August is the time that we start talking about and planning for the fall. Let me tell you, we have a lot of ideas and plans brewing. This is wonderful because our life together is blossoming with fellowship and good work. Our traditional programs such as bench supper, women’s fellowship, Wright Ones, and the book club are thriving. In addition to these, we are also creating and reviving other activities. There will be a variety of ways to serve and celebrate our life together. One of these is the kick off of our children and youth program with the: WAHOOZ! FAMILY FUN ZONE BEARD OFF- SATURDAY, 09/06/2014 We will be taking a group of ALL ages to Wahooz Family Fun Zone on Saturday September 6. We will have 3 hours of unlimited access to: mini golf, bumper boats, go-karts, laser tag, the kiddie cove, bowling, and a $5 game card. We will also have an additional 30 minutes for lunch with pizza and soda. Please, invite ANY children you know. ALL CHILDREN AND AGES ARE WELCOME TO JOIN. This will be a fun time of getting to know each other through play. Please contact the church office or me if you have any questions or would like to reserve a spot for the adventure. In order to raise involvement and excitement Dan VanderVeen and I will be competing in a beard off. We will have a Spartan-esque competition at Wahooz! The winner gets to keep the beard and the loser must shave. Over the next month leading up to September 6 we will be collecting donations and sponsorships. You can use this to show your support for either Dan or myself. Pick who you want to see with a beard or who you want to see clean shaven. The funds raised will go towards this year’s children’s programming and the general fund. Pick your beard! This is exciting, and is only one of the ways we are growing together. Along with current programs and ministries please see a list of the following that we hope to get in full swing soon: - All ages adult religious education - Young adults fellowship (“Young adult” is anyone who feels they fit such a category) - Sunday School for all ages - Men’s fellowship If you are interested in any of these or have ideas for a group or program please contact me. I will close with a snapshot of my schedule. For the month of August I will be having open office hours at Aerocaffe located at 201 N. Orchard St. I will be there from 9-12 and 1-3 on Wednesdays. This will be a time of building relationships. I hope you will be able to join me. As always if there are any needs, prayers or just a desire to chat please feel free to contact me. Many blessings and Love Rev. Drew

ALL CHURCH POTLUCKs Each month the 3

rd Sunday fellowship time is reserved for an all church potluck through December.

Each month a group from the church will sponsor our all church potlucks. Putting out plates, napkins, salt, pepper, drinks and clean up is all that is needed – the rest will be provided by the wonderful cooks of Wright Church.

Put your group name on the signup sheet next to Potluck and let's eat and share together.

AUGUST ALL CHURCH POTLUCK IS SUNDAY, 17,

Sponsored by the Andrews family.

Coffee Hosts/Worship Flowers Coffee hour/fellowship hosts are needed to serve coffee and bring a treat for fellowship time after worship. Please sign up on bulletin board in social hall.

Altar flower hosts are also needed. Sign up is on bulletin board down stairs. You may bring you own flowers or pay the church $20 and we will provide them for you.

Arts, Crafts, Potluck - Fun We will gather again in September. This group just gets together for fun, friendship and, of course, food. So, take the summer to create some new items to share and bring the craft you are working on and enjoy the company in September.

Book Club News The book club meets on the first Thursday each month at 1:00 pm in the library. All are welcome to come and enjoy a cup of tea and an interesting discussion.

"MOVE DREW FUND"

We have met our goal of over $4600 to support the interviewing and moving expenses for our new Pastor, Drew. Carl Van Slyke and the entire Search Committee thanks each one of you who supported this effort with cash donations, car use, motel lodging, and most of all the prayer support that we felt as we moved on our journey. THANK YOU.

THANKSGIVING IN JULY AT PILGRIM COVE

This past Sunday (7-27) 14 members of Wright Church joined nearly 30 other supporters of Pilgrim Cove for what hopes to be an annual event. We enjoyed the fine fellowship, the delicious turkey dinner prepared by Chef Lu, and the "out-of-this-world" desserts that Chef Lu created. Carl Van Slyke was roped into auctioning the desserts to the highest bidder. Bidding was fast and furious and everyone had some dessert to top off an enjoyable afternoon. Our thanks to Susan Busche and her crew at Pilgrim Cove for organizing and carrying out the event. Also thanks to the Board for all that they do on our behalf.

THE GOLDEN CHAIN OF

FRIENDSHIP Friendship is a golden chain

The links are friends so dear.

And like a rare and precious jewel

It's measured more each year.

It’s clasped together firmly

With a love that's deep and true.

And it's rich with happy memories

And fond recollection too.

Time can't destroy its beauty

For as long as memory lives,

Years can't erase the pleasure

That the joy of friendship gives.

For friendship is a priceless gift

That can't be bought or sold,

But to have an understanding friend

Is worth far more than gold.

And the golden chain of friendship

Is a strong and blessed tie,

Binding kindred hearts together

As the years go passing by.
