Big Brothers Big Sisters provides children facing adversity with strong and enduring, professionally supported one-on-one, long-lasting relationships that change their lives for the better, forever.

MISSION

Locally and nationally, we know that BBBS mentoring works in the short and long term:

SHORT TERM - Parents, teachers, and Big Brother/Sister mentors were surveyed in 2012 about the progress of their child or youth and found: • 98% increased in self-confidence • 87% improved in academics • 81% improved in their classroom behavior • 87% improved in their ability to make positive decisions • 84% strengthened relationships with peers, family and other adults • 93% increased in their ability to express their feelings LONG TERM – Harris Interactive surveyed adults who had a Big Brother or Big Sister as a youth and compared them to adults from similar demographics that didn’t have a mentor and found that our Little “Alumni” were: • More likely to have a college degree • More likely to make more money • Rated their own relationships with their spouse, their friends, and their own children at a higher rate • More likely to be involved as a volunteer or leader in their community

OTHER WAYS TO SUPPORT BIG BROTHERS BIG SISTERS:• Be a Big Brother or Big Sister mentor to an at-risk child, ages 6-14.• Sponsor a group activity for Big/Little Matches. You determine the number of people to be invited.• Sponsor a Big/Little Match - $1,000 for one year.• Donate sports, theater or other community tickets for Big/Little matches. • Serve on a BBBS special event committee.• Donate needed items. Visit the BBBS of Central MO website to view our wish list or call for our most current needs.

By supporting Big Brothers Big Sisters, you make central Missouri and our nation stronger.

We serve children who face adversity, those of single, low-income or incarcerated parents. One by one, we break the cycle. Your financial support allows us to provide careful screening and matching of volunteers with these children and the ongoing professional management needed to keep the mentoring relationships going strong as long as possible, we hope, until the child graduates high school. By funding community or school-based mentoring, you help us provide more volunteer mentors and the associated financial resources required to manage and support the volunteers and programs.

We partner with parents/guardians, volunteers and others in the community and hold ourselves accountable for each child in our program achieving:• Higher aspirations, greater confidence, and better relationships• Avoidance of risky behaviors• Educational success
