The regular monthly board meeting of the Barrington Area Branch of AAUW met on February 9, 1981 at the home of Gloria Morris. President, Mary Ellen Henehan, called the meeting to order at 8:10 p.m. 11 members present.

The Secretary read the minutes of the previous board meeting and they were approved as corrected.

Treasurer, Sarah Hudson, gave the Treasurer's report. The balance on hand was $489.24, with the travel fund of $247.00 included as part of that balance. A $60.00 profit from the previous International Tasters meeting was added to the travel fund. iL.5.00 earned by Mary Ellen Henehan as part of a market research survey wa&—a."'ned to the travel fund.

Sarah reported that the official membership count had been turned in to the National organization.

The Treasurer's Report was accepted.

President, Mary Ellen Henehan, reported that a member-to-member workshop would be held in Pontiac, Illinois on March 7. Interested persons should contact Mary Ellen. She also reported that BADC needs volunteers for four blood drives. Interested persons should contact Mary Ellen.

It was brought to the attention of the board that the Barrington Community Players activities could be a possible money maker for the Branch. It was suggested that it might be a possibility for our November meeting.

International Tasters Chairman, Joyce Anderson reported that there were 28 people at the Brunch. The next meeting, March 14, will be at the House of Honan. Cost of the outing will be $12.50 plus drinks per person.

Maureen Brady moved that the cost of the Tasters continue to be figured as it has in the past, with any additional funds going to the Travel Fund. The motion was seconded and passed.

Past President, Evie Richer reported that the rooms for the convention would be $75 per night.

Book Discussion Chairman, Phyllis Rainwater, passed around a booklet dealing with book discussion.

Daytime Group Chairman, Nan Pangborn, reported that the March 11 meeting of the group would be a luncheon at the Greenhouse with discussion focused on planning for the next year. The April meeting will be held on the 5th Wednesday of the month and will be concerned with hobbies.

Gloria Morris suggested that we use new members as co-hostesses to help incorporate them into active membership of the group.

Nan Pangborn, as Managing Resources Chairman, informed us of a conference to be held March 20 by the Illinois-Indiana Bi-State Commission. She also told us of the Chicago Branch AAUW spring energy film festival. Interested members should contact Nan for further details.

Mary Ellen brought to our attention the fact that March 15 to 21 is AAUW week. It was suggested that we might have a display at the library. She also listed the board meetings for the rest of the year: March - at Maureen Brady with Vickie—Maiben as hostess; April - at Phyllis Rainwater's with Sarah Hudson as hostess and May - Bobbie Svacha with Sandy Lynch as hostess.

February 16, 1981

The regular monthly meeting of the Barrington Area Branch AAUW was held at the home of Holly Anderson. President, Mary Ellen Henehan, called the meeting to order at 8:10 p.m.

Treasurer, Sarah Hudson, presented the Treasurer's Report. There is at present $489.24 in the treasury and another $60.00 from the International Tasters would be added to the convention fund of the budget.

President, Mary Ellen, reported on the workshop to be held in Pontiac, Illinois on March 7. She and Gloria Morris are planning on attending. Mary Ellen also spoke of the ISD Convention in Hammond, Indiana, in May.

It was announced that Mary Ellen and Keith Pierson would have a picture in the newspaper for the upcoming AAUW Week on March 15-21.

It was also announced that $16.70 had been made from the collecting of aluminum cans for re-processing.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:30 p.m.

March 9, 1981

The regular monthly board meeting of the Barrington Area Branch AAUW was held at the home of Maureen Brady. The meeting was called to order at 8:05 p.m. by President, Mary Ellen Henehan. Nine members were present.

The secretary read the minutes of the previous board meeting. The minutes were approved as corrected.

Mary Ellen presented the Treasurer's information for Treasurer, Sarah Hudson. She reported that the balance on hand was $546.34 with $308.23 as part of that balance reserved for the travel fund.

Gloria Morris moved that the $75.00 convention registration fee be paid for Past President Evie Richer from the travel fund. Phyllis Rainwater seconded the motion. Motion passed.

Mary Ellen reported that pictures publicizing the AAUW week will be published in the Barrington Courier and Barrington Banner, and that a proclamation was signed designating March 15-21 as AAUW week in Barrington.

Mary Ellen and Holly Anderson reported on their attendance at the workshop on March 7. Mary Ellen told of the Women's Equity Day to be held April 29 in Sprinfield. Holly commented that Illinois lost 10 percent of membership.

First Vice President, Gloria Morris, told of the program for the coming regular monthly meeting. Floyd Swink will speak. Happy Lowden will serve as hostess. It was suggested that we have a birthday cake for our April meeting as part of the celebration of the start of the Barrington Branch.

Reporting for Cultural Represen, Sandy Block, Mary Ellen mentioned the Chicago City Ballet which will be performing at the Barrington High School.

Education Representative, Maureen Brady, reported that a citizens committee was looking at the demographic study of the school boundaries.

Educational Foundations Chairman, Holly Anderson, reported that $52 was sent to EFP - $1.00 for each member, and that $441.05 remains in the EFP account.

Mary Ellen reported that Janet Gohl had agreed to be EFP Chairman for next year and had also agreed to have the July luncheon at her house.

The regular monthly meeting of the Barrington Area Branch AAUW was held on March 16, 1981 at the Barrington Area Library. President, Mary Ellen Henehan, called the meeting to order at 8:00 p.m.

Treasurer, Sarah Hudson, reported a balance on hand of $546.34.

Mary Ellen explained to visitors and prospective members the coming national convention in Boston and the travel fund developed for Barrington Branch representatives to the convention.

First Vice President, Gloria Morris, reported on programs for the upcoming meetings.

Mary Ellen told members of the Barrington Writers Workshop and also reported on nominations to the ISD board and the Equity Day Workshop to be held in Springfield. She informed members and guests of AAUW Week, March 15 through 21. The 100 year anniversary of AAUW coincides with the 9 year anniversary of the Barrington Area Branch.

Book Discussion Chairman, Phyllis Rainwater, announded the March selection and meeting to be held March 31.

International Tasters Chairman, Joyce Anderson, reported on the Chinese dinner held the previous Saturday evening. She also said that the next meeting of the Tasters has not been scheduled.

Members were informed that aluminum cans would be collected at the April meeting to be held at the Library.

April 13, 1981

The regular monthly board meeting of the Barrington Area

Branch AAUW was held on April 13, 1981 at the home of Phyllis

Rainwater. President, Mary Ellen Henehan, opened the

meeting at 8:20 p.m. Eleven board members were present.

The secretary read the minutes of the previous board meeting

and they were approved as read.

Treasurer, Sarah Hudson, gave the Treasurer's report. The

balance on hand is $392.34. Sarah also reported that $5.00

was made at the previous International Tasters meeting. She

also reported that she will begin to collect dues for the

coming year at the Mav luncheon.

First Vice President, Gloria Morris, reported that $60 to $70

had been spent on this year's programs. She also reported that

a history of AAP will be nresented at the May luncheon,and

that Maureen will bring a "birthday" cake for the meeting.

Second Vice President, Bobbie Svacha, reported that a member-

ship table will be set up at the May meeting. She also read

the names of three new members to the Branch.

President, Mary Ellen Henehan, told of a Talent Bank which would

be for government use in filling government positions. She

reported that the government survey group at the Barrington High

School had written requesting a donation. It was suggested that

the group might be a possible program for next year. The

possibility of AAUW sharing a booth with the League of Women

Voters at the Barrington High School Spring Festival on May 2fi was also discussed.

which is pending and also Bill 4BESEA which would cut money

The possibility of using a book sale as a fund raiser by the

branch was discussed.

It was decided by board members that the July luncheon would

be held on July 15.

The -regular monthly meeting of the Barrington Area Branch AAUW was called to order on April 20, 1981 by President, Mary Ellen Henehan.

In the absence of Nominating Committee Chairman, Nan Pangborn, Mary Ellen presented the slate of officers to be elected. The slate was elec ted as presented.

Mary Ellen reported on the ISD convention to be held May 16-17.

It was announced that a joint board meeting would be held at Bobbie Svacha's house in May.

Aluminum cans were collected by Mary Ellen for Holly Anderson.

Members were reminded of the May luncheon meeting at Plentywood Farms.

Resume forms prepared by Bobbie Svacha were handed out. They will be used by government agencies for resource people.

Mr. Bruebaker of Perkins and Will was the speaker of the evening.

The regular monthly board meeting of the Barrington Area Branch of A.A.U.W. was held May 11, 1981 at the home of Bobbie Svacha. The meeting was called to order at 8:15 p.m. by President-Elect Gloria.

The secretary read the minutes of the previous board meeting and they were approved as corrected.

Treasurer, Sarah Hudson, reported a balance of #354.84, with the majority of the money set aside for the travel fund.

Gloria Morris spoke of the coming luncheon and a carpool was organized. She also reported that both she and Mary Ellen Henehan would attend the Sunday session of the state convention and brought to the attention of the board a workshop which would be held at McHenry College dealing with procedures in obtaining grants.

Gloria read a letter from the Barrington Historical Society regarding a program dealing with Christmas trees having a special theme. Sale of the trees would provide 60% to the contributing club and 40% to the historical society. Joyce Anderson commented that due to the difficulty in moving a decorated tree, a miniature tree would be appropriate. Dee Gillilan moved that the branch contribute a decorated tree for the Historical Society program. The motion was seconded, and passed.

Gloria read a letter requesting help for ERA. Bobbie Svacha moved that an envelope be passed at the luncheon so that interested members could contribute if they desired. The motion was seconded and passed.

Education Representative, Maureen Brady, reported on a complete list of the budget cuts and the effects on school programs.

Cultural Interest Representative, Sandy Block, spoke of the Search for Alexander exhibit at the Art Institute.

Newsletter Editor, Mary Kaletta, reminded board members that the deadline for the next newsletter would be June 26.

May 16, 1981

The regular monthly meeting of the Barrington Area Branch of AAUW was called to order at 12:35 pm by President Mary Ellen Henehan. The meeting was held at Plentywood Farm Restaurant. A motion to disp ense with reading of the minutes was made by Joyce Anderson. The motion was seconded and approved.

Treasurer Sarah Hudson reported that the balance on hand is $384.54. She is accepting dues for next year. The amount is $20.

Mary Ellen announced that the Salad Luncheon will be held July 15 at the home of Jan Gohl. The next board meeting will be June 8 at Mary Ellen's home. The upcoming newsletter deadline is June 26.

Our branch will participate in a Christmas Tree project sponsored by the Barrington Historical Society.

A seminar to train women in the skills of grant proposal writing will be held May 20 at McHenry County College. This workshop is sponsored by the Crystal Lake Branch of AAUV and McHenry County College. It will be repeated on June 3.

Sandy Block reminded members of the "Search for Alexander" exhibit at the Art Institute now thru Sept. 16. Thursdays are free admission and should be avoided if possible because of large crowds,

June 8, 1981

The regular monthly board meeting of the Barrington Area Branch of AAUW was called to order at 8:15pm by President, Mary Ellen Henehan. The meeting was held at Mary Ellen's home. She introduced 3 new board members - Jan Gohl, Donna Bahadar and Happy Lowden.

A motion to dispense with reading of the minutes was made by Dee Gillilan, The motion was seconded and approved.

Members of the Illinois State Division are available to present a personalized workshop for board members. Holly Anderson will schedule this training session for our October board meeting. A potluck supper will be planned for that evening.

Treasurer sarah Hudson reported a balance on hand of $338.88. Bobbie Svacha will serve as substitute treasurer at the Salad Luncheon to collect dues.

Contact Mary Kaletta by June 27 with information for the newsletter.

Bobbie Svacha discussed last minute details for the Salad Luncheon that will be held at Jan Gohl's home July 15 at 12:00.

Mary Ellen Henehan and Gloria Morris briefly discussed their participation in the recent ISD convention.

At the upcoming Association convention Evie Richer and. Mary Ellen will vote for Association President and 1st Vice President. The board agreed that they should vote for the person they see as the best candidate for that position. It is possible that the issue of including men in AAUW will come to a vote at the convention. A motion was made by Gloria Morris and seconded that delegates from our branch should vote in favor of admitting men to membership in AAUW. The motion passed.

Happy Lowden will submit articles on the salad luncheon and the convention to the Banner and to the Courier.

Jan Gohl, Educational Foundations chairman, presented several fund raising ideas for the boards consideration. It was decided that our branch will organize a dessert sale in conjunction with the September 12 Barrington Area Library Book Sale. The committee for this project will be Jan Gohl, Holly Anderson and Gloria Morris.

It was decided that proceeds from this and other fund raising projects organized during the year will be allocated at the discretion of the board between programs, educational foundations and the travel fund.

The regular monthly board meeting of the Barrington Area Branch AAUW was held on September 14, 1981 at the home of Mari Harrer. The meeting was called to order at 8:10 p.m. by President, Mary Ellen Henehan. Twelve board members were present.

The secretary read the minutes of the two previous board meetings and they were approved as read.

Treasurer, Kay Devlin, reported that there was a balance of $244.05 at the end of August. She also reported that $149.45 was received from the AAUW bake sale at the library.

Second Vice President, Bobby Svacha, moved that the approximately $150 from the bake sale be put into the program fund. The motion was seconded and passed.

Bobbie also reported that we had 42 members as of September 14.

President, Mary Ellen Henehan, reminded us that the October meeting would be a training session with members of the State Division. It would be preceded by a pot-luck dinner at 6:30 p.m.

Mary Ellen mentioned the ISD fall conference at the University of Illinois on October 10. She also informed us of the appointment of Maureen Brady to the ISD Topic Committee on Technology.

The board was notified of the meeting on September Council of AAUW Branches. Bobbie commented that a us from belonging.

EFP Chairman, Jan Gohl, thanked the board for help sale. Jan also reported that the Bost of making a would be prohibitive. Bobbie moved that we forget raiser. It was seconded and passed.

Board members discussed the possibility of theater parties at Cutting Hall to see Best of Broadway productions as a fund raiser. Members agreed it is a good idea and Happy Lowden and Judy Thomas will handle arrangements for a party on November 7 to see May Fair Lady.

President Elect, Gloria Morris, told of the possibility of obtaining movies for Branch use through McHenry College.

Addendum to board meeting:

Preceding the regular branch meeting on September 28, Treasurer Kay Devlin, presented the proposed budget for 1981-82. It was moved, seconded and passed that the budget be accepted.

The regular monthly meeting of the Barrington Area Branch AAUW was held September 28, 1981 at the Barrington Area Library. President, Mary Ellen Henehan, called the meeting to order at 8:05 p.m.

Bobbie Svacha suggested that the guests introduce themselves and Mary Ellen welcomed all guests and new members of the branch.

The secretary read the minutes of the previous meeting and they were approved as read.

Mary Ellen explained the Christmas tree project mentioned in the minutes and told that the board had deleted the idea as a fund raiser because of its expense. She also reported on the bake sale held in conjunction with the Friends of the Library book sale and thanked Jan Gohl and Holly Anderson for their efforts. She reported that the $150 made from the bake sale would go into the program fund.

Treasurer, Kay Devlin, read the Treasurer's Report and presented the budget for the coming year. Copies of the budget were circulated. It was moved, seconded and passed that we adopt the budget.

Maureen Brady asked members to help complete a survey dealing with technology.

Cultural Interests Representative, Judy Thomas, reported that a theater party on November 7 to see May Fair Lady would be a fund raiser with dessert and coffee to be served after the theater. She also reminded members of the bus trip sponsored by the Methodist Church to see The Dinner Party.

The regular monthly board meeting of the Barrington Area Branch AAUW was held on October 12, 1981 at the home of Holly Anderson.

After a discussion by board members, it was decided that the special wine and cheese party at the November meeting would be an extended version of the regular monthly meeting. Sarah Hudson will head an expanded hostess committee and will be responsible for obtaining wine and appetisers to be supplied by board members. Branch members will pay $5.00 and guests will be charged $2.00. Profits realized from the admission fees will be put into the general fund with disposition to be determined later.

Mary Ellen reported that $52.00 was realized from the previous International Tasters. Board members decided after discussion that a fee of $7.50 - or more if necessary - would be charged for International Tasters, with an option open for a lesser charge for Brunch meetings. All profits realized will be added to the travel fund for convention.

Maureen reported on the ISD meeting in Champaign and upcoming conferences at Judson College, Kankakee College and the Hinsdale AAUW meeting.

Mary Ellen reminded members of the November and December meetings of the daytime group.

Cultural Interests Representative, Judy Thomas, reported on arrangements for the threater party and the trip to see The Dinner Party.

Program Chairman, Holly Anderson, suggested three possible locations for the January luncheon - Tomorrow's Monday, Tuxedo Junction and the Willows. The Board agreed to go to the Willows.

Maureen Brady reported on the results of a survey taken at the last meeting which indicated a desire for study groups. She suggested they be held on a non-structured basis.

Holly reported on information she obtained from a computer conference in California. She pointed out that Barrington could become Computer Town - to help people become computer comfortable. She also suggested that a worthwhile goal would be to have a computer in every classroom. Maureen pointed out that Barrington has facilities in the schools and that the pre-packaged programs would not be sesirable for children after the 6th grade and the main-frame facilities available now were judged most useful by the school district.
