ABOUT THE NAVAJO TOURISM DEPARTMENTNavajo Council Resolution ACAP-55-86 originally created the Offi ce of Tourism within the Division of Resources in 1986. Navajo Tribal Council Resolution CO-50-87 transferred the Offi ce of Tourism to the Commission for Accelerating Navajo Development Opportunities (CANDO), pursuant to Resolution ACAU-196-87 and approved the Division of Economic Development’s revised Plan of Operation, that created the Navajo Tourism Department to participate in the development of tourism related projects. The Hotel Occupancy Tax (HOT) passed by Navajo Tribal Council resolution CJY-27-92, established the Navajo Nation Tourism Fund to be administered by the Navajo Tourism Department for tourism promotion, operational funds and for project development.

The Navajo Tourism Department (NTD) consists of fi ve (5) staff to address three (3) program areas: Leadership/Administration, Marketing/Public Relations, & Project Development.

What is the Navajo Tourism Conference?Created as a platform to educate the Navajo owned & operated businesses registered with the Navajo

Nation Business Regulatory Department in St. Michaels, Arizona. This conference will span over 2.5 days at the beautiful Navajo casino – Twin Arrows Casino Resort near Flagstaff, AZ. This event attracts over 300 people who are interested in various sectors of tourism and small business development

Annually we provide the opportunity for small and large businesses – whether they are private, corporate, tribal and on or off-reservation – to attend our event to educate, network, provide feedback, round-table discussions, and customer service training for their business.
