Dear Parents and Carers,

Last Friday, five small schools participated in the WLA Cross Country Day

held at Attunga Public School. The students from Dungowan, Somerton,

Duri, Currabubula and Attunga schools competed in a sportsmanship

manner giving it their all to cross the finish line and was given a Zooper

doper icy pole to cool them down. There was a hive of activity at the

ballgames area with students interacting with others their own age. A huge

thank you to Mr Mattheus for coordinating the WLA Cross Country event

and to the Attunga Public School staff and staff from the other schools for

supporting the running of this event. The Attunga P&C need to be

congratulated for their outstanding hosting abilities ensuring the canteen

ran well and the smooth delivery of pre-ordered lunches to the students

and supplying food options for the visitors. The day had a wonderful

carnival atmosphere with superb weather with champions and runner up

medallions awarded for each age division. The highest point score school

was Currabubula Public School.

Yesterday eighteen students from Attunga Public School attended the

ANZAC Day March and service. Thank you to all the parents/carers for

supporting your child to attend this special event on the calendar.

I would also like to thank the staff from Attunga Public School for

giving up their time on Sunday to support the school through

attending the ANZAC Day Service and assisting with the Attunga

ANZAC Day Committee’s afternoon tea. Thank you to Miss Hull,

Mrs Stacey, Mrs Keeler and Mrs Worley. Thank you to Mrs

Makings for organising the music for the ANZAC Day service and

being a part of the school. Our School Captain Lara gave an

outstanding speech about the 100 years’ service of the RAFF. The

Captain and Vice-Captain laid the school wreath and all the

students tied their poppy on the Attunga War Memorial gates.

Please look at the Attunga Facebook page for photos capturing

the day.

The school will be implementing a new initiative across the

school. The Brain-Based Initiative (BBI) involve. The BBI is a 15

minutes program for all students K-6 to strengthen pathways in

their brain with targeted practice. The program involves fluid

reasoning skills, executive functioning skills and gross motor

development. This week the classes will create a baseline on the

skills for each student which will be used to create the right

learning at the right time to strengthen their targeted skill

development. There are three parts to the BBI. The first involves

students working with jigsaw puzzles under time restraints, the

second uses compare and contrast of two objects and the third

uses targeted individualised gross motor skill practice.

The P&C will be running the Mother’s Day Craft afternoons in

Week 3. The gifts order form for the students to create

individualised gifts for their mother or significant others during

the Mother’s Day Craft sessions. The order form is attached to

this newsletter.

Our Year 6 students will be attending the Canberra Excursion in

week 5 this term and payments need to be finalised by Friday 7th

May, 2021. Parent’s may opt to use their child’s unused Halogen

payment to start the Canberra Excursion payment.

Have a great week reading, investigating and learning new

things.

Kindest regards,

Shanyn Worley
