and the games will provide our students with social skill opportunities during playtime. Thank you to Mrs Kylie Haverkamp for organising the painting of the games and thanks to the P&C for assisting with funding the project.

Good Luck Today we wished our school Cross Country team the best of luck as they competed in the Zone Cross Country at Wyoming Public School. Thanks to Mrs Gibson for organising our school’s involvement.

National Simultaneous Storytime Every year, a picture book written and illustrated by an Australian author is read simultaneously in Libraries, schools, preschools, childcare centres and book shops around the country. By facilitating National Simultaneous Storytime we aim to:

- Promote the value of reading and literacy - Promote the value and fun of books - Promote an Australian writer and publisher - Promote story time activities

This year on 27th May, our students participated in the national reading of a very entertaining book, The Brothers Quibble.

Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea It has been decided by our School Representative Council to hold a morning tea to fundraise for the Cancer Council. We are asking all Year 6 to students bake one dozen (12) large cup cakes to sell to all students during recess on Tuesday 23rd June. Our staff will also be contributing cup cakes to be sold on the day. All cakes will be sold for $1. 00. Thanks for your support, together we can make a difference.

Interrelate www.interrelate.org.au It was great to see so many children participate in the Interrelate program this week.

The Year 5 Students participated in a presentation called “Minding Me” and the Year 6 students participated in “Moving into the Teen Years”. The presenter was both very humorous and professional. She delivered the content to the students in a sensitive, informative and non-threatening way. The experience was both educational and worthwhile. Thank you to Mrs Scott and Miss Lothian for organising the opportunity for our students.

Year 5 Bathurst Excursion Next Wednesday, Year 5 head off on their excursion to Bathurst. The Students need to be at school no later than 6:10 am on Wednesday morning and will meet with their bags in the hall for roll marking. The bus will leave school at 6:30 am. The students will visit The Three Sisters and The Scenic Railway at Katoomba, Jenolan Caves, Hill End, The Sheep and Cattle Drome, Bathurst Gold fields and Mount Panorama. Thank you to Mrs Scott and Miss Lothian for organising the Year 5 excursion to Bathurst.

Girls Netball Our Girls Netball Team played Kariong Public School on Wednesday. Unfortunately we lost 17-12, however it was very close going into the third quarter. Our girls showed great sportsmanship and it was pleasing to see so many parents supporting our girls. Thanks to Miss Toomey for organising and coaching netball this year.

Central Coast Dance Festival We are very proud of our students who will be participating in the Central Coast Dance Festival. The Dance Festival is aimed to support the development of performing arts skills of students and to promote the appreciation of the arts. What makes the Central Coast Dance Festival happen is the enthusiasm and many hours of practice by our students, the commitment and creativity of our teachers and the strong support of parents and our community. In the last month, our students have worked very hard in preparation for the upcoming Dance Festival. I would like to thank everyone who has been involved, particularly Mrs Davis, Miss Morris and Mrs Debnam. Thank you to our teachers and parents for their support and thank you to our students for their commitment.

This week our K/1 undercover area has been spruced up with brightly coloured artwork. The children have really enjoyed watching their playground come to life and are very excited about getting out there next week to try some of the new activities and games that can be played. Thank you for your support in avoiding this area while the work was being done.

This week I was visited by Bella from 4G. She came to share her fabulous writing about the sorts of characters you might come across in imaginative texts. Great work, Bella! I also had a visit from Braxton and Sebastian from KD who wrote about dinosaurs and then created some very scary looking dinosaurs in visual arts to go with their writing.

PARLIAMENT & CIVIC EDUCATION REBATE (PACER) Students from our school recently have undertaken an education tour of the national capital. Students were given the opportunity to participate in a variety of educational programs with a focus on Australia’s history, culture, heritage and democracy.

The Australian Government recognises the importance of all young Australians being able to visit the national capital as part of their Civics and Citizenship education. To assist families in meeting the cost of the excursion, the Australian Government contributed funding per student under the Parliament and Civics Education Rebate program towards those costs. The rebate was paid directly to the school upon completion of the excursion.

GIRL’S NETBALL REPORT

On Wednesday 27th May, our girl’s PSSA Netball team played their first game of netball against Kariong Public School. Unfortunately, we were defeated 17-12 but the girls played a great game with some really good goals from our shooters Tara, Kayla and Emma. In the mid court Tiarna, Abbey, Bronte and Sophia played a good supportive role and Shyla and Heidi played a strong defensive game. We made a solid comeback in the 3rd quarter with the girls giving it their all.

They showed great teamwork and also fantastic sportsmanship. Very proud of your efforts girls! Unfortunately, Megan and Aly who were also chosen in the team, were unable to participate in the game.

Also a big thank you to Donna, for umpiring for us and for the parents who came to cheer us on.

BOY’S SOCCER REPORT Last Monday 18th May, we travelled to Hylton Moore Oval at East Gosford to play in the PSSA Soccer Knockout Competition against Wyoming Public School. After forming the team not even 2 weeks before the game and 2 x 25 minute training sessions, we were ready for the challenge.

We started the game really well with all boys working into their new positions without complaint. We conceded a goal early and fought back hard to go down at half time 2-0. Our half time chat mainly involved man marking and quick passes but mostly having a great time out on the field representing our school.

We started with blistering pace in the 2nd half with a goal to Tom Owen to bring the score back to 2-1. The boys started to get their momentum but unfortunately we conceded again to make the final score 3-1. Positives from the match saw us win the corner count 12-3, seeing some confidence levels soar on and off the field and most importantly, the team spirit that was formed over the short 2 weeks.

The team consisted of: Brendan (60), Jayden (60) Zac (60), Cooper (5/6M), Nathan (5/6M), Thomas (5/6H), Jeremy (5/6H), Deegan (5/6H), Will (5/6H), Mitchell (5G), Mitchell (4/5D), Blake (4/5D), Beau (4/5D) and Michael (4/5D).

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK

We all want progress, but if you’re on the wrong road, progress means doing an about-turn and walking back to the right road; in that case, the man who turns back soonest is the most progressive.
