy learning but also a heightened sense of confidence. Building is taking shape! It is so very exciting to see the new F-4 building starting to take shape. Space will definitely not be an issue as we see the framework for the four large classrooms, an open learning space and a vast multi-purpose space that opens onto the outdoor areas coming together. The new building is also equipped for our extreme weather with large outdoor undercover areas also. Soon we will be working on designing the outdoor areas to ensure didactic play spaces for our excited F-4 students and staff. The artists impression can be seen below. Wishing you all a great two weeks creating memorable time spent with family and friends. Fran Heath - Corryong College Principal

Dear Parents & Carers,

Today you would have received your child’s report that indicates their achievements and areas for improvement or goals to work towards. Remember to celebrate your child’s effort towards their personal goals and learning levels.

We wish all the very best to Marcie and her partner Nat, as they start a new chapter in their lives as very soon-to-be parents. On top of the staff morning tea held for Marcie, her Year 9 English class gave her a beautiful ‘best wishes’ party and really demonstrated the respect and rapport that has been established.

Emily will definitely be continuing on in our college staff, however, her role will be in the arts to replace Marcie’s maternity leave. Whilst Ms Bowman is excited for this role, it was with much deliberation and with a heavy heart moving from the 5/6 area that she agreed on the move. Luckily our 5/6s will still very much, have Ms Bowman in close vicinity.

Junior School Celebrate Science

The junior campus students and staff put on a great display at their Science Fair to celebrate their learnings around an array of science concepts; geology, erosion, precipitation, technology and many more. The students set up their science stations and ran learning activities for their peers. A great day for all!

Literacy Support

I would like to acknowledge the great work that is occurring in the F-4 campus with our valued Integration Aide and Literacy Support; Ms Kirsty Williams.

The artist’s impression can be seen below.

Wishing you all a great two weeks creating memorable time spent with family and friends.

This term in Art, students have used paint to

further develop their exploration of art

techniques and concepts. They have created

Sydney Nolan inspired Ned Kelly paintings.

They have developed an understanding of

primary and secondary colours and practised

mixing colours. This has involved creating

colour wheel eyes and caterpillars. Through

the exploration of line, space, shape and

colour students created winter pieces featuring

snow banks, birch trees and snow gums.

Students are now learning about types of

traditional Indigenous art. They are using their

developed skills in paint, to create dot

paintings on paper, wood and rock.

Winter Carnival - Friday 19th July

Year 4 students will travelling down to Kelly Park in Wodonga

to compete in netball, football or soccer. Bus leaving at 8am and

A few words from Year 10 Work experience

Last week I went down to Mate Street Dental Clinic in Lavington to do my work experience. The first three days I was working with Jess, Bianca, and Chistine watching dental procedures and was helping with cleaning up the room once the patient had left. On Thursday and Friday I was working with Bree and I got to assist with cleans and fillings and also got to process X-Rays. I also got to learn how to sterilise the dental equipment. I really enjoyed my work experience and my favourite part was assisting, helping the dentist and assistants and watching a surgical procedure of a tooth extraction. I also enjoyed lunchtime because everyone was so nice and friendly and I would definitely go back. - Neva Attree

I went to work experience at Walwa Vet Practice. I had a great experience and loved every minute, and I did many things I have never experienced such as desexing kittens and pups and preg testing cattle. I also got to see X-Rays of a labrador with a broken leg. My favourite part was assisting in surgery of a dog that had been ripped open by a wild pig. It was gross but I learnt so much, I would definitely go back - Maddi Miller

Last week I went on work experience at the Corryong College Junior Campus, I spent the week rotating between all the classes between Foundation and Year 4. I enjoyed the variety of classes and helping all students. My favourite part of the week was working with the Year 4s and the Foundation / Year 1s as they were all so nice and respectful. Some challenges that came with this week was the freezing temperatures and some kids with very short attention spans. I found the week very enjoyable and I would definitely do it again. - Kristy Whitehead

I went to Mulligans Drilling company in Khancoban where i took on a large variety of jobs such as mechanics, truck driving, fencing, construction, loading and unloading semi trucks and checking equipment before they leave for a drilling job. The best part of my work experience was waking up at 5:30 in the morning to go get coffee and start work, i Enjoyed using my hands and helping everyone through the work place. There weren't many challenges that occurred except for the drilling machine which wasn't even and that caused water to leak into the filters and they needed to pull the whole motor apart and rebuild it from scratch which cost them an extra $8000. There were a fair few memorable stories from going to the pub for lunch, form chats with the fellas at work to the whole week that I’ll remember for the rest of my life. - Corey Saunders

I went to the Corryong Veterinary Services for work experience last week. On Monday, I was with Lauren Tyrell and I got to watch a cat being de-sexed and we sent a dog home that had recovered from eating rat bait. On Tuesday, I was with Chris Miller and we got to go out to a farm and look at a bull's tail that had a huge ulcer and I got to give it antibiotics through a needle. On Wednesday we didn’t do much. On Thursday, it was pretty quiet as well. On Friday I was with Chris again and we went preg testing heaffers for most of the day and I got to help out with mustering cattle into the shoot. - Rachel Paton

For my work experience placement I went to DELWP in wild dog control/management. This job took me to many places such as Mount Elliot and Bunroy. The best part in my experience was setting the traps and learning how to track wild dogs and know if they have been around a certain area. I did not face any challenges in my work experience and one memorable story is that we caught a wild dog and out of the 4 people that have gone with the dog trapper I was the first person to get a wild dog. Overall I enjoyed my work experience very much and found it very interesting and enjoyable. - Jarrad Hunt

Page 6: Corryong College Keeping In Touch...Corryong College Keeping In Touch 28th June, 2019 P O Box 225, Corryong, Vic. 3707 Tel. No. 02 6076 1566 & 02 6076 1061 Senior Campus Fax. No. 02

I went to Mildren & Coysh and I worked in the mechanical workshop with Adam as my supervisor. Friday for smoko we had hamburgers, “cooked” by me, that was quite nice, the friendships and casual banter made it quite interesting. The only challenge I faced was everytime you wanted to take something out you had to dismantle heaps of other things as well. Overall it was a worthwhile experience. - Barry

For work experience, I went to work as a fencing contractor somewhere between Tintaldra and Cudgewa. I reckon that the best part was playing with Murph, their little puppy. The hard manual labour probably the hardest part, so cementing, fence twitching and pulling the barbed wire. The most memorable part was when Sam almost got stuck upside down in a hole. Overall it was pretty good. - Emmatt

I did my work experience at the Corryong Newsagency. They sell a lot of magazines and newspapers so I had to help a staff do the return forms and some reports. I had to do customer service and entertain the customers. At first, I had some trouble handling the till as it was my first time handling one but the owner and the staff were nice to help me with it. The best part was when I had to meet a lot of people and have a bit of a conversation with them. My last day is the most memorable part of my work experience as the owner treated me to coffee and snacks. - Sean Cai Malenab

I went to the Corryong Peekaboo childcare. I took part in childcare. The best part of work experience was looking after the kids. It was fun taking part in caring for the children for example feeding them, getting them ready for bed and just playing with them. I didn’t really experience anything memorable. I faced the challenge of not being able to take part in many activities as I needed a certificate. I did get an hour lunch break. - Malkara Farrell

I went to Sacred Heart School Corryong and did my work experience as a teacher. I would help the teachers with students in the classroom and I helped with yard duty during recess and lunch. I enjoyed helping the students with their work and it was fun building friendships with the students. I went on the 3/4 school camp to Borambola from Wednesday until Friday and it was exhausting. The biggest challenge was trying to watch out for all the kids while still trying to keep myself in order. I think the kids enjoyed me being there with them and I enjoyed it too, other than how tiring it was. The part I remember the most was when the kids were doing some activities that required a lot of thinking. I could not believe the ideas that the kids came up with to complete the tasks. - Caitlin Shipman

I went to Corryong Health doing pretty much everything. We did a lot of work in the nursing home doing activities and exercises with them. The best part of work experience was doing the GLAD Program which was pretty much physiotherapy for those living with arthritis. I found it really interesting to watch the difference between the knee with arthritis and the ‘good’ knee. - Ella Scammell

So last week I went to Damms Auto and Diesel Repairs for my work experience. For the first day I spent all day in the workshop with James Paton helping out. For that day I pulled apart a valve cover and replaced a push rod, learnt how to add and take out links on a chainsaw chains and also just washed down mowers and clean up the tool boxers. For the rest of the week I went out to Bunroy with Zac Paul to help put in a big sprinkler system. While I was out there I helped put poly pipe together to lay in the trenches. I also drove around in a tractor with a cement mixer (which was the best thing I did) filling in the holes where the sprinklers came out so the cows would knock them over. Overall I enjoyed my time with Damms had lots of fun. - Kyle Jarvis For my work experience week I was lucky enough to partake in the day-to-day activities involved in being a mechanical engineer at Snowy Hydro. I was taught complex formulas, introduced to group building; Murray 1 and Murray 2 power stations, setting up experiments and solving real life problems. I got to spend time with two of the smartest people I now know, becoming friends and basically hanging out and learning at the same time. On the first day we were right into it, I was welcomed and not once felt bored or worried. We drove to Murray 1 and set up a go-pro to monitor movements of valves to potentially see any false or destructive functions. I can now sufficiently use complex formulas in excel and google sheets, and have a great understanding of how companies like this work. I saw deeper into what goes on behind the scenes. Safety is a high priority as well as teamwork. And luckily (sort of) we were able to solve a problem we found while solving a different problem! The overall outcome of the week was amazing! From office to field I saw everything. My vision of where I wish to be in the near future is clearer now, and I feel smarter and am immensely grateful for being privileged enough to go there.—Ashton Kurnof

A big thank you to Nicky Nugent for organising such a memorable week!
