Academic Awards The following awards are presented in the five major disciplines. The selections were made by the members of each department and are awarded to students who have not only exhibited exceptional work in each discipline, but also have demonstrated a passion for the subject matter and set an example for class participation. THE ENGLISH AWARDS These awards are given to the students who have consistently achieved standards of excellence in reading and interpretation, written expression, and creativity. Every year, our Latin students take the National Latin Exam along with thousands of students across the country. This year three of our students achieved a perfect score on the National Latin Exam for their grade level. Those students are: Anya Raheja, Chase Commander and Rishi Misra

The following students received Gold Med-als or First Place ribbons on the National Latin Exam: Jack Wessell, Richard Sollee, Bella Pacella and Luke KobrinEach year, our Spanish students take the National Spanish Exam. The following students earned a Gold Medal: Shali Chithriki, Rick Garcia-Bengochea, Kamren Khan, Marcela Neret, Shourya Sangam, Will Shepherd, Jared Zhang and Brooke Zimmerman Our students also take the National French Exam. The following students earned a Gold Medal: Madi Duhnoski, Sammy Eden, Alexander McIntyre and Catie Murphy

Fine and Performing Arts AwardsTHE VISUAL ARTS AWARD is presented to an outstanding studio artist. This year the award goes to: Brooke Zimmerman

THE BOLLES VISUAL ARTS SHOWCASE AWARDS are presented to three visual art students,

one each in lower, middle, and upper school, whose works were selected by an independent jury. This outstanding art will be permanently displayed on the appropriate campuses. This year’s recipient for the middle school is: Alex Hastings

THE BEGINNING CHORUS AWARD goes to Katie Carlson

THE MILDRED BRETT VOCAL AWARD which goes to the outstanding Chorus student, is presented this year to: Rachel Johns

THE JONATHAN SOUD BEGINNING BAND AWARD is named after one of our middle school students who passed away in the fall of 2010. Jonathan was the recipient of the Beginning Band award in the spring of 2010. This year Jonathan Soud Beginning Band Award goes to: Jake McGraw

THE LOUIS ARMSTRONG JAZZ AWARD goes to the outstanding Jazz musician, Alex Tun

THE NELSON BRETT INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC AWARD goes to the outstanding intermediate Band student, Madeline Duhnoski

Service and Citizenship AwardsTHE “WHERE EVERYONE BELONGS” AWARD: This is a new award this year and is given to one boy and one girl who display outstanding leadership skills. These students are truly a role model for all. They speak up when an injustice is seen like bullying or hurtful behavior. If someone needs help, they offer assistance. In the classroom, they show integrity, respect and a strong work ethic. Overall, the WEB award is for the students who in all actions demonstrate great character with compassion and courage and work to make this place Where Everybody Belongs. THE BOLLES WAY AWARD, given to one boy and one girl in each class who truly exemplify the tenets of our school motto – The Bolles Way: Pursuing Excellence through Courage, Integrity and Compassion.GRADE 6: Ozair Khawaja, Emily LekasGRADE 7: Kenny Sogbesan, Alexis Garas GRADE 8: Noah Silverstein, Claire Cywes

Established by the Jenkins family, THE RU-FUS R. MCCLURE AWARD recognizes the Grade 8 student who has achieved the greatest academic improvement during the middle school years. The recipient receives a cash award, a plaque and has his or her name inscribed on a permanent plaque located in the office. This year, the award is presented to: Hanna Ali

Selected by the recipient, the teacher who was most helpful to the student’s progress also receives a cash award. Hanna has chosen for this award Miss Meg Albea

THE JACKIE WITT AWARD is established in memory of Jackie Witt, Middle School Guidance Counselor and Director of Student Activities. Jackie passed away after a long battle with cancer in the fall of 2008.

The middle school student who receives this award has demonstrated and proven his or her ability to be compassionate to others, has embodied a selfless attitude, and has promoted Bolles through the exhibition of school spirit, as well as showing a strong sense of commitment to community service. This person has the ability to form lasting bonds with his or her peers and teachers, and has the unique ability to put people at ease. In summary, the recipient is a person who selflessly helps others and is respected by fellow students and faculty alike. The award is chosen by secret ballot by the 8th grade class. THE JAMES D. BALL SPORTSMANSHIP AWARD: This award is presented each year to two (one boy and one girl) superior Middle School athletes whose character best reflects the essence of good sportsmanship. This year, the award is presented to: Wale Onasanya, Anna Csikai

THE VAN ETTEN BENT AWARD: This award is presented each year to two (one boy and one girl) superior Middle School Athletes who also possess high standards of l eadership and scholarship. This year the awards are presented to: Davey Crouch, Ella Edwards

THE JAMES M. MCKINLEY AWARD: This award is presented each year to two (one boy and one girl) 8th grade students who have demonstrated outstanding academic and athletic achievement and who possess exemplary standards of leadership and character. This year the award goes to: K.J. Fagan, Catie Murphy

THE HEAD’S AWARD: This award is presented each year to two students, one girl and one boy, who have most exemplified the school’s value statement during their entire time on the Bartram Campus. The award is chosen by the Head of the Middle School in consultation with the advisors and faculty. The School’s Value Statement reads as follows: We, the members of The Bolles School, strive to reflect in each of our lives respect for the individual. Based on this shared philosophy, we believe that the following values are important for each of us to understand and follow: Respect for the property and opinions of others, Responsibility for our actions, Hard Work to achieve mental and physical excellence, Concern For Others especially for those less fortunate, and Pride in our community. THE MCKENZIE NOELLE WILSON AWARD: This award is presented in memory of a remarkable Bolles sophomore who passed

away in August of 2010. McKenzie was beloved, respected, and known as a friend to all in the School community. She never met a stranger. She cherished Bolles, and was a beacon of joyous school spirit. The award goes to one or more deserving 8th graders who, above all else, are living their lives with the characteristic of a loving and thoughtful heart, and have consistently demonstrated such through their friendly and exuberant nature, their abundant school spirit, and in their concern for, and support of, others, especially their fellow students. This year we have six recipients of the McKenzie Noelle Wilson Award, who have been chosen with the help of Dean Tom Collins, who knew McKenzie well and was her varsity softball coach. A donation of $5,000 will be made to the Bolles School in the names of the award recipients, and they will in turn confer and choose an area of the School that to them best reflects and supports these qualities. The recipients of the 2015 McKenzie Noelle Wilson Award are: Naomi Herman, Connor Stoll,

Alex Cywes, Oliver Wilson, Rebecca Duffy, Madison Wilson, Carson New.

THE JOHN AND WILLIAM BARTRAM AWARD: Bartram School was named for the naturalists, John and William Bartram, who explored Florida recording its Flora and fauna in the eighteenth century. These men demonstrated the inquisitive mind and adventurous spirit which contribute to individual success. In honor of them and of Bartram School, The John and William Bartram Award was established in 1992. This award is presented to the 8th grade student whom the faculty considers to be the ideal student citizen with a broad range of academic and participatory interests and who has made the greatest contribution to the total Middle School program.
