Welcome Mrs Hawkins This week we were notified that a new graduate, Mrs Ashleigh Hawkins, was appointed to a permanent position at Niagara Park Public School. Mrs Hawkins will be joining our staff in 2018 and she is very excited to be teaching in our fantastic school.

Summer Reading is a Blast Reading is the key to success in education, but reading is not confined to school - what is learned at school needs to be used at home through reading for pleasure and interest.

Reading with or to a child will help keep their reading skills alive and prevents the loss of these skills. In a similar holiday reading program, results showed that 96% of students who participated, improved or maintained their reading levels over the holidays. These holidays we will be running the Summer Reading is a Blast Holiday Reading Program. You and your child are invited to participate in Summer Reading is a Blast for these summer school holidays. There is no cost involved, just commitment to have fun reading through the holidays.

Every participating student in Years K to 5 will receive a Summer Reading is a Blast reading card in the last week of school to record what they read over the holidays. The card also has tips for shared reading activities. Students are asked to read for 21 days during the summer holidays.

They record their holiday reading on the provided card and return it to school by Friday 9th February, 2018. Students who complete the card will receive a book prize.

Have a great weekend.

Book Fair A huge thank you to all of our parents, students and community members that attended our Rewards Book Fair last week. Due to the large amount of support we received from our school community and the generous offer by Scholastic, we received over $3,500 worth of books for our school! This was a fantastic effort and will make such a difference across the school. Thank you all so much once again.

Next year, our school will be running a Book Fair during education week (Term 3 Week 3) with a company called 'Carnival' (for variety), and will not be having the second Fair. We thank Scholastic for their support in running so many successful Book Fairs over the years.

Returns It's that time of year when I start collecting all books ready for the end of year stocktake. This week was the last week of borrowing for students and all students have been made aware of the books that they currently have out in their name. Overdue notices have gone out and reminder wrist bands have been distributed. If your child cannot find their Library books, please don't hesitate to contact me at: [email protected]. Whilst holiday borrowing at our school usually means that students take home extra books over the break, this Christmas break is a little different as we finish up the year. Holiday loans will not be coming home unless they have been requested personally by a parent. If you require more books for your child to read over the break, please don't hesitate to contact me. Alternatively, our local Libraries at Gosford, Erina Fair and Westfield Tuggerah have a fabulous selection of resources available for borrowing. Overdues It would be appreciated if all overdue books are either returned or settled with the school before the end of this term in order to finish off the year. This way, lost or damaged books can be weeded from the system during stocktake. Your assistance with this matter is greatly appreciated. Kayla Frost Teacher/Librarian
