And thanks again to all of them for theirfaithful service since 1966! - Speaking of our Centennial, remember to get yourcommemorative T-Shirts, Pens, Mugs, and Plates. And, we look forward to our next majorevent which will be September 18-19: On Saturday Evening the 18th,Pilgrim Fellowshipalums will have a gathering and barbeque at the church. And on Sunday Morning, the19t

\ we want to invite everyone who attended Sunday School, Youth Groups, or werebaptized here to be with us for a special reunion worship.

--BUGS has just finished up another successful season! But remember that theFarm Stand will be open every \Vednesday for several more weeks.

--Special best wishes and prayers to several of our parishioners: To Joy Chapman, who remains in failing health at Life Care at ValleyView; to Kathy Smith and NettieAdkins, who are recovering well from recent back surgeries; to Jane Penrod who isrecuperating from recent surgery; and to Bob Brown who will have Hip ReplacementSurgery on Monday, August 9, at St. AI's.

Notes From The Board

My spirit is uplifted in my own little space. Away fromthe tensions of life I find peace. Robin Canning opened ourBoard Meeting with a devotion which reminded us of theimportance that each of us has our own little space to findpeace in our lives. Asking God to help us provide our needs,we conducted the business of the Church.

Thank you to all who have assisted with our churchservice while Mike and Tami are finding peace in their ownlittle space in Hawaii. We appreciate your willingness to help.We thank those who hosted coffee hour and provided flowers.

For those who were here for our major remodel project,it is difficult to realize it has been over ten years since wecompleted the work. Our Church is much improved. Howeverthere is continuing needs for our Church building. We recentlyreplaced a failed air conditioner, repaired leaking plumbing, and replaced light fixtures. Our carpet is showing wear. TheBoard is asking for a special donation to a capitalimprovement fund to help cover these expenses. Pleaseconsider donating; any amount will be greatly appreciated.

Christmas in August is here, can you help by providing afew basic items for those less fortunate?

Enjoy your summer, and in the midst of all youractivities, we hope to see you in Church. May this be one of theplaces where you find peace.

Respectfully Submitted,Will Patterson, Board Chair

Christmas In August

On Sunday, August 15, we are going to celebrate Christmas inAugust and, as is our tradition, we will are going to collect items for alocal non-profit humanitarian organization. This year we will besupporting the Interfaith Sanctuary. The Interfaith Sanctuary is ashelter for homeless people in our community. It is supported by 28local organizations, representing at least eleven Christiandenominations and four non-Christian faith traditions. TheSanctuary is a great example of diverse faiths working together to feedand clothe God's children.

A list of needed items was in the August 1 bulletin and is posted onthe bulletin board in the basement. On August 8, one of theSanctuary's directors will spend a few minutes telling us about theSanctuary's work in our community, then on August 15 we will collectthe gifts. Christmas in August helps us remember that Christ's gift tous is not seasonal, and allows us to learn more about others who aredoing Christ's work in our community.

Here's the answer to last month's question: When we remodeled (1996-1998) oneof our contractors (unbeknownst to us) put in a secret cross t somewhere in the church-do you know where it is?

Answer: It is in the men's bathroom on the top floor! Walk in, look up, and thenlook back, and you'll find it. A rather unique place!

THIS MONTH'S QUESTION: ICan you name the two current members of Wright Church who served as

members of the Idaho State Senate? I

~-----------,We had a great time having all our former living

ministers with us on July 11, 2010Since some were unable to attend our special service on July 11, we thought we

would pass on some information about what the past ministers are doing.

Rev. Stacy Richards worked for the State then went to school and got his MastersDoctorate in Counseling. He then worked in S. Dakota. After retiring and going to Yuma, AZto be near family he couldn't find a UCC church close by so in 2004 he started one. He metand married Marilyn and she has a home in Denver Co. where they spend the summers andgo to Yuma in the winters. His daughter, Andrea, is a teacher in California and daughterPaula is married with one son and one daughter, they to live in California.

Rev. Jim Nolan is retired. He and Barbara still live in Boise. Their son, Don lives inthe Seattle area and has two children. Bob and Christy live in Virginia and have two Girls.Amy is married and has a daughter, they live in Boise where she works at St. Lukes in Merid-ian. Jim volunteers for the Red Cross every Tuesday delivering blood to the hospitals. Heand Barbara are active with their granddaughters activities.

Rev. Ted and Susan Huffman. Son Isaac is 29 y.o and has been married for 5 years isa medical librarian, living in Olympia, WA. Rachael is in England and is a day care worker.Ted and Susan are in Rapid City, S. Dakota and minister to a congregation of about 600. It isa very musical church that is 131 years old. They support 3 mission projects: Habitat forHumanity, Wood splitter group called "The Wood Chuck Society", which collects, splits andgives wood to the needy and their sister church in Costa Rica that they join together for va-cation bible study. Ted's mom is living with them and Susan's dad is in a retirementfacility close by.

Stewardship Message from Carl Van Slyke

Sabbath Time

] lift up my eyes to the hills ... Psalm 121

When you read this message, I hope to be having some Sabbath and renewal time in themountains of New Hampshire. I know that my help does not come from pine-coveredhills, but from the God who made heaven and earth. Still it helps to get away even for justa week to a place of beauty and rest. I hope you have the chance to go somewhere youfind restful, even if it is your own backyard. Perhaps the most violated of the TenCommandments is the one about taking Sabbath time; God tried to establish a societywhere one of the basic rules was that no created being, not even a servant, should workall the time. We need to take time simply to, as an old Confession puts it, remember thatour "chief end" is to praise and enjoy God.

In your Sabbath, whether a day off or a vacation, give of your mental capital, yourspiritual energy, to listen for God this summer. Time for reflection, for wonder, forhonest questions, for waiting on the Spirit all are gifts to ourselves, to God, andultimately to our faith communities. This kind of time makes us whole, so that we canwork with God to bring wholeness to the world. Give God time this summer. Oh, anddon't forget to send in your pledge, too!

Rochelle A. Stackhouse is the Senior Minister oj The Church oj the Redeemer, United Church oj Christ,New Haven Connecticut.

As you will note elsewhere in this issue of The Wright-Ups, the Churchhas encountered some unexpected expenses during the first six months ofthe year. These include the replacement of the sanctuary air conditioner, repair to city-water outside hose bib that was leaking, replacement ofirrigation pump for lawn (cost shared with BUGS),repairs to lawn sprinklersystem, and replace small lawn mower that was no longer repairable. Thebottom line is that this reduces our fund balance to a dangerously lowpoint. i wouid ask that you consider giving an over and above gift to fundthese important items in the life of the Church.

God is still speaking,
