Textual Analysis of our creation of ‘You Found Me’ by ‘The Fray’

Page 2: Textual anaysis

This is the first shot of our music video and its an establishing shot which shows the location of London Liverpool street where the majority of our music video is filmed. This shot is full of ordinary people living their ordinary lives which tells us that this music video may be focused on everyday people and how they live.

This shot is a close up and this is where we start to learn about the main character. This tells the audience that the main character has know recants calls but the fact that she is checking this shows us that she is expecting someone to contact her. By showing the audience that know one has contacted her tells us that she's lonely and lost.

This close up shot is an important shot as it links in with the lyrics of the song which states ‘Lost and insecure’ and here is an image of a young women who is fidgeting with her necklace which indicates that she is insecure. This image also shows the young women holding a religious cross necklace which is the beginning of our underlining religious message that is portrayed throughout each chorus.

This is a mid-shot of the main character walking the streets of London with a blurred image of the a crowed of people. This shot links in with the lyrics which says ‘ surrounded surrounded’ this suggests to the audience that the main character is lost and lonely in her life and all she wants is to be surrounded by friends and family.

This shot is a mid-shot which shows a women checking the time at a coffee shop this shot also links in with the lyrics of the song as it says ‘why’d you have to wait where were you where were you’. This shows an ordinary person waiting for someone who clearly isn't going to turn up this links in with the main character and the underlining storylines that sometimes we need God and he isn't there for us or just not in the way that we think.

This shot is a mid-shot and shows the main character on a tube listening to her music however this is the part in the music video where the sound goes from being non-diegetic to diegetic sound as not only the audience can hear the music the character can hear it to. This shot is very post-modern as it brings the music video and the viewers watching it together as one as their both hearing the same thing.

This mid-shot of a road sign is one images of 6 images in a mini montage that is near the end of our music video. This shot is telling the audience that God is giving a sign to the main character and also links in with the post-modern theory of simulacra and simulation.

This is the second last shot in our music video and it’s a close up shot. This shot reveals the main characters face to the audience which until this moment has been hidden throughout the music video to indicate that she is lost but also to add a sense of mystery to the music video. The fact that her face is reviled tells the audience that she is not lost anymore and that she has either found God or god has helped her find the person she was lost with out this is the ambiguous message that the music video portrays.

This shot is a mid-shot and is the last shot of our music video. It consists of a black bird that then flies away which indicates that it is now free. The meaning behind this shot is that the crow was used a metaphor to symbolise the main character finding hope in herself and God at the end of the music video as throughout it she was ‘lost and insecure’. Therefore its an image where the audience can relate the main character to the bird as it symbolises her as the bird who is now free.
