NEWS FROM AND FOR THE CONGREGATION

--Welcome to our newest member, Carol Johnson! Carol, who has attended ourchurch for some time, reaffirmed her faith and committed herself to Christ and ourministries. We're so glad to have you "officially" among our flock! Carol's address andphone number are already in our Church Directory.

--So glad to report that Jack Hansen continues to make good progress in hisrecovery from recent cancer surgery. He did have a temporary setback when hecontracted pneumonia and was hospitalized, but that has passed, thankfully. He remainsat Life Care at Valley View, but the hope is he will return home in the near future.

--Thanks to the efforts of several from our Men's Fellowship Group, who spent timein October doing some important upgrading work to our adopted cabin at Pilgrim Cove.Steve Robbins, Carl Van Slyke, Dale Ramsey, Jim Morrow, and Al Busche were able tocomplete some insulated skirting work around the outside base of the cabin, as well as seethat insulation was blown in between the ceiling and roof. Stay tuned for more detailsabout how we can continue this project.

--Don't Forget: Daylight Savings Time ends the First Sunday of November. Turnyour clocks back before you go to bed on Saturday night, November 5.

--Ministry of Volunteers (Nominations) Co-Chairs Laura Shockley and Lois Wadeare busy recruiting members to serve as Church Officers, Committee Chairs, and Deaconsfor 2012. If you are asked, please consider serving in one of these important positions. And, if there is some special way you'd really like to serve, volunteer yourself to Lois orLaura. The Slate of Officers, Committee Chairs, and Deacons will be presented to ourCongregational Meeting after church on Sunday, November 27.

--Christmas Day falls on a Sunday this year. At their last meeting, the Diaconatediscussed the "dilemma" of whether or not to have a morning service that day, sincehistory tells us that hardly anyone attends church on Christmas morning, because of theimportant and precious family celebrations. Since the Christmas Eve Service traditionallyis exceptionally well attended, it was decided to make that Worship the focus of our" JoyTo The World" celebration, and not have a Service on Christmas Morning.

--Thanks to the Stewardship Committee chaired by Carl Van Slyke for theirinteresting and informative and fun presentations during the Fall Campaign. Rememberto bring your 2012 Estimate Of Giving Cards to Church on Sunday, November 6, when wecelebrate our Commitment Sunday in Worship. If you can't be there that day, you maymail the cards to the church ahead of time. Having our pledges in hand will immenselyhelp the Committee produce next year's budget and make plans for our ministries. Thanksto everyone!

Stewardship Message by Carl Van Slyke

Give Love, Our Mission: 1

"For I was hungry and you gave mefood." Matthew 25:35

As you are reading this we have completed three of our four Stewardshipemphasis Sundays. Our theme "Count Yourself Blessed" Lk 6:38 gives usfood for thought. We have heard about the "Generous Women of theBible", "God's Guarantee", and "An Inconvenient Truth". Yet to come is"Wealth and Wisdom",

Rochelle A. Stackhouse is the Senior Minister of The Church of the Redeemer,United Church of Christ, New Haven Connecticut says the following about herChurch's stewardship campaign:

"This month the UCC invites all of us to celebrate Mission:1, an opportunity toserve Jesus by serving those who are hungry. Thinking both locally and globally,we are called to connect with local soup kitchens and food pantries, as well asgiving to global hunger projects, especially those addressing hunger in droughtstricken East Africa."

"Our congregation has decided to connect this program with our annualGenerosity Season when we receive pledges for our budget for the coming year. When we pledge to our local congregation, we provide food for those who hungerspiritually, emotionally and physically. We give so that the Communion table isset each month and we may all eat together, becoming the body of Christ. Wegive so that our building is ready to host Twelve-Step groups who share coffeeand transformative stories together. We give so that our children may be fed withthe love of their teachers and pastors and the formative stories of the gospel. Wegive so that our spirits may be fed by music that transports our souls. We give sothat when a hungry neighbor calls, as happened today while I was writing this, wehad a food closet stocked and supermarket gift cards ready."

"Someone once said, "The church exists for mission as fire exists for burning."We give love, our Mission:l."

Does this sound like our Church. I think it does. Our Church faces somecritical issues as we prepare our budget for 2012. Our income for 2011 isfalling short of the dollars that were budgeted. Please prayerfully considerthese thoughts as you prepare your annual pledge to be presented onSunday, November 6, during the morning worship hour. Your responsewill determine how we fulfill our mission.

NOTES FROM THE BOARD

"Here I am, Lord. Is it I, Lord? ...1 have heard you calling ... 1 will go,Lord, if you lead me." We can all be inspired to action by the powerful wordsof the hymn, "Here I Am, Lord". Knowing God will lead us, if we will onlylisten, and follow God's path, we conducted the business of the Church.

We all know these are difficult times, however difficult times arenothing new. Weare tempted to withhold of ourselves until times are lessdifficult. But now is the time when the need is great. We were reminded ofthis by Linda Baxter; as we discussed the role of our Church in providing ourmonthly community supper. Our Church will find the resources to continuethis worthwhile outreach.

Weare well into our stewardship drive. Please consider what gifts youcan provide to our Church. Our pledges will set the Church's budget for nextyear. We are committed to a balanced budget, and every gift, large or smallhelps.

Our budget sets the priorities for our Church. In the past years, whilewe have spent within our budget, and honored all our financial commitments,we have overreached our resources. We have been overly optimistic as to ourincome, and have spent more than we have received. We were able to makeup the difference between our budgeted expenses and our income by usingcash reserves which were intended to be held in special funds. Our cashreserves and special funds are nearly depleted. As we set our budget for nextyear we will have difficult decisions to make as to how to allocate our financialresources. We invite every member and friend of Wright Church toparticipate in our budget process. This is your Church and input from allmembers is welcome at our November Congregational meeting as we discussour preliminary budget.

We have a wonderful, strong, and full-spirited Church. Together inChrist we will prevail to overcome any difficulties which we may face. Herewe are Lord, it is us Lord, we have heard you calling, and we will go Lord, asyou lead us.

Respectfully Submitted,Will Patterson, Board Chair

HAPPY 10th ANNIVERSARY COMMUNITY SUPPER!!!From Linda Baxter

I find it hard to believe that it has been 10 years since Wright Congregational United Church of Christ wasapproached to help feed the community. We were asked if we would like to do a dinner 1 night a month to share theabundance that we had.

Ten years ago 4 churches in our community got together to see if it was possible for each of our churches to puton a dinner once a month for the disadvantaged, homeless, lonely, members of the community surrounding our churches.

Here is a brief history of the event:

Our first supper we had 15 guests and about as many helpers. We have some regulars and new people eachmonth. It is so good to see them here. Even if we served just one person it is worth it. We have had anywhere from 15guests to 130. Of course when we have a larger crowd, they are not all seated at the same time. On the average we serve60 to 75 people. We have singles and families come for dinner. We serve them sit down style, tablecloths, flowercenterpieces, the whole bit. We didn't want it to be cafeteria style. Thought you might like to know the menu:Lasagne Casserole Meatloaf.Vegetable Mashed Potatoes/GravySalad VegetableRolls Salad

Dessert RollsCoffee/Punch Dessert

Coffee/PunchJoan Wenske and I took turns every other month until about 3 years ago and now Sandy Gillmore & Jim

Erickson help me as Joan has taken a much need retirement.

We started out with food we had gotten from a 2 minute race through the new Albertsons at Vista and OverlandGrand opening. You wouldn't believe how much food you can get in a grocery cart when the main item you're going afteris MEAT! I got enough in the cart to get us going for four 4 months. Oh, I also had to find a small chest size freezer, quick,to put the 1OOlbsof ground beef in. Thanks to Jack Wenske, who has an eye for deals!

We have had 2 grants (one for $1500 and one for $2500) from Fred Meyers and when the church hosted the CPCSpring Assembly we received $2400 (money that was left after expenses were paid). These grants got us thru 81/2 yrs.The cost to prepare the meal is between $100 -$125. Thank you to Jack & Joan Wenske for getting us the grants.

I have to tell you about one occasion that happened this past August, but, it is similar to many others thru theyears. It was a family of 41children and their Mother who had come for dinner. We were very busy serving the meals andthis young boy, about 7, wrs at the counter. I asked if I could help him. He asked very politely if he and his sister couldhave seconds. I said of c9urse, and they wanted everything. I gave it to them, and they ate it all and wondered if theycould have more. Again I said yes and helped them back to their table. There was a baby under 1yr and another siblingand Mom. I chatted with he~ and found out that that was the only meal they had had that day and probably others.

This is why we do the meals.

We don't do the meals November and December, since there seems to be a lot of help those 2 months!! We willstart again in January. We only have 1 problem. NO MONEY! We thought we could try some fundraising to get everyonein the church involved.

Starting the 30th of October there will be a FOOD JAR in the Narthex, and if you have anyChange in your pocket or purse just drop it in the jar. I'm positive this will help fund the dinners for thecommunity. Jim Morrow will still be working on grants and contacting businesses. Thank you so mucheveryone for all you hllp & support. WE couldn't have done it without YOU!!!!
